@@machixius that is what mojang doesn't want minecraft to become. They will most likely never add anything like automatic wood collectors or miners because it goes against what they intended the game to be. Besides most of current farms require the player to be somewhat near the farm (since mobs spawn within a certain distance from the player) so, like antvemon mentioned, if you are making something withing that range then there are no issues with them. However, just sitting there while being AFK doesn't really allow you to do anything in-game so it would be annoying (especially for me) having to wait for however long to obtain iron when I could just go to look for iron in some caves and at least explore a bit of the world.

Farms ruin the economy? Look at hermitcraft again. Cheaper iron mean even players with less resource are able to get it. Even afk fish farms to get mending dont ruin your game. Yeah, you leave the computer open at night, and then you dont have to spend hours mining for diamonds... you need to instead invest them in making xp farm to fix your tools. Wow, i wonder whats more fun? Strip mining or building stuff? Tough question. I dont need to answer it because every player can make their own choice. Resource gathering isnt the main idea of minecraft. You can build bigger, more impressive things if you get a good food farm and you are able to farm the blocks you need, or have enough resource to gather what you dont farm. The only point here that relevant is lag. There are less laggy versions of most farm. Check sci-craft for example. They are expert in farms, and do everything to avoid lag.

Agreed, there is no right way to play minecraft, some people like to make auto farms. Who's to say that is the wrong way to play. We have a large number of these players on my realm, if it wasn't for them I don't think we would have worlds that last 6+ months. Everyone would get bored long before that. The ones that like to mine for diamonds spend it on slime and other items the auto-farmers sell. They in turn us their diamonds for other shops. etc etc. The economy still works.

AFK fish farms... If not bothering with food or mending makes the game more fun for you? Why not just use /give? Or do you like pretending you are playing the game "legit?" Well... I think AFK fishing is as legit survival as /give. But if the game is more fun that way, OK.
@Wiggins-
@Wiggins- 5 жыл бұрын
In terms of ruining the economy, getting infinite of something is bad for the market because it makes the item in question effectively worthless, there's no point in trading that item whatsoever because it's either basically (if it becomes monopolized) or literally free, in turn, narrowing the scope of what's viable in the market and making it more difficult for business to grow or evolve. This will in turn raise the value of money, which is what's known as deflation (Deflation because it makes less money, due to it's higher value), making money itself less available to all parties. Eventually a trend will happen if more resources inflate (Dropping in value because there is so much more of it), deflating money more until eventually the majority of people cannot effectively make enough money to live, making the market crash and causing the majority of people to live in destitution and/or poverty until the market balances out again. That being said, it's minecraft, it's not like it needs a stable economy because every individual has the abilities and tools needed to do everything, (An economy is born from necessity after all) including making an automatic farm. All I'm doing is explaining why an infinite resource is usually bad for a market or economy. (And kind of why it's usually impossible to sustain one in minecraft) An explanation on the "Monopolization of an infinite resource" thing You'd probably expect if someone is in full control of a resource that they could charge whatever they want for it, since they have no competition, which is true. However, in terms of a resource that is no expenditure to the company, it makes more sense to sell it for a lower value because A. It gets more of their product out in the market and more of it sold, period. B. Having a more available product is going to draw more customers to buy their product, in turn, increasing their profits C. If not as many people can afford said product, the company will end up with excess of a product that they have little they can do with, and accumulates nothing by sitting around, showing investors and potential business partners that the product isn't worth their business, slowing or halting the growth of the company producing the infinite product. D. Eventually, competition will rise up, and when it does, because the product itself has so little value, unless they adapt and lower prices, the new company will inevitably out-compete the monopoly, forcing the monopoly's hand to lower prices in order to kick out the new competition. (A monopoly's power resides in being able to crush competition WHEN it pops up, as it is impossible to outright prevent potential competition from happening, even if for whatever reason it becomes illegal, a black market will simply pop up, making it even more difficult for the monopoly to compete with as it can simply ignore normal market regulations and rules) As a result, the item will end up inflating regardless of what the company would attempt, there's simply too many factors to an unlimited supply of a product.

The overall quality of life actually drastically decreased with the industrial revolution. It's become better now that we have all kinds of entertainment and distractions and sanitation and such, but going from working freelance (meaning self-controlled schedule, not easy work) on a family farm or small workshop and living off the land, to working a repetitive mind-numbing job all day in a dangerous factory to make starving wages and come home to a filthy disease-ridden apartment building in an overcrowded city was quite a blow to the happiness of everyone involved except the upper-class bosses.

