I’m a single 58 y/o female and I just paid cash for my new 2020 Kodiak 201qb. I also bought the Route 66 5 year plan. Low deductible, can be repaired at any RV repair place, anywhere in the USA. I can fix small stuff (moldings, some plumbing, etc) but I can’t handle and don’t want to handle, the big stuff. Route 66 has many options to pick from too. It gave me peace of mind.

Josh... I have learned SOOOOOOOO much from watching most of your videos. As a generational camper, and having trust issues, I would happily drive 4 hrs to buy something from you, and the company you work for. You don't sugarcoat s**t and call it candy. I like that. If something's off, broken, iffy, or otherwise questionable, you let people know upfront!!!! And THAT makes the difference between Haylett and "other companies". This ALONE engenders trust for you and your company. Furthermore, until three days ago, while i was surfing KZbin for rv videos, i came across one of your "used" rv vids. I had never even heard of Haylett RV. I watched the vid and was so impressed, I went to your homepage here in Y-Tube world, and began watching ALL the videos. I have thus far, watched like 100+ videos. Thank you, and Haylett RV, for being so transparent with all you sell, offer, etc.. Sincerely, Elizabeth LaCroix, Warren, Ohio.

Josh, I just watched a video where the consumer was so happy that they saved almost $10k by waiting until the last day of a super sized RV show. As someone in the entertainment industry I understand the cost of "showing off" at a convention: Hotel/ per diem/ equipment logistics/ space rental/ etc. I think watching your videos inform me better then I could learn from 2 days of walking around a "super show". I live very near Mesa AZ, and still will come to you first when I buy my RV. Thank you for all your hard work and information. Please consider opening a branch in the Phoenix area!

Just to pass on some personal experience, I bought a 5yr contract from Rte 66. As Josh explained, they are not hitch to bumper. For the most part they cover everything but the actual structure of the rv. I had a black tank leak in my underbelly. I had waste sloshing up and down the length of my rv underbelly when towing and eventually the underbelly started buckling. Rte 66 covers the repair of the leaking plumbing joint but I found that I did not elect to cover consequential structural damage. So in short the service plan will cover the 3 dollar pipe seal and labor. Meanwhile, its on me to drop the underbelly, clean, and refit and repair the underbelly. Moral of the story, consequential damage is sometimes what occurs before you know there is a need for repair. I don't think my rv dealer explained that little detail to me.

That’s the kind of stuff that scares me, and I don’t think the warranty would cover. Yeah the cooling unit in an ammonia absorption fridge is expensive and a lot of work, but it is the rotting floor or delaminated wall kind of stuff that cost half the price of the RV that I’d want coverage for.

Yes the extended warranty is worth it. I purchased a 3 year extended warranty with my used 2010 Keystone Laredo. It covered the water pump failure in he first year and the ever expensive AC unit in the 3rd year. I paid $50 deductible for a $1200 AC unit. Well worth it!! Labor was definitely included. Just my 2cents worth ...
@JoshtheRVNerd6 жыл бұрын
TY for sharing that experience!

In your case it was, but sometimes things that go wrong are excluded from the warranty, so you need to know what is not covered in detail before you buy, also clearly has to state what happens when you are on the road and this happens, a lot of them do not cover Mobile RV Repair ppl, just have to read the fine print and know which one is worth it. Some dealers also try to make a lot of money on them, so never just except the price they give you, Josh's family business seems straight up from what I read and have heard but others are not so upfront or honest at all.

The extended warranty is like any other type of insurance that you purchase. You hope that you never need it but when you do you want the very best your money can buy...! It’s better to not need it and have it than to need it and not have it.

I refused to buy the extended warranty on my small wolf pup travel trailer because unlike motor homes there are less moving parts. No motor, transmission, slides. Yes I am aware the dual refrigerator is expensive. I can swap out the water pumps, radio, LED lights and perform most small repairs. I also do not RV full time so less wear and tear on the unit. They wanted over $2000 for a 4 year plan. The RV cost $13K brand new. Maybe if I owned a $500 K class A rig I might reconsider.

