For me one of the main upsides of an E-MTB is that it allows you to go easy if you want/need to and still get to the destination in a useful time. I had a pretty major rock climbing accident that left me with a bit of a brain injury and I now get both mental and physical fatigue because of it. Yes it might not be as much of a workout for me but having an ebike means I can go out ridding with friends doing the same distances and speeds as them!

so to check the conclusion you need to do this again but for a fixed time rather than distance. so both ride for an hour and a half (say) then check the stats again.

after 60 miles of ebikes on a trip to bentonville, the ebike exercise felt about as rewarding as running in place, The bike I was on only helped if I kept a high cadence regardless of how hard I was pedaling. so the only way to get the motor to really kick in was to sit and spin in an easy gear anything else just felt like riding a really heavy bike.

If you choose to push it on the ebike then the bike workouts are similar. Do an ebike ride where you push it and do the same ride where you ride it like most people ride an ebike.

I am 63, and while I like pushing up the hill on my muscle-powered MTB, I sure find the EMTB (250Wmid-drive hardtail A) reminds me what it felt (and performed) like 30 years ago, and B) sure gives my knees a rest. My bike is 52lbs and my goal is to pedal that beast unassisted, as much as I have strength to. The amount of time (and places) I pedal unassisted is increasing.

The only way this makes sense to compare would be for the same riders to swap rides and measure the averages.

The beauty of the e-bike is that most motors have variable power assistance levels… and if someone feels like being a total braggart, an ‘off’ switch! E-bikes are therefore as much of a workout as you want them to be. And I guarantee you can work HARDER than an analog bike should you choose to do so. Me personally, I’d rather do longer/farther enjoy more miles versus short & strenuous rides. But that’s the beauty of variety: you can do as much you as you want! :)

Sorry guys but wrong . As humans we will always take the easy route and yes as a competition as done yes they will be very similar but on the whole the guy on the E-bike will turn power up to make life easier . I say this as I ride in a group of mixed bikes and some of the guys have moved back to conventional bikes as they say they are losing fitness . E- bikes are very good but do have a specific place ie great for exploring and commute etc

All about the vertical steepness. I have both E and analog bikes. Analog bike way harder if you have steeper climbing routes. I can do the same loop (4k feet of climbing) on the E bike like a breeze with no resting. My body feels worked after analog bike and need recovery days. E bike I can ride every day with no recovery days.

I'm getting more workout on the ebike than the regular bike. I think it is because I feel I and go for a ride even when I'm tired and when I'm riding I know I can put all my effort in without holding back, because I can use the motor to help me back if needed. So if you ride every other day on a bike try adding an ebike ride for the days off and see how you improve. I feel like I can do hills better on the regular bike too.

I don't mind ebikes or ebikers, what I have noticed is far more wear on the uphill sections of my local trails which in the past were hard packed but are now loose and rock covered which I strongly suspect is down to the rise in ebikes. These trails weren't designed or built with assistance in mind and in my opinion ebikers should contribute more to their upkeep.

Sounds to me like it's actually just normal wear and tear then. It's just actually getting used now rather than being walked up
@derekharper60312 жыл бұрын
Not sure an ebike adds any additional wear on the uphill as they are just rolling over the surface. Unless your spinning the rear wheel which std ebikes really don't do any more than poor riding technique on a non ebike. I would put the additional wear to increased traffic
@rawmancemtb2 жыл бұрын
It doesn't work like that. Ebikes don't skid like motorbikes. Wear is the same as normal bikes. If you have more wear it's down to more traffic. Not about ebikes.

@@Tofu_Pilot and that's how I know you've never ridden an ebike before, the difference is a normal bike you will more often be limited by heart rate and sheer effort, but rarely strength is a problem, however where you have a motor to deal with running out of breath you naturally put more effort in, it's easy to keep pedaling when your legs hurt, it's not when you're out of breath, I'd suggest trying an ebike before you make any judgement on them

If instead of going by total calories over distance, and calculate by total calories over time, the ebike has a result of 13.7 calories per minute against the XC bike, which had a result of 12.6 calories per minute. Following the maths, the ebike enables a more efficient calories per hour, with the ebike burning 823 calories per hour and the XC bike only 756 calories per hour. I realize that many factors contribute here that would affect the results (fitness, body weight, age etc.).