I think automatic farms are one of the best things about Minecraft. It’s just fun to get a farm up and running. I guess I’m speaking to innovation in general, as opposed to one facet of the most multi-faceted games ever, but my point still stands. Also, add a composter to your iron farms. There’s no way you’ll need THAT many poppies. Also, if your melon/pumpkin/sugarcane/cactus farms ever overflow, put the excess in a composter as well!

1- No farm is too good in minecraft there is a reason why you always variation and new versions of them all the time. 2-Number to just cause farm produce ONE or two even four types of items automatically does not mean you inventory and all of your chest will have unlimited supply of that material at all time in fact in they tremedous of time just to create a decent amount of that thing otherwise Minecraft would be more like Farmcraft . 3- Farms are not that OP the effort you need to build them takes of grinding and even when the build is finished you are still not completely done in fact you have ensure its safely and moniter the work constantly at least once a minecraft day . 4- Most farms need another if multiple to gather the material you need for them. 5- Just makes so that you don't have to be enslaved into doing the same action over and over for the rest of your life . 6- Farms can be satisfying when they work properly. 7- Automatic are just a more advanced version of grinding resources just cleverly .

Nobody will return to the server because they will have nothing to grind for and nothing to do. Long term server with active players - dont allow auto/semi auto farms Short term gameplay - auto farms

The most broken farms are EMC generators in ProjectE (Equivalent Exchange). Me and a friend were fighting over who gets the most diamonds from an energy condenser, but I just decided to make a 3x5 flat EMC generator that got us hundreds of red matter blocks within minutes. We went from looking for resources and making quarries to having everything at our disposal instantly. We were suddenly able to kill anything and anyone, destroy biomes in seconds and fly while doing all of that. Kinda ruined the thing for others.

it's only bad on multiplayer servers where your lag affects others and for people that want to challenge themselves, but can't resist the allure of effortless immortality (per the totem of undying farm) AFK options are great because they allow people to do other things without suffering the agony of loss aversion.

I feel like it depends on what they do with the resources, say that someone has an iron farm but hoards all the iron to themselves and uses it to pillage others I have a feeling that could ruin some Minecraft servers, but say someone has an iron farm but then they make an amazing public area using those iron blocks where people can trade, talk and have fun kinda ruins the point of something like that ruining a server, it would or more or less improve the server.

Most crazy auto farms like golems, witch, and totem of undying are end game. I think if you build up to it, you should be able to rest on your laurels. But they do remove a lot of incentive to go out and adventure other than just for the sake of it. If your minecraft base becomes a Warlords of Draenor Simulator, it might be too much though

I personally enjoy building mini games in survival in a multi player server. So I love to automate stuff to get the resources for that stuff. Because I use alot of it. Yeah I end up the richest person in the server. But that also means we dont get bored after end game stuff. Building something like an arena or even a racing game using boats and packed ice is a great way to keep things fun. I'm currently struggling with some noobs who own a server and are really trying their hardest to fight a loosing battle. They dont want people afk. And they have plug ins to try and stop people from doing it. And have even gone as far as teleporting to random people to check up on them. And spoiling things like their own suprise birthday party. They do this to keep things "fun", but this is WAY to controlling for it to be fun and is driving even me away from the server.

personally i feel it really boils down to what you/ your server wants out of the game. i think its super cool that some of the hyperspecialized farms are able to farm things as rare as totems of undying. The farm building is one part of the community, just like redstone, minigames and whatever else.

I personally think afk farms are a playstyle altogether. They are also integral parts to certain survival challenges such as skyblock. In all honesty, it depends on what the player wants to do. If they get tired of their massive endgame afk farm world, they can turn around and go to a new world with the challenge of never building a single afk farm. Or they can install mods and afk farm that. Or do mods without afk. It depends on what the player wants to do. That's what makes this game so great though. Its virtually endless possibilities.

Ultimately, I only play modded so no automation is the name of the game. Expert mod packs often have progression requirements that would be so painfully grindy that no one would feasibly get through them manually. The whole point is to build better and better automation to allow you to pass through the increasingly demanding requirements. This design and management aspect is what I find to be the most enjoyable.

If you're going to build something tremendously large, having some way of automatically producing resources is very good. As for an economy... It's a game, there isn't really an economy. You still have to work to get villager trades, but with automation, you have to work far less and get far more in return. It's not like the real economy in which an overreliance in automation can destroy parts of an economy and cause other problems (pollution, crime, unrest, etc.) The most fun I have is building big structures, and automation makes that far more feasible.

