As a Architects fan since 2012... Gone with the wind is the song I always tear up for, no matter what kind of mood I have. When they played the song first time live without Tom ... man.... that video is the most heartbreaking thing in the history of metalcore.
@Antichupius Жыл бұрын
“Gone with the wind” and “Memento Mori” are even more tear jerkers, they were written by Tom before he died, fully knowing he’d die soon. If you want some of their more “brutal” older sound, I’d recommend “Broken Cross”. Also, to give more meaning about “Seeing Red”, another big reason for that song to exist that is addressed in the lyrics, were comments the band received like “Tom would be ashamed of your new music” or “I wish you were depressed again so you could write heavy music again”, which makes it even more heartbreaking.

The amount of pure emotion in Sam's voice in Gone With The Wind is second to none. Hands down Architect's best song in their entire catalog

Dude, you are amazing! Thanks for checking it out as we requested, your input is always very insightful and genuine, I've never seen anyone else develop such a strong emotional connection to a song they just heard, let alone from a band who they only listened to once. As a suggestion for your next reaction, I think 'Gone With the Wind' would be a great choice. It's the last record that Tom was involved in, and I believe you would bring a unique perspective to it. Thank you so much for the effort you put into these videos, they make our day better.

The way you spoke about change and evolving into something bigger it's amazing, so well explained. I love Architects, wasn't fan of their new stuff but the way you explained made so much sense... because that's what real artists do, they follow their passion and that's great! A Match Made In Heaven and When We Were Young are a must!

Memento Mori. That song is POWERFUL. I had heard of Architects prior to All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us but that album was my intro to the band. Shortly after, Tom passed away. I heard that song, put myself mentally in his shoes as he went through his suffering with a mixture of hope and doom in my head. I literally crumbled. It’s as vivid today as it was that day. That song means so much to me and transformed me. You will never know how much you love and are loved until you realize it ends and for some, that end comes too soon. RIP to Tom but I will ALWAYS be a fan of Architects. They could put out a fucking Polka album and I’d support them. They deserve that for keeping the band going in Tom’s honor…and for the fans.

For a little more info- the lyrics of this, and the new songs, are written by drummer Dan Searle. The guitarist and song writer that passed was his twin brother Tom. A lot of Dan's lyrics refernce some of his brothers lyrics from older albums

This was the last song Tom was working on before he died. The band finished it after his death. Architects have changed their sound so many times over their current 10 album career, ranging from deathcore (Nightmares, Hollow Crown), to death/mathcore (Ruin), to post-hardcore (The Here And Now), to metalcore (Daybreaker, Lost Forever/Lost Together, AOGHA) to modern metal (Holy Hell), to modern hard rock (For Those That Wish To Exist, Classic Symptoms Of A Broken Spirit). So I don't understand the people that complain. As a fan of the band since 2006 when the band jumped from the brutal Hollow Crown to post-hardcore The Here And Now was much more of a dramatic musical change (believe me). And that seemed to really hurt the band back in 2011. So I feel that Architects are frustrated at reliving a similar backlash 12 years later. And this backlash is all coming mainly from new 'fans' that only came to the band at 2014's Lost Forever that have never listened to the 5 completely different albums prior! Definitely go back and check out Early Grave and Follow The Water from Hollow Crown.

You aren't the only one tearing up, "Doomsday" and "Gone with the Wind" get me every time. When you feel ready, check out the mini doc "Holy Hell" about how they put together the album "Holy Hell" and first show at Ally Pally. I needed tissues through it as have many who watched it. Architects is an incredible band and fantastic live. They do not deserve the hate they have received from some "fans". I think I would have been more surprised if they hadn't changed after Tom's passing. Yeah, it's different but it's good and I still love them. They still put everything into their music. They are going on tour in NA in 2024. Can't wait to see them again in May.

