Awesome!!! So glad this is moving along. Much props to you! Things will change rather drastically once 12 motors and software to keep head tracking working will be worth so much money!!! Terrance is on to more than most realized that commented negatively on Joshua’s stream. I felt bad for everyone involved when saw how pathetic our community revealed itself to be. I’d honestly invest in this tech is how I feel about it’s potential. Be careful man just being honest here. So much physical constraints could be lifted from how many think about modern flight with this design that it could open up avenues that haven’t even been thought about.

It would make a lot of sense to control the motors with virtual grouping (control motor/lifting motors/bias of each). The current "lifting motors" will need different rates/tune and if the drone is truly free to rotate on all 3 rotational axis while hovering in place, it will easily be able to tell orientation/gravity by motor amp draw and assign the proper PID's to the correct group; lifting motors, control motor, or for any angle, the respective components of each. I have a custom opentx with thumb pots on both sticks, it's nice to actually have all 6-axis right at you're fingertips. Let me know is you want to this thing to orbit in place like mine, good tune btw, and I dig you're motor layout.

Would be interesting to see your omniCopter in a variable pitch arrangement where all props are at a constant velocity. I imagine weight is already a key limiter?
@index77874 жыл бұрын
The main advantage with variable pitch is running everything off one motor and saving a ton of weight. And the massive increase in control authority. Would be cool, I'll look into it.

Sup, I have a similar bird. I use virtual grouping of the motors to separate them (real-time) into lifting, control, or a components of each. Separate PID tunes for each group. Mine can rotate on all axies while hovering in place or flying a circuit. 3rd loop monitors motor amp draw/accelerometers to constantly "guess" where straight up is, it fights drift pretty well. I run an opentx with thumb pots on the sticks, so I have 6-axies on the sticks.

Is there anymore info about your copter? Would love to see how it flys. ArduPilot runs a EKF for state estimation so it has a very good idea which way is up most of the time.

Could you share your pid tunes, I forgot the sense of upright, LOL!
@index77874 жыл бұрын
Pid tunes are sensitive down to the resonance/rigidity/weight of the frame. His tune wouldn't give you much. Besides, it would make much more sense to control the motors with virtual grouping. The current lifting motors will need different rates and if the drone is truly free to rotate on all 3 rotational axis while hovering in place, it will easily be able to tell orientation/gravity by motor amp draw and assign the proper PID's to the correct group; lifting motors, control motor, or for any angle, the respective component vectors of each.
