Fair play. We wanted to ask questions Brighton fans wanted answering and challenge him on a few of those statements and if you still don't agree/like them, then that's fair enough. Cheers for tuning in Chris

He seems unaware that Bloom and Barber have a plan. He thinks they didn’t realise, as he did, that buying young talent to sell on was an unsustainable model for the club. For him, Bloom and Barber operate hand to mouth and have clumsily found themselves in a situation where they MUST spend money if Albion are to survive in the premiership. He still thinks Albion are a repetition of Southampton. The idea that Albion spending the money made from selling that young talent, on a squad of more experienced players is a long planned and well researched move completely escapes him. And a couple of Arsenal fans moving to Lewes, having kids and turning up at Falmer is an indication that Albion is a non-serious small club? How does that work? It’s one way any club might attract new supporters. The non-serious supporters are those who support the big clubs like Man U and Chelsea but don’t turn up to home games because they live way outside Manchester or London and have no meaningful link of any kind to those clubs. I guarantee you, Rory, Chelsea have thousands of those non-serious fans, way more than Brighton. So are Chelsea a non-serious club? You are not a serious commentator, you don’t seem to have done the research you need to do and you clearly have not thought any of this through. You come across as shallow as a puddle.

Along with the comparisons to Southampton, the bit where he says it's unsustainable and now the club have realised it is the problem.. the club's ambitions were never to remain a "selling club" that's at the mercy of the big 6. The club never thought it's sustainable to keep selling their best players, the strategy to sell when and for how much suits us that has served us well was never the end game. We've seen the next step of the plans with the spending this window and to have Rory and others claim it shows they were right and brighton have changed their plans and done a u turn is the issue. I guess the concept of long term planning is confusing them 🤷‍♂️

@@mash83 Good post. It’s difficult to know where to start with the vacuity of this character. No club wants to lose a substantial part of their management and some of their best players. No club. He speaks as if it was an open ‘shall we, shan’t we’ choice. No it wasn’t. We had to contend with the fact that the player/s wanted to go, and we don’t want to be or be seen to be a club that blocks ambition. We couldn’t afford the ludicrous wages or madly long contracts either. We had no choice. The huge amounts paid for our assets were compensation not a transaction between equals. Chelsea is undoubtedly a big club and I am indifferent as to whether or not we are. Brighton is a great club and Chelsea is a big club and I Iike the contrast.

I am still of the belief that the "big six" are so called because of their debts and how unsustainable their business models are. Fans from these debt laden clubs will only complain about Brighton because we are not going up that absurd cul de sac.

No insult intended. I think you guys do a great job and you certainly didn’t behave aggressively towards him, and quite right too. I just think this Rory Jennings shows no respect towards the masses of fans up and down the country who support clubs with modest means compared to money bags Chelsea. In many ways I feel he represents the worst of big club syndrome - vacuous, graceless, and patronising. However it’s right that you treated him with respect. Maybe he’ll learn from the experience. And yes you did challenge him.

Well as a Brighton fan who's been away to Carlisle united thinking that's the closest we'd ever get to playing in Europe. We were told we wouldn't get a stadium we did, told we wouldn't fill it we did with season tickets sold out every year.. wouldn't get to the premier league, we did, wouldn't stay in the premier league, we did, wouldn't ever play in Europe we did! I sense there is more to come in the Brighton story for better or worse. The 1.4 million people who live in Sussex are loving watching their local club thrive. The international fanbase is building. You compare us to Bournemouth and Brentford?? In comparison Chelsea's success was manufactured by dirty russian mafia state money! You can't buy a soul and you can never be Brighton. You will never know what it's like to support a true English football club!

Rory's comments on Brighton fans and football culture are a bit ironic, considering Chelsea are the original 'plastic' club, and most of their fans live in the Home Counties and have names like Rory.

just when you think you cant like a guy any less... you hear rory jennings speak out loud. what a buffoon. disingenuous should be this guys middle name. he should have stuck to being a doctor who extra he's got no talent as a football analyst. here's the truth of it. back when benny blanco played for the Albion a certain "bigger club" insisted we sell them ben on the cheap because they were the mighty leeds united and we were just relegation fodder. one of those two teams went on to play in Europe while the other cant get out of the championship we all know which is which (thanks to them for Rutter on the cheap btw). The reality is we are becoming a big club we are getting farther and farther each season into domestic competitions, euro competitions as well. We are signing some of the best young talent in the world season after season and our team is established as a top half premier league team now. Our starting eleven is comprised of mostly all capped internationals, and our bench depth is up there with the best teams in the league. We are legitimately everyone's second favourite team for a reason and boys like rory hate that everything i just stated is undeniable fact. The hard truth is chelski almost went bye bye the last time their owner had his yacht repossessed... i mean had to sell the club for completely understandable and legitimate reasons. I'm sure given how this new clowns running it nothing bad at all will happen to them in the near future, its not like they bought everything they achieved before with dodgy roubles or anything its not like their name is written on the champions league trophy in Russian. Some of us still remember that winter in the nineties when they couldn't afford to reseed their muddy pitch for the second half of the season. actually needed a bridge to get over that quagmire, deary me. Anyway, Love the content lads keep up the good work.

