I agree with you wholeheartedly! Case puts out a quality, American made product at a pretty reasonable price. At their core, they are a manufactured user knife, and if someone wants to hold them to handmade, custom standards, get your wallet out and get ready to FEEL the level of “precise quality control” that you’re looking for.

Case quality is all that stops me from being a Case collector. I bought a handful of RR's because I wanted to try silly things that might ruin a knife like soaking in vinegar or peroxide. But it was a bit shocking when I realized none of them required you to open one blade to be able to open another, if blades do rub it's minimal at worst, and the overall fit and finish was shocking. The worst complaint was the black stuff that people say is factory polishing media. So I get the Case complaining when I have to resort to buying in person only. It hurts when a factory in China can pump out quality that beats the pants off a US product. I guess Case is happy with their quality but that doesn't require me to be happy with it.

Ppl def bitch way too much about gapping, blade centering, light blade rub. Blade wobble is my pet peeve, so that’s what I’m usually most concerned with, cuz I’m more of a user collector. But I get it, for what they charge, they should be nicer. I’ve gotten rough Ryders for $15 that were as nice, if not nicer in build quality and fit and finish. That def saddens me a little. If they were a little cheaper like bear and sons, I’d prob be more into them. But I do love finding an old case, that needs cleaning or a little blade re-profiling, for a cheap price. To that end, I buy most in person so that I am quality control and the seller has to be ok with me cherry-picking. What I buy thru the mail gets a once-over, but I've only once sent one back for a huge pin crack in a new knife. On a side note, I feel some of the pin cracks are caused by too stiff a backspring, so if a knife doesn't close like a bear trap I'm ok as long as I don't have to push it closed. Great video and completely agree with you! Some of that being overly critical about Case knives rubbed off on me and videos like this have helped me set more realistic expectations. I still need to get better at not being so nitpicky in my videos though. These tools are made by people, so they are bound to have a flaw here or there. As long as the knife is safe to use and functional, any flaws don't bother me. I use most of my knives anyway and the ones I don't use are because it has some personal or sentimental value and I don't want to use it (I'm trying to get better about that last part.) The worst quality Case knife I own is a Peanut in the PB and J series; the blades are literally touching the liners. I was torn about sending it back or to Case's warranty, because they had sold out. Then I thought, I want to use the knife anyway. So what if it has bad centering, I'm going to use it and enjoy it. It is part of the collecting experience looking for that perfectly made knife, but it's the exception and the reason it's sought after. Thanks for sharing and have a great day! P.S. I forgot about blade rap. That is one flaw that does bother me, but not a deal breaker.

It also seenms that Case is just fine with how things are going for them, sales are good so why would they ever spend more $ when they dont need too? Maybe focusing on other more positive aspects of their cutlery might make for more interesting content, but eho the hell am i to say? Anyways thanks for the video, im sure ill be back

I’m a very simple guy 66 young . Most of my collection is 20 plus years old. Most of which is camillus (Some of which is becker , western remington) , schrade ( mostly dad ‘s collection ). And some others.. Recognizing limited resources and room . I was afraid to get into case because of the variety.. It just seemed to be too much… I know they’re good knives. But it was just too big of a black hole that I may not have been able to hold myself back from.. I know personally case collectors and their collections are huge!! Now when I buy collections of guy stuff .. or somehow another come across a good case.. I usually trade it for something I don’t have in the line of above mentioned.. Just like looking at Jay Leno’s collection of cars .. I can admire the beauty and respect the quality without wanting to own it.. admire from a far.

Great Eastern Cutlery set the bar extremely high. Especially, with younger collectors that came over from modern knives. Until GEC there tended to be issues with traditional knives. None were perfect. New collectors don’t understand this. It used to be American made Queen/Schatt & Morgan knives that were the focus of the hate, since they came closest to GEC material wise, with pinned shields. Now they are gone and with GEC so hard to buy from distributors people are now turning to Case to kill their knife addiction need and are upset they are so far off quality wise. Really the complaints aren’t a bad thing. Case needs to produce fewer and concentrate on quality. I’d pay more for a quality knife. With that said, I like Case knives & usually buy off EBay, since you can see pictures of the actual knives. I purchased 2 in the last 24 hrs.
@doomcrewoutdoors16135 ай бұрын
@@MPerry-ox9qb I agree with you, but my point is, us “wishing” case would do better, isn’t making case so better. It sucks, I agree, but as a fan of case knives and someone who just likes checking out other peoples knives and collections, I’d much rather just see that knife and admire it for the tool that it is and not be bombarded with all the nit picky little flaws it has

You're right buddy. Case QC is what it is, and they arent going to change it cause of people bitching on their video. People need to just buy Case either in person, or from someone/ somewhere they can ask seller about the fit/finish before buying. Another thing to do is go for lightly used older case knives (80s-90s). The older ones are generally better fit/finish than the brand new ones coming out. Really enjoyed your video though. Your copperlock collection is freaking amazing!!!

