Just wanted to put this here as my respect for Stephen Hillenburg and everybody who worked on those first seasons of this show. I was born in the early 2000s and my childhood was parents who didnt get along (later to be divorced) and I as a kid wasnt watched over and did things by myself. My mother although bought me dvds very often of cartoons that I normally watched past midnight because I never had parents that put me to sleep. Literally all my happiness as kid came from this show and I remember I could feel the connection without knowing these passionate people who made it. I dont have connections with either of my parents anymore because items like drugs, sex, etc. were more important to them, but in a way this show raised me and looking back for a tv show it didnt do that bad a job doing so.

Having been born around the time SpongeBob became a hit, and growing up with the show, this documentary was awesome to see. And even as a kid I always thought SpongeBob and Rocko's Modern Life had this strange connection, now I know why

It pains me to see what spongebob is now compared to what it used to be.

I'm far too distant toward checking out The Patrick Show, just from the commercials you can tell it's mindless, sugar candy-driven with no creativity or thought whatsoever.

every single frame in the early seasons conveys something new. they had legitimate animation geniuses working on this show

Shout out to all the mid-late 20 somethings that grew up with this show and still quote it daily! Thank you for the memories Stephen! :)

Stephen literally said to himself: "eh, I don't really have an idea for a show." And then came up with one of the biggest cartoons ever created on television. Imagine if he changed his mind...

I’m so used to these voices for these characters it felt like the characters were the voice actors and the cast were the cartoons

I had the opportunity to have an unofficial, private tour of the animation studios and meet a lot of directors and animators (I've had friends who've worked there). The working environment there is like nothing I've ever seen; everyone is goofy and, at first you think that they don't get anything done because I saw more people goofing off than working, but they all seem like the best of friends and being somewhere that lets them be happy and free, lets them be passionate about their work, which is why they actually get stuff done and get it done well. They're allowed to love what they do.

anyone remember the feeling waking up on Saturday morning as a kid just to watch spongebob back in its glory days? The original spongebob will always be the best imo.

You know a show is legendary when there are countless legendary memes that come from it. I wish Gen Z could be re-named the SpongeBob Generation, but I dont think we'll ever come up with any kind of art that was as creative or unique as those first 3 seasons. Stephen Hillenburg's passing became an unexpected "where were you" moment for me. RIP to a legend and thanks for everything.

at least you can picture mr. crabs doing this and it makes it funnier. like when mr. crabs sold spongebob's soul to the flying dutchman for like 40 cents. mr. crabs was the caricature of making fun of the this exact type of thing, lmao.
