there are a bunch of other covers of this song out there, but I wanted to cover it for a reason: back in 2015 I said, that I would never be so good at guitar to actually play this song. 4 years and a lot of practice later this is my prove that you can always grow in your abilities if you believe in yourself!

I remember you told me long ago that Architects is really hard to play and now you did it damn nice😍 Question about guitar: -Is it new? -How it feels to play 7string? -Is it worth having one for bands like Architects/Slipknot?
@tri92j5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I remember it too ^^ So, the 7 string isn't that new. I got it since 2014, but I don't use it as regulary for covers as my other guitars. I heard different opinions about switching from 6 to 7 strings. Some people have problems with it while others don't. For me it was pretty easy, because I just see it as a low tuned 6 string, but I think that's because I'm more a rhythm guitarist. If you're more focused on leads and trying to play scales and modes on a 7 string, it can be a litle bit confusing at first. But thats something you can learn with some time. The only thing that was a bit hard for me at the beginnnig was the bigger necksize of the guitar, which forces you to play with more strength and a wider position of the hand. Even though you get used to the necksize, it's still much more tiring playing on a 7 string for your left hand. At least that's how I experience it. The last question isn't that simple to answer. These days you have plenty of other options to tune low without using an 7 or 8 string. Here you have to weigh your preferrences and budget. You can use bigger string gauges (this might be the cheapest option) or buy a baritone or fanfret guitar (these are a little bit more expensive, but maintain the 6 string feeling). A 7 string is just the most simple way to access low tunes. For example the guys from Architects use 6 string guitars which have just a much bigger E string gauge to tune down to G# or F#. Same with Slipknot, but as they playing in drop B or A, they have the whole string set changed to bigger gauges. To sum it up I would say that it's maybe not the cheapest option, but if you're not exclusively play in low tunings and only have one guitar, buying a 7 string makes more sense than changing the set up of your 6 string for low tunings. Because once you set it up you have to do a new set up to go back to higher tunings. By buying a 7 string you would have your 6 string guitar that covers the tunings from E standard to drop C and the 7 string that does the work from B to drop G. Don't be afraid of that +1 string. It's not such a big deal, if you're just want to play some Slipknot or Architects (to play Architects on a 7 string you have to tune a little bit weird, but it still works). Like I said, for me the 7 string is basiclly just an extended 6 string with an extra high e string which I barely use. I can't remember one time where I actually needed all the 7 strings on a cover or own song. Mabye try to visit a local musicstore in your town and try out a 7 string. And if you feel too unsecure with it you can still consider to buy a baritone guitar instead. Hope that I could help you :)

@@EmilPiano oh and one option for low tunings, which I forgot to mention is the "drop" guitar pedal by digitech. This is a quite cheap option if you're interested in different tunings (from half step down to a whole octave), but want to stay in standard tuning with you guitar. Here's a cool demo video of it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYfXh4mPZ9x8Z68

Awesome cover!! How did you tune your 7 string guitar for this song? I checked the link and it was for a 6 string guitar
@tri92j5 жыл бұрын
thank you! I dropped the lowest string to a G# and then tuned all the other strings up 2 halfsteps. so the E string became the F# (wich is normally on the A string) and so on... you can play this song in drop G# too, but then you got the 6th string with no purpose in your way and that makes it a little bit more difficult to play. so I decided to just tune them all up :D
