I learned a little bit more about these magnificent black bears! Thank you!

Black bears in my area look like scrawny big dogs. I love them so much 😌

I've always thought it a shame that it was brown bears that evolved on Kodiak Island and not black bears. Can you imagine how cool HUGE Kodiak Island black bears would be? The largest black bear ever recorded weighed over 900 pounds dressed. That means it weighed more than 1,100 pounds alive. That's huge even for a brown bear. Now Imagine black bears 1,500 pounds plus. That, at least to me, would be an awesome sight to see.

Never met a grizzly, but had a few close encounters with black bears in Manitoba. One I saw from about three hundred yards away was said by locals to be over 800 pounds. Once had the privilege of relieving myself about 15 yards away from a bear when I stepped away from my camp that I was on with friends on a canoe trip. It went well,as I finished my business, talking to it softly and it went away without problem.

Tundra grizzlies are pretty small though. I recall seeing a few in Alaska on the north slope and they were no larger than typical black bears.
@loganmartin653421 күн бұрын
I know what you mean. Blackbears in southeast Alaska can get the size of your typical grizzly. By that, I mean (HUGE)

Then I wonder how small the black bears there were.

@@UmongusSussehFrusseh There are none in the tundra west of Hudson Bay, only grizzlies.

Black bears kill plenty of large animals like caribou, even here in Alaska where there are LOTS of grizzlies. Also, you should not feel so safe as you say you do around them. When a black bear attacks it’s almost always preditory, he’s going to kill and eat you! When a grizzly or brown bear attacks it’s usually out of aggression and while awful, it’s usually not fatal. Just my 2 cents having lived closely with both of them my whole life. Great video, very cool!

And because black bears are smaller, they have an easier time sneaking up on you. Would even be worse if your region had leopards.
@UmongusSussehFrusseh20 күн бұрын
@@justinianthegreat1444 Yeah leopards are terrifying.
@justinianthegreat144420 күн бұрын
@@UmongusSussehFrusseh They're absolute units. They often get overshadowed by Lions and Tigers whom they share a habitat with but when it comes to killing people, Leopards are better at it and have been historically the most prominent hominid killer. These cats are the best cats there is and are very adept at killing humans and other apes that even silverback gorillas don't even stand a chance

Think you have your bears confused.

@ Not sure what you mean. We have black, brown/grizzly and polar bears here. I have little experience with polar bears but I’ve literally lived with the other two my whole life. I kill and eat them, hang their skins and skulls on my wall. I know them inside and out you might say. What’s your experience? KZbin videos?😆

Just like the difference between western coyotes and eastern coyotes
@NotLately15 күн бұрын
No, because eastern coyotes are actually hybridized with grey wolves.

Surprised they are not getting much larger, I live in an area where the food resources are huge and the black bears here minus the Grizzly that used to be here are getting huge compared to most black bears in other areas, they even are starting to look like Grizzly's.

Interesting video. I had never heard of this black bear evolution before. Wonder if they grow much larger after enough generations of mainly eating meat.

If you could cross a black bear with a polar bear you might end up with a bear that looks like a holstein cow 😂

OK I have to disagree with you that the only bears you see in the American tundra are grisly, that's because you can also see grolar bears that were born of grisly mothers

Title on the thumbnail is a bit misleading as there are actual dark furred usurri brown bears referred to as black grizzlies in russia. These are black bears acting like grizzlies. Interesting, though!
