I illustrate the joy of learning by just having a go at something that you find interesting. The story of what I got up to in winter 2017: an exciting tale of many hours staring at a screen, bad soldering, and running after a runaway model glider.
Music by my friend the Jazz Badger.

I did not expect to see such a good video with little to no views. Good job man

In 2018 I found that the hobby that I had before entering the university, RC planes, had a revolution in the 20 years that I didn't could do anything... I bought a new radio, motors, servos, batteries, and several controllers. I started to work with them, I learn a lot, I made a few models (I have more work than when I was a child) but I learn, and now I have few planes that I connect to my computer by MAVLink protocol, and say to them where I want them to fly... "Do it to learn" that's is best true.

Ooh, one of those long-ago buried gems of a video. I guess my travels that took me here were simply researching how to plot accelerometer data points, watching videos on accelerometer set-up, and then more out of morbid curiosity, watching more heavily math-related velocity videos on how to make your own drone... I would never do that, but the math part was above my head but fun to watch. And off to the side, I saw 'Arduino Glider'. Very cool mate! So if I discovered anything new from your video (aside from enjoying the lovely landscape shots, which were my favorite part), it was getting the accelerometer to create a heading. I'll rewatch that part of your video and try to keep that in mind. Not something I need, but something I could measure.

Thanks man. I enjoied the thougts. Your message. Inspiring. I´m learning to make a glider and this video is definetly a good part of that learning process. Im on my fiftyies and have not shame on start to learn something new :)

Love your attitude-philosophy: "If there is something you'd like to try, what are you waiting for. Why don't you have a go and see what you learn". Whilst one remains aware of realty (both negative and positives), one is primarily focused on the positive (not consumed by the negatives), because of such, one is encouraged to strive for the sky, in our situation, we're striving for space. Would you be interested in putting to use your skills for near-term space travel?

Well, at the moment I'm keen on making some more videos about rockets. I like your channel though! I'm particularly going to have check out your video on MHD propulsion, as you aren't the only person I know who is interested in it.

That's exactly what I hoped I'd find when I searched for it! Thank you so much for this video and keep up the motivation to learn these things! I was thinking maybe I could put exactly what you built inbetween the normal rc receiver and the servos. It would fly normally until you'd switch a flick, arduino detects the pwm of the receiver output and get to work. With some coding you could maybe also make it so the plane flies into the direction of where it was going just before flicking the switch. Could you maybe provide the code of this project? I might give this a try on my 8 year old FPV plane. Waay cheaper than an ardupilot fc :)

So you measured, pitch, roll, and heading. Another video measured g-forces in either direction. I may try to implement all of this if I can. I'm thinking the magnetometer must be its own module because I don't think the acceler. comes with it.

Hi Rich. This video is so great.❤ I was searching for a video like that for 3 days now. I am trying to make an 100% autonomous plane with arduino. But, I can't find a video explaining how to get heading of the plane. Could you please add your code in the video description please? That would help me very much. Thanks!

lol very nice video i see the problem just when you connect the battery you have to make sure the plane its perfectly on level because the fligth controller gonna take for reference the position of the plane when it turn on i mean if the plane are pointing down when you connect the batery or turn it gonna think pointing down are the rigth possition and to fix that tail tape just tape

Any chance I could get the code or the sites where you got the information to piece it together. I'm wanting to learn Arduino code so I make a fight controller because I don't know how to code but won't to learn.

I remember as a young child wondering if damped pendulums in a glider connected to ailerons and elevator could keep the craft steady in flight. Never did build it.
