I wrote an academic research paper a couple of years ago (for my Master's degree) on Art Deco architecture, especially so the designs of Joseph Bell DeRemer and the architectural dream team of Charles Buechner & Henry Orth. Those talented architects did an abundance of architectural work in North Dakota and Minnesota, most of which is still standing and still in use. The Chrysler Building in Manhattan is a perfect example of the beauty and style of the Art Deco era. This video was a delight to me, a nerdy history and architecture fan. Thanks!

Art Deco, like Expressionist Art in film and painting, was a very modernist departure from pre-World War I schools of design, as there seemed a strong desire to leave a traditional 'past' behind, and look to the future. I think they're the answer to the Bauhaus style, which left a sense of 'delight' absent, but which Deco embraced. The Chrysler building is loved by people who have never been to NYC. Thanks for the tour, and for the terrific breakdown of the elements that define this wonderful building. :)

Chrysler bldg. is my favorite in NY. I had the pleasure of going to School for several months in that building. It was the only time I was excited to go to school, walking up to and into that building every day was magical. Just after that, I got a job just 3 blocks away on Lexington Ave. Walked out of Historic and just as beautiful Grand Central, to view the Chrysler Building everyday, was inspiring and at lunch, walking past the Waldorf Astoria.

It is definately one of my favoutire buildings. To me the Empire State Building as a whole not nearly as pleasing - although the decoration of the Empire State Building especially around the entrance and lobby is gorgeous.
