brilliant comparison with the velocity sensitivity!! at 8:00, appreciated this comparison, very informative 8) That M32 sounds a million times better than the launchkey with the sensitive keys.

I'm really hoping for a comparison of one of the Fatar Hammer action midi controllers (Native Instruments S88 MK2 or Studiologic S88) compared to digital keyboards like Roland FP-10 or Yamaha P125. *nobody* has done a review like this yet!

Why not the minilab mk2 from arturia? It's a bit strange to have the microlab instead in this roundup.

Arturia really has a disadvantage here. You should have used the MiniLab mk2 for a comparison. It has knobs, pads, same price as the akai and i would say it's more portable than the NI one.

@@lockee77 The minilab keys are better than all the other competitors. Same goes with the Essentials and the MK2. Both have better keys than their competitions. Novation wins because it is newer and has much more DAW control. Minilab knobs are useful for sound design in ANalog Lab

The key velocity curve on the MPK Mini Mk3 needs adjusted. It’s almost piano level effort and that’s ok if it actually has a piano action inside but doesn’t. The highest velocities are work to get. That’s cool if you’re coming from a piano or a piano weighted keybed. It’s isn’t great for a semi weighted controller. Hold the full level button for 5+ seconds to gain access to the settings for velocity settings.

The Novation has so many features that you did not go over, that make it a clear winner. The ARP , fixed chord, repeat, deviate and Strum are so powerful.

YO I AGREE! I bought both so I could try them out and completely agree. I would totally give up some knobs on the Arturia minilab mk2 for the pads on the Akai mpk mini mk3. The keys on the mpk mini just don’t have the same feel as the minilab.

Great video! I also was looking for a 25 key midikeyboard. Finally I choose the Novation because of the midi out port. I've connected it to my Korg NTS1 synth. The pads can also be used as extra playingkeys.

Could you please test-review the piano-action on the "Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S88 Mk2"? :)

I got the M32 because is a nice controller having encoders but is not too much portable, my main reason is to have the software control but not to spend to much on A-series because I have a Keystation 61es and not the space to put a wider controller under my desk and have access to the controls (I just can out the keys and keept 5cm under the desk on that slim keyboard). Another bad thing is main features are build in software, on the Launchkey Mini you have arpeggiator on the keyboard, but on M32 you need Komplete Kontrol software to use that.

still can't decide between Launchkey Mini MK3 and Akai. there is no option to turn-off velocity of drumpads on Launchkey Mini MK3 like there is on Akai. so I am leaning more towards Akai MPK...

Same thoughts here. Another thing I keep thinking about is the joystick vs the modulation strip. Any thoughts on it?
@KingTut14
@KingTut14 3 жыл бұрын
@@itsjustaki_ the strips are of course better and more accurate. but tbh if you're new like me, it wouldnt matter much. Just got my Akai and so overwhelmed with all the stuff I am learning, especially the DAW, it's gonna be a while before I flat out start making full songs. get whatever features matter to you most. and if you ever get the hang of it, you could always buy another midi down the line... gl

Thanks for this. Coming down to Guildford to return my A25 this weekend as it doesnt work - no control of anything in logic when you plug it in. The keys and wheels work but that's it sadly. No transport controls, nothing at all and I thought I might need to install the software but didnt do so because I was worried it would invalidate my chance to return it. Now seeing that the M32 transport controls work when plugging in and you didnt need to install the software, I realise there is something actually wrong with the one I was sent!!!! Might come and get the Akai MPK Mini then. Shame as I was hoping to use the massive range of included sounds with the NI controller but if this is indicative of their products then I am not willing to give it another chance - plus I do want pads!

The knobs of the Launchkey aren't going to fare well if it's treated like that when transporting it in a backpack. I always use the box that it came in and it still fits fine with my Alienware 15 R3 and all of my other gubbins. Respect the mechanics of your equipment and it'll last longer.

LK mini MK3 can be the one for all midi kb with its trs MIDI out. But it have a few steps to go there. Like full midi implementation on custom mode (now its only notes on pads... whaaat?). Like more than one custom mode... there is plenty of place on it. Maybe some detault tempo setting for arp (no midi tempo in without host computer/phone). Novation team showed us that gear can be more then it apoears at a bagining with circuit. Hope their are still in shape and will remember about actual users before realeseing "next gen". Wuld like that a lot❤

LAVLY comparison. Curveball for anyone looking to do easy sequencing/control hardware synths/control anything vaguely modular - the Arturia KeyStep is £99 and has a 64-step sequencer built in, plus an 8-mode arpeggiator. CV/MIDI connectivity too. That's what I started with and it has been an absolute workhorse.

Pretty noob question, I got the Akai to plug into my phone and run Caustic with. I get a lot of latency though and I thought maybe it was just the keyboard but this guy doesn't seem to have that. Any ideas on how to improve this at all?
@jackduxbury1632
@jackduxbury1632 4 жыл бұрын
No worries Bellsprout. Often you'll find Latency can be reduced by reducing the "Buffer" size in your Audio Preferences of your Daw. Smaller Buffer = Less Latency. Unfortunately there's a point where you'll experience pops/clicks/dropouts if you set it too small so the compromise is to set it as small as it can be when recording and playing with out any audible problems. As tracks build up and you progress to mixing then you can whack that buffer (DAW brain!) size back up meaning your computer can access more power and memory for the mor CPU and Memory intensive tasks. Check some videos on Buffer Size and Latency if that didn't make sense my good man. Thanks for watching X

This is really common with android. Best advice I can give is to get one of those system optimizer apps and hibernate as much as possible. I can run Caustic with the MPK on my old Kindle Fire HD with pretty minimal latency if I do that.
