I live in the Rhodopi Mountains in Bulgaria (south of the country near Greece) and can confirm the Pine processionary as an issue here. Nests can be seen all around the region with the dried-out dead trees left behind. In places, as many as every tenth tree has around 3 to 4 nests on it. While it doesn't seem as much, the results are visible all around the region, with large sections of dead trees. As kids in the 90s, we used to spend a lot of time in the woods. I personally do not remember these soon-to-be-considered pests. They seem to be a new addition to our pine habitats. As of last year, the Pine processionary has also been spotted in the Northern regions of the country.
