Omg the argument I need. I absolutely cannot stand those ppl who thunk high-end clothes are just expensive normal clothes
@TheFiown

I trained as a designer in London but chose to work as a draper in Paris, arriving in 1978. I worked for many designers, the term 'designer clothing' is thrown around a lot but few labels are worth this name! As you say many labels are outsourced with little intervention or choice. I know about fabric and I also know how much a garment costs to make up and it can be shocking. I Have had many arguements with designers who tried to do the wrong thing but one designer I worked closely with was Lagerfeld and he was a joy to work with, he was into every detail and knew how to cut a pattern. The last company I was director for the ready to wear and when the investors came to see the first collection they were astonished by the fabrics. I had found people who sold on really high end fabrics from big houses for a fraction of the price and although the stocks were sometimes low I only used these. It meant smaller series of clothes but it made them more special and we sold them as such. I gave up working in fashion in 2016 when it became too social media controlled with rappers and other 'stars' being given control of collection, I mean WTF ! We even had one employee whose job it was to sit and go on social media all day! Dries is a favorite of mine, I also like Marni and at the moment Dior because of Maria Grazia Chiuri who is a genius with fabric and embroidery.

Sometimes. I think there's a difference between designer clothes which are just clothes from a particular brand and designed clothes which are clothes are with thought put into the design, construction, etc. Case in point, those Gucci t-shirts which people buy just to have a Gucci logo are no relation whatsoever to some of the clothes Gucci sends down the runway.
@BlissFoster

I agree with the sentiment, but I honestly love those Gucci shirts. Do you know the story behind them?

symmetry in design is another reason why they’re priced so high, getting the prints to be exact and perfectly precise is something cheaper clothes don’t offer.

For me it always depends on the quality and the overall design of the clothing most of the times i can find something similar or more unique on vintage stores and thrift stores, i will always wear what i can afford but i can see why most designer clothes have that cost.

I'm from Dries Van Noten's city of origin (sorta) Antwerp and used to live like around the block of his main store and always got to see the collection in the stands as they came out. And i'm not particularly a huge fan and didn't feel welcome in the store by way of dirty looks but it's was still cool to see like actual crazy designer clothes just walking to school everyday.

These are my favorite episodes. I love your discussions on topics and specific garments, so thank you for the great content. This particular outfit has one of the neatest silhouettes I've ever seen! So cool. One day I think it would be neat to take a field trip with the channel to meet a fashion designer who can give insight into how they choose their fabrics, cuts, and silhouettes.

I think designer clothes are more than that. Especially with menswear brands. some of these designers have some of the best tailored/fitted jeans, pants, polo t shirts ever. Same with the colors and the stitching. (example: dyed pieces). For jeans, the washes that certain brands do can't be done by regular brands like Walmart, Target, Abercrombie, Hollister, Banana Republic etc. A great example are AMIRI jeans. Another one is Celine and Brunello Cucinelli, I think they have some of the prettiest blue jeans ive ever seen. I think you have to know which pieces are best though, like a white t shirt with "CELINE" on it isn't worth $590. (Also you have a receding hairline that looks bad...)
