I'm an MSEE (with an emphasis in controls in university) and have been extremely happy and sometimes not so much. When I'm designing, prototyping and testing (basically stuck in the lab), then I'm extremely happy. When I'm working a job that requires lots of documentation, over the course of months then I dread it. Fortunately, it's been more often ups than downs in my nearly 37yrs.

I’m currently in my sophomore year for computer engineering so it’s encouraging to see my field tied for happiest engineer. I’ve been messing around with low level programming and a little PCB design for a few years now and I love the combination of hardware and software

@shatterism3329 @josedavid2203 Phil’s Lab and Bitluni have some good resources/tutorials. I use kicad for design and order the boards through jlcpcb. EasyEDA is also pretty popular for PCB design and it’s browser based

Is it safe to say that Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering is the most versatile engineering field? Since it already encompasses mechanical engineering which itself is considered the Swiss Army knife of engineering? Would love some informed and professional thoughts.
@emelineclank94487 сағат бұрын
Hello there. I somewhat disagree with your statement. Yes this is true that mecanocrics regroups different fields, but dont get yourself wrong : you are not being both a mech eng, and EE eng. Mecatronics engineers have their skills centered around a few electronic components and principles (servo, power supply, automatic control) as well as mecanics principles (simple axis rotation, simple stress analysis, etc) Especially considering that most of them will get a job that covers only one part of the degree as a company will prefer a mech eng to do mecanics. Generally I tend to say that Mecatronics engineers are electronic engineers specialized in motor control and movement. You will have a broader understanding of electronics being an embedded electronic engineer. You will have a broader understanding of mecanics being a mech eng

@@emelineclank9448i want to work with robotics and startup my own company in the robotic industry. Would a degree in electrical engineering or mechanical fit? Im thinkikg EE, and then take few classes for ME because its harder to self learn EE someone said
@emelineclank94486 сағат бұрын
@@user-rb9ed6op1k you are absolutely right! EEE will give you the fundamentals needed for robotics. Try learning mecanics using 3d printers, laser cutters, or anything that your school have. If you need anything more specific, try free online courses, or an additionnal certificating course about mecanics. Id say a robot is 70% electronics, 30% mecanics. Anyway, you probably have plenty of time. Do not try being faster than light, youll get the knowledge at one point if that is really what you want

@@emelineclank9448 thanks for the insight! Yes ive got a bambu lab printer, bought some arduino, trying to get known to some side of the mechanical side, like 3d modelling , as well as some project management, heard thats good cause most of engineers will work in team, nice to know the systematic approach. Still got 2 years before I apply for university, im spending this time to research the topics covered in EE etc, i was kinda stupid back in highschool , been a few years now so making up for lost time haha

@@user-rb9ed6op1k good luck on your Journey then! Oh and yes, engineers do work in a team even when you work alone. If you want to have your own company, knowing how to store files effectively, work in a way that can be understood by other fellow engineers, what is the workflow and softwares available... is infeed a key skill to have. Also, talking from experience: if you want to make your company. Find the right people around you. The ones that are really motivated and that have the necessary skills for your project (Either technical or commercial). This aspect imo is the one that is leading to success, or failure of your company

It depends on the field you're in, and most importantly, the company culture. You could be in an incredible field, but working a monotonous job... pay and culture won't offset that. Likewise, you could be in a great field, and an awesome job... but if your coworkers are soul-sucking parasites, constantly complaining, refusing to teach entry-level employees anything, on an ego-trip like it's their job... then yeah, no amount of pay can offset that. Lastly, you could be in a super awesome job, but it's ultra competitive... so super stressful because if you aren't the best of the best, you're gone. Honestly, I'm a Mechanical Engineer and I genuinely hate it... I'm not the smartest, I just want to go to work, do something meaningful, avoiding monotony, and coworkers on ego-trips... but I swear, no matter where I go, I'm screwed.

Fair. We tried to explain that these are just averages, and you can find happiness in any field. I just moved on from a pretty stagnant EE job and although no company/ situation is perfect, I can tell you first hand that there are better situations out there. Best of luck to you!
