Where your Dad is at 8:40, walking toward Double Arch, I stopped one morning last August as the sun was coming up and saw something I never saw before. If you stand where he is and look to the right to the rocks farther back, there is a small arch you can only see when the sun is coming up because it shines right through. When the sun isn't there, it just looks like solid rock.

Love your channel. Have to disagree about the Park Ave hike, It’s one of my favorite. Here’s the trick, go to the first view point, take it all in, then drive around to the bottom of the trail and begin your hike from there. It’s flat and easy, and the scale of how high the walls are is breathtaking. Only walk half of it or until it begins to elevate then turn back. Also, it is better at a different time of day when both side are lit, and, kids can run around down there because it’s so wide and sandy.

@kcreeves199 Жыл бұрын
Having gone there many times, here's my recommendations. First, not a recommendation but a important restriction. Climbing on the arches is not allowed. OK now that I've said that, try to do 2 or more days if you can. For 1 day when the permits are in effect, try to get one as early as possible. For a single day, skip the visitors center and all of the overlooks on the way in. Hit the three main areas 1st, as these will get crowded quickly, probably devils garden, then windows, then delicate arch. After you get your fill of these three areas, then hit the lookouts and lesser areas, as there is a better chance of parking than in the main areas. I agree with one other commenter on park avenue, start at the bottom, walk up the trail till you get to the big climb at the end, then go back to the bottom parking lot. The biggest problem with this is that the bottom parking lot is very small. Take time at overlooks or pull-outs and look around. Look for smaller details, shapes and textures in the rocks, distant views. Finally, be courteous and patient with other visitors in the park, it will make your visit more enjoyable. One other thing I've done is to go into the park at night when there is a full moon. Everything takes on a very different, eerie vibe, and there are very few people there.

I did Arch's many years ago with my friend Harry and we did just about all the hikes except Fiery Furnace. I did not know about that one until later after leaving the park. We also did the Delicate Arch at the end and it's quite a hike. I remember how that bowl rolls downward so you have to be very careful there. If I get back that way, I'll do the Fiery Furnace Trail! Also, I remember we were hiking on a trail that was way up in the air on rocks and it was hot. We could hear an ambulance in the distance so I wouldn't be surprised if the heat got to someone! You have to be careful there and have plenty of liquids!

Filming for commercial purposes like movies is not allowed inside the parks...however...that doesn't mean the parks don't appear in any films. The windows area was featured in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Spielberg didn't have a permit, and was cited $600 for the shoot. When asked later about it...he said he would have paid $6000 for a permit.
@mikegrindstaff2 жыл бұрын
Most of the desert here is BLM land who will allow film shoots with a proper permits. The most commonly used land for filming in Moab is Thelma and Louise point near Dead Horse Point state park...many films were made there...including where they drove the car off the cliff into the "Grand Canyon"...where you obviously can't drive cars.

I took a hike through the Fiery Furnace twice, with a guide from the Moab Adventure Center. It was awesome but very hard, lots of climbing and scrambling, and the reason you need a permit is that it is very easy to get lost back in there. On one of my tours, we found a guy who had gotten totally lost and couldn't find his way out - he had no permit. Live and learn, I guess.
