Fun game, being attacked can definitely derail your plans but it goes with the territory of that type of game.

Got to play ARCS for the first time on the weekend -- there are so many slick mechanisms working together, and the player aid (as you mentioned) is probably the best in any game I've seen. That said, I doubt I'll play it again. There was nothing mechanical to stop or disincentivize dogpiling which made for an absolutely crappy experience. I feel like that in most ARCS games, one player is probably going to walk away never wanting to play it again. I don't mind that in pure ameritrash or head-to-head games, but it's so unsatisfying in a game that asks you to engage with its interesting mechanics only to have your last hour of play be 100% meaningless.

Hmmm this is interesting. I can't say I've felt like this as yet in my 15 or so plays, but that's not to say it isn't possible. Dogpiling isn't something we do or encourage generally, but even in that circumstance I feel like turtling and playing an exploitation and resource game would still be viable if people are dumping all of their cards into dogpiling you. I'm sorry to hear that was your experience. The campaign aims to fix this in some ways.

Can’t say it’s “snappy” like you said. It’s prone to high AP because people are thinking through so many possible options based on their actions and the board state.

We haven't had this issue across 17 people we have played with so far, maybe we are the lucky few 👀

We've found this problem gets solved through multiple plays. The action system creates snappy play by most turns just being a couple quick moves that are usually fairly obvious for you unless you are leading or maybe surpassing. The more you just play rather than try to optimize the faster games go and you can get multiple plays in during one session

AP is a player problem not a game problem. It just means there's a large decision space and non-obvious moves. Would it be better if the game held your hand?
