Ardhanareeswar , represents the inseparable duality in the universe :
" CREATION AND DESTRUCTION " "MATTER AND CONSCIOUSNESS "
"PURUSH AND PRAKRITI ". The divine union of Shiva and his consort Shakti, represents the synthesis of masculine and feminine energies. The item is a homage to Ardhanareeswar.

Saraswati Sangita Mahavidyalay is a premier institution dedicated to promoting Odissi dance and music. It was founded by Sri Dhruba Charan Panigrahi on the 26th of January 1997 on the occasion of Republic Day of India in Bhadrak, Odisha; to transcend all elite boundaries of its originated town (Bhadrak) and make Odissi dance and music accessible to people from all economic condition and social activities. The main motto of Saraswati Sangita Mahavidyalay is preserving the invaluable indigenous dance form Odissi to keep educating people on its importance in upholding our identity. A part from dancing, students here is trained under percussion Tabla, Hindustani Vocal. Moreover, theory classes for the development of Odissi aesthetics and a grooming class is also given on a regular basis. On the decision of above well wishers this institution has named “SARASWATI SANGITA MAHAVIDYALAY” as Late Saraswati Panigrahi was the wife of Dhruba Charan Panigrahi.

Once observe it… It’s a long dance. Dancers which are performed continuously has so much dance (harmony in their actions with blended raaga or music) in them. I think this is the greatest difference between dance from rich to poor or gold to glitter. It’s not about the eastern or western, people cultivated with rich simpleness which is very complex and the demo is here.

Interesting to see 2 male dancers for ArdhaNarishwar dance - where by definition one should be male and one female. It would be interesting to understand why they chose to do it this way instead.

The dancers can be of any gender, they depicting ardhanareshwar that doesn’t mean there need to be girl and boy doing it. In fact two girls can also perform on ardhanareshwar where one girl will depict shiv and the other girl will depict shakti. This is normal in classical dance. As a bharatnatyam dancer, this is a fact and not my opinion.

But I am unhappy that you have not acknowledged that the original choreography is by Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. Also I see that part of his choreography is changed, you must also mention who has done the changed choreography.

The choreography for this piece is by my Guru, the immortal Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. If you perform his pieces it is imperative that you acknowledge his choreography, and that you absolutely do NOT tamper with it. Such pieces are sacred and must not be violated. This piece was choreographed for Sanjukta Panigrahi in 1979. I was with my guru at his residence in Cuttack on the very evening that the choreography was started: the first stanza is set to music by Pandit Bhubaneswar Mishra; the rest, by Pandit Raghunath Panigrahi. Performance without acknowledging the choreographer and the composer of the music is plagiarism. It basically is a tribute to the Union of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati called Ardhanarisvara(Half-feminine-Lord in Sanskrit) representing the essence that is the Unity of Masculine and feminine expressions in divinity and creation.
