What an interesting upload, Daniel! I'll share with my cameraman. We were just shooting the Botanical Gardens here on the Gold Coast today and he is always looking for good information about lenses. Thank you so much! :)

@@DanielKuberek It's a Canon SLR, not sure which model but it's not the newest one by any means. But rather than update the camera itself, Gary says it's better to up the quality of your lenses. Would you agree with that? :)

Another question....what's it like pulling focus with these lenses. I'm close to pulling the trigger on them but I don't want a lens that can't reach infinity and is too difficult to focus pull....Looking for lenses that are great for faces, basically, but somewhat wide angle.
@DanielKuberek
@DanielKuberek Жыл бұрын
Focus pulling is a big weakness of these lenses, it can be pretty annoying. But if you're a one person band, then you'll get used to it. The quality of the lenses is worth it. The lenses should hit infinity with the correct adapter from TLS, Les Bosher etc.

Bought a 12.5mm Cooke Kinetal 1.8 with c mount for my blackmagic micro cine camera (super16 sensor) Used a fotodiox adapter. the image is completely blurry, focus ring doesn't bring anything into focus. I can see a few dark specs on the screen, and other orbs/artifacts almost like looking through a microscope. does that mean this lens is not compatible with super16, or does it mean the lens is defective?
@DanielKuberek
@DanielKuberek Жыл бұрын
Sounds like you might need to see a lens tech with that. What T stop where you using when you saw all this? Sounds like it's either an adapter issue (too far away from the flange), a lens issue or a combination of both. The lens's coverage shouldn't factor in, at worst it might vignette a little.

I heard that the Cooke Kinic and Ivotal are just as good as the Kinetal. Wonder if they would cut together well?
@DanielKuberek
@DanielKuberek 7 ай бұрын
I don't think so. The footage I've seen from both has very intense swirling - which might work for stylistic shots. And also, it depends on which format you shoot on, of course

I see. Yes. They have swirling bokeh. That's a shame because I was hoping I could intercut them. Unless that swirl was gone if stopped down?@@DanielKuberek

Do the Kinetel's have that bulbous, round look to them like the Cooke S5s?? I'm looking for lenses that are good on faces and accentuate curves.

@@bluefilmsltd I've found my Angenieux primes barrel a lot... otherwise there's also the obvious Helios, and pretty much any lens for 16mm or Super 16 will barrel if they cover a larger format like Super 35 (usually longer focal lengths)

Your videos are informative and inspiring Daniel, I've ordered a Cooke Kinetal 25mm, in large part due to your channel and analysis. I have a simple arri-s to micro 4/3 adapter but its not close to hitting infinity on my bmpcc 4k - any tips on adapters and what your approach has been?
@michaelgeelhoed4256
@michaelgeelhoed4256 3 жыл бұрын
Oh wait I can see you answered this in another video - Arri-s to PL then PL to to M43. I'm actually going to try another suggestion with is Arri-b to EF then an EF to M43 macro focusing helicoid. Will see how that goes...
@DanielKuberek
@DanielKuberek 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words Michael! The setup I currently use is a Les Bosher Arri/S to PL adapter and then a PL to M43 adapter. This allows the Cooke lens to freely rotate and (somewhat) hit infinity
