I’m the proud original owner of a 91 GT convertible. For many years, it had a Vortech supercharger with many, many other mods. I love how everyone thinks that a GT vert would never be modded! Long story, but it has a gen one coyote in it now. I have a relatively quiet exhaust, but it’s crazy loud at wide open throttle! Sounds nothing like my old push rod motors! About 15 years ago, I was out of work and thinking of selling it. My wife said no way; she said u forget whose name is also on the title. And my one son who I always took cruising when I first got the car said he would kick my ass if I got rid of it! I’m glad I listened to them.

I always get a kick out of hearing people comment “convertibles are the least desirable Foxbody”...not if you want a convertible idiots! I have a triple black 92 GT 5-spd with 16k miles and wouldn’t trade it for a coupe or hatchback. My favorite part of a drop top is that it’s truly two cars in one. It has a different personality with the top up versus down.

I didn’t like GT’s or Verts until I owned one!! Something about putting that top back for the first time and hearing that 5.0 scream with no filter will change your mind immediately. So cool to see you and Kevin cruising around and I can’t wait to see how that car continues to transform 👏👏👏

I think there are a few items in play here: 1-it seems like people are flocking to notches bc they are the lightest variation of the three body styles and would therefore logically be the fastest. 2-There is alot more involved with the upkeep of a convertible, including maintaining the top/weatherstripping, which can become expensive when they need to be replaced. Then there’s the body flex, etc. 2-It’s extremely difficult to keep one of these in good condition long term if you can’t garage it. Not to mention keeping potential “lurkers” away. I think you really have to like convertibles in order to justify the added maintenance and inconvenience involved with owning one. As a former owner of a 93 GT vert and current owner of a an 86 GT vert I can speak from experience, but will also say that nothing compares to the feeling you get when you put the top down on a nice day and listen to that V8 purr.

Actually the convertibles are typically the heaviest of the body styles. That folding roof as well as a the various mechanisms to operate the roof do weigh SOMETHING. The extra weight and lack of a fixed roof structure are two things that make them unsuitable as competition cars, but for leisurely cruising on a nice day, these are ideal cars.

@@carlosnsosa99that’s the worst thing to do to a convertible top. That’s how I ruined my top! I learned that my top should not be down for more than 24 hours at a time. Having the top down for more than that will ruin your top!

Remember when I was turning 16 my dad took me to look at my car he had got me for my birthday and first thing I said “ewww a very” and when I finally got to working on it and got to riding it instantly fell in love and I wouldn’t have to any other way! Thankful to have had that car (sadly still unfinished) I really wish my dad would’ve made it long enough to see the car done! Hopefully I can get to working on it soon and it’s hard I miss him terribly 😢

Nice video, it's cool to see a young man that is already in love with Mustangs. I've owned two FB convertibles for far, the first was a 1991 5.0 LX when I lived in San Diego. I was in the military and I loved cruising around to the beaches and up to LA with the top down. Recently I bought a 1989 LX 5.0 convertible, which I'm really lucky to have found because I live 7K miles outside the US and it's a diamond in the rough super rare here. Former US military car that was left behind when the bases closed.

Great episode I actually haven’t ran across anyone that hates the vert’s. I have a 89 fox vert that my dad left me when he passed away. I never really been into the muscle car life, until I drove my fox and instant deep end dive head over heels love. I’m slowly making it my own and every time I’ve took it out everyone compliments the fox. So I’ve yet to get any hater’s yet.

I have two fox bodies, ‘84 GT vert and a ‘86 SVO. They are each fun in their own way but I love dropping the top on the vert and cruising around on country roads.

I love my 1991 summer edition Fox...keeping it mainly stock, but dressing up the engine bay to make it beautiful, I'll add a video of it soon just to show what I've done...I'll summarize it a little, painted the intake, valve covers, rims, new sparks/wires/wire holders, egr, new rubber fuel lines, charcoal canister/lines, solenoid, coil, coolant tank/sensor, full suspension work, koni STRT/orange shocks/struts/koni red quadshocks, with Steeda lowering springs and it rides very nicely, not too harsh. I plan to repaint all the trim, repaint the white leather seats, and keep going to some car shows. It's an aod, so I have no intentions of racing it so no major power upgrades, maybe might do under drive pulleys and gears later, but I simply love cruising with the top down, for me that's what the vert is all about. I don't need to spend big money for it to put a smile on my face and I've learned to work on this car a lot. It's been a very reliable daily car for me so far (heat, a/c work) so it ain't no garage queen. I posted some new pics on my imgur, look up pavlos413

I remember taking a ride in a limited edition "7-up" promo car during my freshman year of college. All Emerald Green (including the rub strips) convertible, LX trim, white top and white leather interior, 5.0L V8 manual. Beautiful car and it was a blast to ride in.

