Did anyone ever doubt that? The New Deal did a great job of mitigating the damage during the 1930s that was brought on by the excesses of capitalism but it took a long time for the correction to take place. The war, when added to higher taxes and regulation of the financial industry, eventually made a historic move of enough of the nation's wealth to working people to create some stability. By 1970 the worm started to turn, financiers gradually reclaimed the bulk of wealth and we again approach potential economic disaster.

@@jjhpor Nonsense. The "New Deal" kept the economy in the doldrums FAR longer than any "excesses of capitalism" would ever have done. It's a fact that the "New Deal" policies actually pushed the economy back into a deep dive in the late 30s, no "excessive capitalism" required!
