I find physically squashing aphids don't remove 100% and also damages the the soft, young parts of the plants, which apparently is where most aphids are found. Spraying with water pressure also don't remove 100% of aphids. I find light detergent spray almost always remove 100% of aphids on infested plants. Neem oil spray is also effective but works much slower but can provide global control of aphids over the entire plant. By nuking the aphids with detergent solution first and then followed by neem oil with detergent spray mixture after a few days is the most effective way to rid aphids off infested plants. To ensure aphids don't come back, take the cause out of the equation by avoiding excessively fertilizing with nitrogen rich fertilizers.

Power BF you can also make white oil by adding some vegetable oil in with the detergent and water. It’s really good. I use dr bonners peppermint liquid soap and any kind of plant oil(you can use neem if you want it to be stronger) with water and it does the trick.

Thank you for the help. I was surprised not to hear any mention of ants though and the problem they create by their farming of aphids, effectively multiplying the problem tenfold! If anyone reading this has noticed many ants also on the plants then you need to stop them. Apply tree grease to the plants main stem or tree tunk creating an impenetrable barrier to the ants. Once the ants die and stop revisiting you should notice a lesser problem. I just learned this and it really helped, although I still need to get rid of the aphids that are remaining, hence this video is very useful!

Greetings from Nova Scotia, Canada! Up until this past summer I used most of your various suggestions with really limited success until I employed a dormant oil spray in very late winter and very early spring. This allowed many of my plants to get off to a great start before the aphids arrived and then it was just a matter of the occasional insecticide soap to specific areas of concern. Take care and stay safe!

great vid! I love using soapy water. I grow everything in container so I can dunk all infected mature plant into soapy water and let it soak for 30 seconds to 1 minute before I use water blasting the dead aphids away and also clean the plant. Cover the soil with plastic bag first. Just do this in two to three consecutive days and no aphids survived! You do need to figure out the cause that weakening your plants tho. Otherwise, aphids will come back again and again. Too much nitrogen or incorrect amount of watering are usually the two main culprits. Cheers!
@sonyarowe50355 жыл бұрын
I know one person mentioned if you have too much nitrogen for a particular plant it can cause aphids so you should also reduce the nitrogen and see if it helps with the aphids.

@3moirai4 жыл бұрын
I've had problems with aphids on my pepper plants especially the ones I overwintered this past year. I must have brought them in and with no predators, they thrived. I tried soap, I tried diatomaceous earth, and even pyrethrins insecticide and they still covered my peppers, even now that I've put them outside. I'm going to try using beauveria bassiana fungus (like Botanigard) next. I'm hoping to finally rid myself of these pests before my 5 year old pepper dies.

Good video, but none of these work for tender edible leaves such as lettuce, basil, and many other greens and herbs. I've been trying for over a year to control my aphid situation and they just keep coming back. They devour my basil plants. I plant from seed, and If I turn my back for a few days, they take over. The neem oil won't work because it makes the leaves taste bitter. The soap doesn't work b/c you are eating these leaves. Even after washing rinsing some of the soap still manages to stay on the leaves. Boil some kale or greens in soup and you will see the bubbles form from the residual soap. And you can't scrub these tender leaves either. This is a great video, but all the videos on youtube never really focus on these herbs and tender leaves. Treating greens you're actually going to eat. If anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it!

Found these little critters on my property lst year .. I live next to a small abandoned lot with giant willow tree and lots of over grown bush (wildlife sanctuary) which over the years housed many raccoon families and squirrel families...so last year during the summer I kept noticing dozen of wasps hovering and walking on the roof of my car....did some research and found out that the substance on the car roof was "honeydwew" which turns out to be aphid poop...who knew? found aphids covering my chainlink fence ,everzoom in on a aphid ? ..FREAKED me out..I am assuming that the furry habitants of willow over the years cuased the NITROGEN blast which helped feed the aphids..During a windy storm one of the 8" diameter 7 foot long branches blew off the willow and I noticed thousnads (I assume. did not count them) of these aphids carpeting the inside of the branch where it was rotted away..

Aphids only target problematic plants! Remember if there is to much nitrates in the plant Aphids will come running. I have 2 Tamarillo trees one had to much nitrates, I through ash around it more than once in 3 months and the plant got infested with aphids but not the other one I have also heard of other peoples with related issues. This is mostly the biggest cause of Aphids I have noticed.
