The last couple of minutes were much needed banter after such insightful presentation.

why does this suddenly make me look forward to being critiqued? the approach of taming the animal brain is just so brilliant and so human! I'm sure this also applies to online critique because it's not "life hacks" kind of tips but one that teaches how humans function. awesome stuff!

Perhaps you feel empowered and changed mindset? That is the intention of the videos and it does change the dynamics and outlook of those sessions.

I would pay cash money to see a video of a zoom call with you two and Eric at 30x40. I don't even care what you talk about, I just want to see you guys talk about architecture together.

Always excellent advice. You almost said it at the end there but if the panellists are talking about your project it usually means there is something there! No talking is a bad sign I would say... there are also certain 'stances' you can physically do to put yourself in a good mindset. For example, standing with a wide stance and hands on hips for 30 seconds can boost confidence (I usually do this in private in the bathroom in the lead up to presenting hahaha)

Great content indeed, I’m also looking forward to my future presentations. You pointed out a trick I’ve been using since my first year. I would nod and agree with the studio master even though I don’t. During the crit I pick one who will be interested in my proposal and ensure that after the crit i get a one on one plenary session. It has really proved to be very effective and now with more tips you’ve shared I’m positive I’ll be getting to benefit more from the crits. Keep up the good work 👏🏻

Don’t just nod and agree. Ask for clarification too

when architecture school is draining you of your life force and you search up coping mechanisms :,) i love the vibe you both have, if you critiqued my projects and outright told me they were garbage i would be in awe coz i know you'd do it the right way

okay, I have my midterm jury next week, I'm gonna try the tips and share the results (wish me luck) + one of my tip is that I think of them as my mother so I know that they are not here to hurt me and will listen and say the things that best for me, Freud would love it so bad he's dead

I just had an interim review on Friday. It went pretty well but there was one moment I thought was funny. The first one seems to happen a lot, when two jury members end up arguing with each other. We had 5 minutes to present with 15 minutes of questions/critique, and during one presentation they spent probably 10 if not more of those minutes debating whether or not a more minimalist approach to the facade was warranted. They were being respectful to each other, so it was more funny than anything. But the next project after, the guy saying it should have been more minimal before was telling them that it probably needed to be punched up a bit. And the other guy who he was arguing with was like "so you're saying it should be more palatial," and the first guy was like "yeah exactly!!" Not realizing it was a dig based on the previous conversation. It was hilarious.

Surviving criticism is something many of the Gen Y can’t handle very well at all. Not like us Gen X’s. Whether you’re an architect, illustrator, Graphic Designer- or in any creative field for that matter. Building a carapace to handle the world and the ‘evils’ that social media throws onto them is necessary to lead a fulfilling life and survive the often intangible things and concepts that are thrown at them 24/7. Mind you the person giving the criticism should be constructive more than destructive and one hopes that that comes in any professional line of work.
@Archimarathon3 жыл бұрын
But it’s also the mindset of what is critique and how to approach them. That is what is lacking