I'm Irish , live in London , love case knives they cost a wee bit here but they are some of my favourite knives , small gaps don't bother me , not quite centre not a big deal , would I like them to be perfect sure would , I only have 20 case knives and have only sent one back to the dealer because of verry bad blade play , the replacement was in my opinion great , not perfect , I do have a bigger Boker collection , in the UK Boker is not as expensive as across the pond , between the two firms not sure who turns out more knives , probably case , but Boker have less in my opinion issues , gapping , blade play , transitions and Q C in general , will still continue to get Case knives ,I just love them , It is a lottery , but one I mostly win or at least break even , love your content , by the way i do get the odd Chinese knife , they make some good stuff too , latter's tatters , p

Those are some beautiful trappers and copper locks. I was talking to one of the guys with Smokey Mountain Knife Works at the Texas blade show and he said it basically didnt matter to case that much because no matter what the issue is there are more people that will buy a flawed kinife and not complain than complain. Im like you about buying Case knives online. But i don't seeing things changing unfortunately.

I don't really mind a small gap or an off centered blade or even a splotchy dye job to a point. I do mind blades rubbing the liner and big gaps and just awful dye jobs everyone should expect a few imperfections especially in this day and age. Hell my most expensive knives have some flaws you can see. 😊

I have a Case Barlow and it is nice I have no complaints on my knife. I also have Rough Ryder and Queen knives made in China and their quality and finish is even better than My Case for much less in price. If Case does not care about quality control they should sell their knives for $20.00-$30.00 not $60.00 to over $80.00 dollars. I was lucky to buy many GEC knives over the years they are very nice quality but very expensive now and difficult to buy. So, I am going to buy more Case knife patterns instead of the hard to buy GEC knives.

@@markjg2275 I get that some RR are built very well for the price, the couple I have are nothing to write home about though. The biggest thing for me, is when I’m at work or church, or wherever, and a couple fellas wanna start talking about knives, I get absolutely zero pride out of pulling a Chinese knife outta my pocket. Say what you want but there’s a certain look on someone’s face when they’re handling a nice case knife. Sure there are bad ones and case should do better, or like you say, lower their price but I’ll never become a Chinese RR fan and supporter.

@@doomcrewoutdoors1613 I agree, I just had a couple Rough Ryder outdoor series that are quite nice and Queen sawcut bone. I am not buying anymore Chinese knives of any make; I just bought a Case Trapper in Lizard skin with clip and Wharncliffe blades from Shepherd hills and I should get that one soon. I really like my GEC knives their quality is just excellent. Though I like my Case knives too and will buy more.

Meticulous collectors would have less problems buying from other meticulous collectors. I have a lot of Case knives many bought on eBay from looking at pictures of the one I bought. I send any Case knife back that needs fixed and Case fixes it. I sent four back out of 92 knives, one was over twenty years old. I figure that is not a bad average because I am meticulous too. KZbin channels pick on Case because they can. Many are sponsored or review free knives from China and other brands. Case doesn’t give out free knives to KZbin knife channels. If you buy a GEC knife, they average double the price if you are lucky to get one on a drop. If not, you pay more, if you buy from second hand sellers. There is a difference from making five or six hundred knives from making five or six thousand knives. I get a laugh from seeing the same people complaining about Case knives regularly. If you buy knives, you don’t like why buy them to complain about. It boils down to armchair experts that like copying from other armchair experts. Some knife collectors cannot sharpen a knife or peel an apple without messing it up. Case does care if you ask me because they have a good warranty if you use it when you need too.👍👍
@doomcrewoutdoors16135 ай бұрын
@@gizmocarr3093 I agree with you 💯 I said I didn’t think they cared only because they’re not really making any changes with so many people complaining, but you’re right they still have the warranty and most won’t use it because it’s too “inconvenient” makes no sense to me, thanks gizmo!

Come on man i know you saw that guys white bone razor knife review, that gap was huge even by case standards and the blade was all bent. I agree with you i hate when people complain on every litte thing but this was beyond that. I'm not american its hard for me to get case or any quality slipjoint from the Us , i dont have any other option but to buy all of them online .sometimes the cost of shipping is half the price of the knife itself so imagine getting something like that. I cant just return it becuase it will cost me more than the knife and all the time I'll have to waste on that. I have quite a few case knife i love them all even though they all have some tiny flaws i dont care and i dont expect them all to be gec quality because they make a lot more knives but i do wish they cared a bit more about their costumers because i know they can do much better.

@@אלכסס-ח5ג you must’ve missed a few points I made- I said many times that case has sent out some atrocious knives and for that they should be ashamed, I did In fact see the razor you’re talking about and I would send that thing right back where it came from, what I’m talking about is just the little stuff, and how people complain about every single little thing. That razor was terrible, I agree. But a lot of the ones I see getting picked apart are not that bad at all. That’s my point, I was never trying to defend every knife that case sends out because I know some of them are horrible