Shame you didn’t push back on him saying about our culture when none of the other clubs he mentioned were a game away from non league and potentially the end for them. Had to travel 80 miles for home games, all those years at Withdean with awful football. None of them went through that

I was thinking the same thing. Brighton does have a history and a culture, of course, it's not the same as the top 6 clubs and we have fought relegation and for survival for years maybe because we are not geographically a London or other large city club. In fact, Brighton FC was founded in 1901 (123 years) Chelsea FC was founded in 1905 (119) years ago so the Albion have a longer culture and history.

Maybe this wasn’t the right forum, but it was a fair opportunity to examine some of Jennings’ more vacuous comments. Does he think Chelsea, Leeds or any of the clubs he cites as ‘football culture’ rich have few or no ‘right on, fair weather’ fans? On the contrary, they have far more. On the basis of his idiotic definition, Shrewsbury and Barrow are up there with the big clubs…..

Jennings needs to educate himself about Brighton’s cultural richness. The club existed long before Withdean and it is testament to those fans that the club is still in existence. He needs to look at the history of the fan base at the Goldstone to get a true perspective. He, like many other Chelsea fans and high spending executives, still don’t realise that it is Bloom’s data that is the key, not the staff they keep poaching. No doubt Bohley did try to buy the club and was rejected, hence the wholesale raid on the coaching team.

It's true what Rory said about culture, but it is overlooking the atmosphere that there was at the Goldstone. Third and fourth league games there were almost as exciting as they are now at the Amex. For example, every older Brighton supporter will remember Peter Ward and also the centre back pairings of Foster and Lawrenson.

How did you allow this guy to come on and give him such an easy ride? You barely challenged his numerous inaccurate assertions. For instance when he claimed that Brighton will struggle because we've lost De Zerbi and Gross, it just shows how little he understands about our club and squad. Most Brighton fans would have found this laughable, especially since we're looking at possibly our strongest squad ever and aiming for Europe this season. Then Rory comes along with such an out-of-touch take that you have to wonder how his opinions even gain traction on social media and TV. When he argued that it's unsustainable to keep replacing top players with other top players, you should have brought up the extensive succession planning that goes on at Brighton. Our approach ensures that whenever we lose a player, we already have someone lined up to step in. For example, if Verbruggen leaves, we have Rushworth and Beadle; if Estupinan goes, we have Kadioglu and Barco; if Pedro goes, we have Rutter, Enciso, and Buonanotte; if Mitoma leaves, we have Adingra, and so on. This is something we're exceptionally good at, and it's why as fans, we can confidently say that even if we lose top players, we know we have a solid team in place. As for the "small club" remark, that narrative is complete nonesense. Back in the 80s, when we were in the top division (and Chelsea weren’t, by the way), our attendances were solid for the time and on par with the likes of Forest and Sunderland. Now, we regularly sell out our stadium and have the 11th highest attendance in the league-only 8k fewer than Chelsea, I might add. Among the current Premier League teams, we’re tied for 10th as the longest-serving clubs. We played in Europe last season, topped our group, and defeated teams like Ajax, Marseille, and Roma. We’re not a small club anymore. Our squad and infrastructure are among the best, and we have big ambitions with a team to match. Let’s see how many Chelsea fans would stick with their club if they fell to the bottom division, lost their ground, were on the brink of collapse, and then had to make a 140 mile round trip to watch their "home" games. Our fans did exactly that-they saved the club, brought it back home, and supported it all the way to where we are now. The stature and loyalty of our club and fans should never be dismissed so lightly. Rory needs to educate himself before making such narrow-minded remarks. SeagullsSocial had a chance to set the record straight, but instead, they backed down and he went away feeling quite validated. Poor show, guys!

21:50 Rory Jennings "All it take is for two duds. Just two occasions for it not to work." Sorry Rory, utterly disagree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have had plenty of players that haven't worked out, but don't blame the players or the club, it was just things didn't work out. Locadia, Undav, Alzate, Zeqiri, Karbownik, Connolly, Maupay, Andone, Tau, Gyokeres, Jahanbaksh, Propper, Ryan, Izquierdo to name just a few. Where the Brighton model is doubly genius, if a player doesn't work out, it means nothing, literally nothing. If a club only risks £5m or £10m and it doesn't work out, "Oh dear, how sad, never mind!" Clubs like Chelsea or Man United that risk huge amounts on individual players, now that is the utterly unsustainable model. And that explains why Chelsea having had Roman wipe over a billion of debts, they are already massively in debt again. The "big six" are so called because of their debts and nothing else. Totally unsustainable business models.
