Likewise, at least in Italy, the high ground was for the poor and the valleys were for the rich, so that too has been reversed.

Same here in America. I think it comes as hearing and insulation become more effective and cheaper.

Same in ancient Rome. In the poor areas, the poorest were in the top floor of some rickity building with 3 or more floors.

We had horses on streets until 120 years ago. There were uncontrolled horse manures all over the road. I wonder would that make mixing human manure very stand out?

This also somewhat true for Rio de Janeiro, since the favelas are built high on the hills and the condos are built lower, make the poor look down on the rich.

No they were not dumping things out of the window. It was illegal in cities since ancient times and penalties were high. Read about ancient roman actio de effusis vel deiectis.

Are you sure it was just a rumor. Juvenal talks about it happening in Rome in antiquity but i’m not sure if it was or wasn’t done in modern Times

@keegster3217 well, of course big towns like medieval London or Paris we're never really hygienic. But they're not so today as well. But the icon with the family getting up in the morning just dumping their fecal contents out on the street? C'mon man, that didn't happen. Firstly our waste was very precious at that time. Think of it: people would go and collect them for manure on the fields. And secondly, could you really imagine that people were so different back then? We always had some eagerness for staying clean and hygienic. And the city's majors they definitely wouldn't want their residents to just yeet our waste on the road

The Themes was full of crap for centuries, it smelled to high heaven, especially after a bad flood, the street would have crap all over them, the smell was supposed to be unreal. I hate that I know that.

Also the land adjacent to beautiful sandy beaches was the cheapest because it was affected by the salt spray. It would be inherited usually by the second or third son whilst the first son would get good agricultural land inland. Now the tables have to totally turned. Agricultural land is comparatively worthless compared to land on beautiful beaches

Factually incorrect. I dunno who told you this. The help lived downstairs. Hence the phrase “upstairs, downstairs”.

Tradesman and shopkeepers aren't middle class in europe. In Europe there's working class. The rich are middle class. The upper class are lords, royalty etc

Lol, you have your information from a jane austin book?😂😂😂 Europe has almost no nobels/royals left, and they are not considered elite since they rarely hold any real power. The middle class is people with start-ups and / or high degeee jobs