Farms were about the biggest reasons I played MC. Without them I would never touch the game again. Also this is why I advocate for having mineable/craftable spawners but I am sure that is a pipe dream because adding a fucking turtles is so important. The same goes for adapting enchantments so I have better than eff V etc. I am not saying make this easy, but it is why I play.

Building the farms is what makes it fun. Then when I don't want to watch my farms tick, I build something fun and off the cuff, like fancy horse parkours or something. The point of minecraft is that it does it all and every play style has a place. Add to that, if I ever regret a farm, there is always tnt.

It’s the same thing with No Mans Sky, Sims, Terraria and other games that share that aspect even though the Sims games are different but does have similar aspects to minecraft if you’re not placing things down in build/buy mode. Satisfactory and Factorio are the two main games which about automatic farms. Automatic farms are only bad for minecraft if you’re playing on online servers or realms. Multiplayer LAN games are questionable but automatic farms should never be used on large multiplayer servers or on realms you may cause the server to crash or make it unfair for everyone else on that server.

For example the points about lag and needing to be around, they've found ways around those with chuckloadsing ect and if you say that's too technical... well what if I complained about dieing to mobs, you suggest I craft armour and say that crafting the perfect set of enchanted diamond armour while I'm still in a dirt block is too hard.

I just see this as the game supporting multiple play styles: Superficially the game is a kind of grindy experience - which can be enjoyable, certainly. But by allowing automated resource gathering, a feature that conventionally would be considered undesirable in almost any other game, it allows for the technical play style, which is about creating machines to eliminate a lot of the mundane chores of the game. That said I do think it's important to consider game balance in the technical aspects of the game. I feel the point of automated resource gathering is not to effectively turn Survival Mode into Creative Mode, but rather to give the player interesting challenges, in terms of designing and building machines to perform the automation. From that perspective I think it's appropriate for the developers to cultivate a set of interesting mechanics which makes automated resource gathering possible, but always with an eye toward keeping the mechanics interesting and challenging. So in some cases this might mean periodically changing the game mechanics *just* to screw with technical players and break their stuff, and force them to invent something new - or introducing nuances in the game (specific to a biome or a region of a world) that would necessitate tuning machine designs according to that setting - so that a player could still go on KZbin and find a farm design they could incorporate into their world, but getting it to perform at its best might still require some experimentation and tweaking. And I do think economy on multi-player servers is important. I don't think it's as simple as "players should be able to play how they want" because part of the purpose of the software is to cultivate an environment that lends itself well to good gaming experiences. So it may be worth nerfing certain farm designs at times to maintain a good game balance.

Redstone machines are what make Minecraft great. The game is pretty much virtual Legos. That being said the developers don't seem to embrace it enough and regardless the community goes above and beyond in their creations, auto farms being the most common. But I've been playing for so long straight vanilla Minecraft in both creative and survival isn't that stimulating anymore.

I completely disagree on the totem of undying farm. The fact that totems are limited in supply doesn't make them special, it makes them mostly useless. Nobody actually uses them in survival because you get 2 or 3 per mansion and every mansion is thousands of blocks away from the last. For a consumable item, they're so rare that people don't want to lose them and would prefer to keep them as a trophy. I get that it has to be rare to keep it balanced but right now it's way too rare.

Iron farm is totally doable in a minecraft day using villager mechanics. Any other farm would take at LEAST 45 minutes to build. Basically, I dont find that overly beneficial as you're likely still worried about food if you just spent your time building the iron farm, and you would be passively getting iron while you killed mobs or proceeded to make other farms. Best bet for a fully automated world is iron farm, afk fish farm, chicken farm. From there, Kill endermen and find a nether fortress. Really breaks the game down into 3 steps. Realistically any massive technical build is endgame. None of it could possibly affect the game more negatively than duplication

I don’t have that much experience but it feels like it takes more time to build the farm (including collecting materials) than manually just harvesting the resources you need. You don’t need a chest full of wheat 🌾 or sugarcane, you just need enough to.. yes to what? Build next farm? The main objective of the game? To have the feeling that you’re economical independent is a really nice feeling that motivates a lot of people in real life. The closest thing you come to money in Minecraft seems to be emeralds, and it takes a huge amount of resources to have unlimited of emeralds. Just as in in real life. The nice thing about Minecraft is that you can do whatever you want, just as irl. Some people get very specialized, and everyone has different goals, some just waste their time. Nothing wrong about it. Sometimes people just want to prove for them self that you could do it.
