Arsenio could have lasted 30 years had he been less stumped and nervous around some of his white guests. With black guests, he flowed well and reacted fast with questions and comments, but some of his white guests left him tongue twisted and hesitant at times. It's unfortunate, because Arsenio was the most charming, relaxed and comfortable guy compared to any late night host. If not for this one flaw, they would have kept in on, and he'd be a gem to watch for decades.

"Chicken Soup" was cancelled after eight episodes. It aired after Roseanne but did not hold on to enough of the audience. Also, Mason turned lots of people off by making controversial remarks during the NYC mayoral race that fall. However, in his day, Mason was a superb stand-up comedian.

So Mason says I would never "pick -on" or criticize a performer (10:48) because that's how they make their living, then a few seconds later (11:15) he mocks Sinatra. Yes, you're right, there is a very dark - vindictive - side of Mason.