Great reaction man. Such a heavy hitting song given the context. Also one of the most iconic riffs in metalcore history. Shit has been ripped off so many times since that it always surprises me that the song is only just over 6 years old. If you want to really dig into the emotional side of Architects I’d strongly recommend Gone With The Wind, it deals with similar subject matter to this but was fully written and performed by Tom prior to his passing. The studio version is incredible but their live version at Alexandra Palace is out of this world and is, in my opinion, the best live performance I’ve ever seen. I still get goosebumps thinking about that night. If you’re looking on the flip side for more classic angry Architects I’d suggest giving Gravedigger a shot. It’s my favourite song by them off my favourite album by them. And finally if you’re looking for the stuff they released that got them so much unwarranted hate I’d recommend A New Moral Low Ground from their most recent album. My favourite from that record.

"What if I completely forget? What if I never accept? 'Cause when you fade away It's like a brand-new doomsday" goddamn that line kills me. The idea of the memory of someone slowing disappearing...the way you remember their face, their smile, all of it. God that breaks my heart. That really would feel like a brand new Doomsday.

Love to see reactors action have a reaction to music! Great review. For some more context, Tom was their guitarist and founding member with his twin brother, Dan on drums. Dan is the one you see throughout the video and ends up ascending towards the heavens in the end. Tom did do some work on this album (Holy Hell) before passing. This song and the album is generally well regarded. It's the album after (For Those That Wish to Exist) that they really started to change their sound with industrial sounding songs like Animals, which is a well regarded song, too. But this is where the toxic fanbase started to rumble and get nasty. Things really boiled over with their last album, the classic symptoms of a broken spirit. They're not as heavy. There's more cleans than screams. They're trying different sounds. That's really when things got gross with certain "fans"... death threats, using Tom as a weapon against them. Stuff like that. For me, I love old Architects. I love recent Architects. I love new Architects. I love sassy "fuck you" Architects.

Beautiful reaction. Ur a real one my dude. I'm now subscribed. I really enjoyed ur opinion on artists evolving & growing. Not only as artists but they're evolving & changing as people too. My go-to analogy is Metallica. Legendary yes, but the hard reality is they're 60 now. But some folks complain that they changed their sound. It's not the same as before. If they still sounded now like they did in they're 20's it wouldn't work. They're not the same people, period.

So Architects are a band I got into VERY early on, when they released their Nightmares EP just after Sam first joined the band, I think around 2006/early 2007. So before their first album, Hollow Crown. They're from Southampton in the UK, I'm from Northampton in the UK just a little further up the country and they blew up around here fast. I saw them at all my local gig places, venues with 100 people or less in the crowd, then onto the bigger venues in the main cities around here and at all the music festivals. Met them a handful of times while they were touring with other local bands like Bury Tomorrow and Bleed From Within. Hollow Crown is a top 5 all time album for me, and I had an insanely deep obsession with this band, rivalled only by my obsession for Avenged Sevenfold a few years before Architects came around. Tom's death was the only other musician death that hit me nearly as hard as The Rev. I still can't listen to this song properly without getting choked up, it's so heavy and powerful but so emotional and Sam's screams convey his pain so well.
@Excellerator4209 ай бұрын
Tom passed around the same time I lost a good friend. This band saved me for my family watching their journey and their style change is because Sam said he can't keep singing about how fucked the world is every night. Its just too much weight on the brain because their music was heavily political and environmental. Fans that have been attacking them are disgusting because these guys have had a public musical journey growing from tragedy and evolving as human beings.

I really appreciated and enjoyed your reaction - as usual. One thing's for certain about this song they f*cking nailed the raw emotion and range of feelings capturing loss and grief. This was the first song I heard by them (I was extremely late to the party) but better late than never I guess. Like sharks bands need to keep moving forwards otherwise it is sterility and death. The core of Architects’ sound still turns up on the last two albums it is just not a continuum throughout. They are experimenting, blending in more cleans and still delivering great riffs and melodies in a metal context. They dont deserve shit for it just more praise. The early albums are still there when you want them and will never diminish so why not embrace the new instead of kicking against it. RIP Tom but life goes on
