I was intimidated for a long time by others' description of Ardbeg as a ‘peat monster’. I bought a bottle and know that it’s not a monster at all. It is a delicious, smoky, sweet whisky!

Not had the Coryvecken but have enjoyed 2 of the Ugiedail. 80% Bunnahabin 12 / 20% Ugiedail is a great blend. Try it in a larger sample bottle and let it sit for a week and you will have a great sherry peat dram. Cheers Alan and Congratulations on 5000 subscribers!

Wow, this review popped up on KZbin, so I watched as I enjoy smoky whiskies. I had unopened bottles of both in my stash. I have favored Corryvrecken per my recollection. I opened both. neck pours and adjusted the ABV with a bit of water to get to the 46% mark I prefer. Nosing them, it was Corryvrecken. But tasting, wow!. I preferred the Uigeadail . Thanks for the review. It's Uigeadail from now on. I preferred it, not to mention that it is cheaper than its brother.

Here in the northeast US, Uigeadail is selling for $80-ish, and the Corryvreckan is going for $90-ish. (Feb. 2024)

I absolutely agree with your assessment that both of these are right up there and hard to separate in terms of quality but I also prefer the Uigeadail albeit only just. The Corryvreckan was more oily and maritime but Uige was just a superb all round flavour!

YES! It's peat 😃 Great you're shining a light on the peated expressions, Alan. Love bothe the Uigeadail and the Corryvreckan. Not one of them a winner over the other. Is merely a matter of mood which one I prefer. Slàinte mhath

Nicely done, Alan. You might remember, that Ardbeg Uigeadial was my very first Peated dram- WOULD HAVE been Lagavulin 16, but my wee brother was out of Laga 16, at the time! Uigeadial immediately become my favourite Scotch & Favourite whisky; comparing it side-by-side with Corryvreckan would be a whole lot of FUN! Slàinte Mhath, Alan 🏴🏴🇬🇧🥃🤠🥃🇨🇦🇺🇸

Alan, I love that you are a sherry head who has grown to love peat, I am the opposite! I was a peat head who learned to love sherried whiskies. I have to say that the best style of whisky is one that incorporates both. I think that you would be blown away by Kilchoman Loch Gorm, that would be a good review. I'd also be very interested in your opinion on Ballechin 10, that one not only has the peat and the sherry but also the funky, hefty maltiness of the Edradour spirit. Cheers brotha!

Always an interesting battle. I've done this many times and I always prefer the Uigeadail. Truthfully I doubt I'll buy the Corry again. It's good whisky but I find it lacking in complexity in comparison to the Uige. It feels a little sugar-coated to me, pigeon-holing it into a slightly narrow tonal zone. Congrats on the 5K Alan!

I’ve been drinking Uideadail for many years. It’s changed quite a bit, but still an engaging, complex dram. It used to have a more pronounced salty bacon note. Had the Corry a few times and wasn’t blown away.

Just tried the Uigeadail and will leave my old faves Laphroaig and Laga behind--I mean do you really need to chill filter a peated whiskey? If you go in that deep, the last thing on your mind is cloudiness. For the others, their cask strength is good. 2017, 2018 and the 2021 Lagavulin 12 are very good. So glad I found the Uigie! Now I need the Corry

Just recently pre order those two Ardbeg at Manchester Airport for a reasonable price of £87 . Finished the Uigeadail at Christmas loved it so much, I bought a back up bottle, never had the Corryvreckan so I really wanted to try it couldn't pass them up at the money I paid for them. I agree it's hard to pick a winner between them. I personally like the Corryvreckan

Uigeadails from the early 2000s are soou massively good and delicious. Whole different animal compared to today’s version. Apparently something to do with the sherried distillates from the 70’s in them. Still have one bottle on TEN from 2003, have to make similar comparison to today’s version.
@pristinescalesllc94692 жыл бұрын
Great video Alan! It really is surprising how easy both of these are to drink. I don't feel like the Uigeadail is 54.2%

Corryvreckan was easily the scotch I drank the most of this year. Uigeadail is way less interesting, so my bottle just tends to sit around collecting dust.

Corryvreckan for me. A cracker great value too.

Agree. It’s the more challenging of the two, and it took me a couple bottles to….errrrr….get used to it, but I think it’s excellent. More going on, especially of you give the Corry time in the glass (like 2 hours. Lol). Both whiskies are worthy and I still buy them both. Not hard to tell them apart.

Alan, the question has been asked already but I'll post it again, how does the peat of the Uigeadail compare to peat in Ardbeg 10?
@thewhiskyfriend2 жыл бұрын
Hey folks... There both awesome just think the 10 is little more punchy rougher where as the sherry is giving more balance to the uigi... The uigi is more rounded and more complex sutlties and the 10 is more in your face peat... Cheers for dropping bye.... Are you enjoying the peat series.. What dram would you like to see me do?
@HolyMoley2u2 жыл бұрын
@@thewhiskyfriend Thanks for the reply Alan. I'm trying to get interested in peated single malt, so your video of the Ledaig 10 helped. Johnnie Walker green 15 yr to me was too little peat presence and kinda harsh. Since you have much more experience then me, how about peated single malt age statement, non chilled whisky not more than 15 years old and rate them as the best price for the quality. Could you check your notes and pick 3 of the top runners video? P.S. Have you reviewed Speyburn 15 yr ? Rob

I'm in Utah so it's going to be weird pricing but the State's store has the uigeadail as 95 bucks or the Corryvreckan as 130 bucks. Do you think these are good pricing?

A sugar cube and a cigar goes way further than the Corryvreckan, 'cept for the drunk part. 2021 bottling w/o the taste of malted barley distillate whatsoever. Haven't tried the Uigeadail as of yet.