This is surprising. You couldn't GET a convertible Mustang from Ford for ten years after the last of the 1973 first gen's were discontinued, NONE for the Mustang II, and no ragtops for the first four years of the Fox Body (by then, the Fox body had undergone its first exterior refresh with the 1983 model). Not everyone raced these cars. The convertible has been a part of the Mustang lineup since the very first one in 1964. I am happy to see that these have been in continuous production since coming back in 1983. I still miss the T-Top cars, which the T-roof option was quietly discontinued in 1988. There is just something magical about a Mustang with a folding cloth roof.

I had a 90 5.0 LX convertible but sold it because it's pointless to have a vert in Kansas. We seldom have good top-down weather. I also didn't like the huge blind spots when the top was up. I'd love to find a nice coupe or even a hatch but the prices have skyrocketed around here.

To me I love all Fox Mustangs I am a LX Hatchback man. But I am starting to like LX verts. Also the Fox Coupes. And my Dad had a 1970 Chevelle SS 454 matching numbers he sold to his friend. In the late 80's. When I was a kid. And the man still has it has it. And he ain't letting it go. For $150K. So that is why I don't have it in my garage. But I love 1967 and 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle's. Who doesn't like them. And it is also awesome to see a young guy. With a Fox LX Vert Mustang. It goes to show. Fox Mustangs are the the old Hot Rod high Boys and 34 three windows coupes. Good clean convertible 5 speed Fox Mustangs will become the collector car of the future. When the Fox mustang was being produced, everyone bought them to modify. Coupes and notchbacks were and still are the cars everyone wants because they are 300 pounds lighter than the convertible. Lets take a look at the 1963-67 Corvette for example. When they were originally built everyone wanted the coupes because they wanted them to perform. A coupe has a much stronger body than a convertible. Now it is the corvette roadsters that are the most desirable. And that is because older drivers want the open air feel of a convertible more so than the extra horsepower. Look for good clean original 5 speed Fox convertibles and you will double your money in 10-15 years.

I had a beautiful '90, I had it until around 2003. Unfortunately, I was stupid and let it go for next to nothing. :( I miss that beautiful car, but at least I have another "decent" convertible 'Stang, now! (96 Mystic, full Maximum Motorsports suspension and "modified" '03 Cobra CONVERTIBLE)! :)

My daughter's first car was a 84 v6 convertible. My wife and I drove it on a date night, and she said" I have got to get one of these!" For her 40th birthday, I got her a 25th anniversary edition 90 GT convertible. She fell in love with that car!!! Unfortunately, she passed away suddenly about a year and a half later. The car went into storage for a few years, but right now it's getting a restoration. I'm going to get it all finished in a couple of months, then mount my wife's sunglasses on the dash so she will always be riding shotgun!

I had black a 93 cobra and a white 89 GT back in the early and mid 90’s. Never had a vert. I’m actually looking for one now. Wish I would’ve held on to my cobra! It was all stock except for bbk headers and 373 gears.

I like the gt verts more then any foxbodies. Wanted one since the 90s and finally made it happen about 4 years ago. I had a lx ver 4 cyl and a lx 5.0 vert but the gts just look so much better.. only problems with the verts is getting thru tech at the track.. they are pretty cautious..

All my mustangs have been 'verts. Fox bodys, in particular, have their downsides. The fox body was never designed to be a convertible... it was added later & outsourced. As a result, the design is rather compromised. The seal at the windshield header is poor... which can suck if you drive in heavy rain. I used to keep a stack of towels in the back seat for those times when I'd get caught. The windshield header was like a waterfall. Also, the stack height when the top is down kinda sucks... but you can finesse it a bit by pulling the top out of the folds as it goes down. the chassis reinforcing could've been better, but luckily the aftermarket has been kind to us with many subframe connector packages.

My 1987 McLaren convertible is different it's a fun drifter on Sharp corners it's a heavy car cuz of the extra parts for the convertible.

My gosh to dislike a Convertable? Lol well I have to say everyone and anyone will love or dislike a car based on first impression or what that car was delivered to the dealer with from the factory. I have a 86 GT Vert with 5 speed gearbox. What else can I say? And Red on white 4 eye.. love it

We'll I can't say I hate the verts cause we've bought and sold plenty over the years... I think that it took longer to sell them was the turn off.... Other than that, they still are Foxbodies!... On a side note for Kevin..... The new name for his fox.. Blue Fox!😜😜 keep at it bud!

347 is going to be for the SSP/Coupe project. I swapped the engine from the SSP into the vert last fall.

I had a 92 5.0 lx convertible as my 2nd car, red on red with a black top. For sure it'll rise you to the top as far as street cred at your local high school. The 3 main issues/problems you will deal with #1 the weather striping never works 100% driving in the rain is a horrible idea, #2 the top will eventually stretch (i went through 2 tops in the 10 years I drove the car), #3 the hydraulic top motor, your average mechanic doesn't know how to install it.

It was definitely the CAR to have in my high school days. I have driven mine in the rain, and it does pretty well, but leaks a small amount in the middle if it's real bad. Gotta love the verts though.

I might argue something else would be the worst Foxbody. Like.. A fairmont or Zephyr.. Verts are just expensive to get back to the level where you enjoy it once weather has beaten them