It's all relative. I think you made the right decision. There are times it makes sense and times it doesnt.
@John-vh1fk4 жыл бұрын
Same here except my dealer wanted $5,000 for a 5 year warranty on our wolf pup. I couldn’t justify dropping 1/3rd of the price of the trailer on an extended warranty. If I was spending $50,000 then I probably would have done it but I’m pretty handy and along with KZbin I’m sure I can figure out most issues.

No -- Forest River no longer offers their "2nd year warranty" because it was basically hollow and not worth much.

I enjoy me some paint chips...Are there certain components in trailers that you normally see fail first? Or need maintenance first? What should a first time RVer being looking out for? I figure that can vary a lot based on the type and brand of RV and how the owner uses it and where it is (owner experience, climate RV is in). Just wondering if there are particular issues that bring RVs across those variables back to your shop on a regular basis. Helpful video!
@JoshtheRVNerd6 жыл бұрын
If a brand is really dialed in you may see a few small things, but no major trends in failure points. Last year was a tough year for slides as the industry's largest slide supplier made some bad engineering decisions that caused some problem. That being said they also stood behind their product and corrected the problems on their dime, so I can respect them through it all. Think of people who have built brand new houses. When the house is built the contractor comes up, gives you a note pad, you walk thru the house, and you make a "hit list" of stuff that needs fixed during a shake-down walk-thru. RV warranties are sort of like this. They give you time to shake the trailer down, allow things to settle (just like a house really), and get them corrected.

Does the extended warranty start after the manufacture warranty or are you buying something you all ready have
@JoshtheRVNerd5 жыл бұрын
From date of purchase. So there may be a period of dual-coverage, but even then there are benefits such as if you need warranty service from a facility in a pinch that doesn't handle your brand of RV -- the extended contract may still be a "get out of jail free" card
@roseandmiron6 жыл бұрын

Also ask the price. You will get a warranty about half the price outside the dealership
@JoshtheRVNerd4 жыл бұрын
Price is *always* important. It's also important to note you can always find something a dollar cheaper somewhere. Extended warranties vary so much in coverage and stipulation they can be difficult to compare directly. Asking questions and taking notes is always best!

First I love your videos. Quick question . We think but cant remember if we was told that if you live in a fifth wheel(jayco) that it cancels out the warranty. Is that true.
@JoshtheRVNerd6 жыл бұрын
That's true of most RVs, though rarely have I ever seen it enforced. Jayco recently updated their North Point / Pinnacle warranties to include full timers.
@agm60953 жыл бұрын
They might be good, but there are too many exclusions and then the deductible, and if you finance the warranty it ends up costing a lot more.

Hey Josh, I went with the extended warranty when I bought my Roo from you guys. Do you happen to have a link I could download that brochure you have in this video? I don’t believe I have one. It would be a nice reference for me to look at.

Howdy Mike! I remember the name :) I don't have a link for it as it's not a document we've ever received digitally. BUT... a quick call to your salesperson is all you need. Usually we send a copy of that document with folks, though I believe if you pull the copy of your service contract out of your purchase documents and look on the back of it everything is written right there for you.

Can a warranty be purchased on a rig that you buy from a private seller? What’s the process?
@JoshtheRVNerd5 жыл бұрын
That would be an extended service contract, and yes you can. First, the RV simply needs to be inspected as most contracts will not cover pre-existing defects. After that it's a simple clerical item. Our team has helped multiple clients this way.

Josh, question... Some dealers offer a protectant for the exterior and interior of the RV. It seems to be a spray coating that I the words of a dealer, adds uv, luster, and stain protection. I assume the interior spray is like scotch guard, and the exterior spray is similar to some type of paint protectant on a car. Are you familiar with this, what’s your take, and is it suggested. Cost is around $1000 on up. If you have a vlog on this please point me to it. Thanks in advance.
@JoshtheRVNerd6 жыл бұрын
We've looked at it. The stuff can be beneficial, but it doesn't make an RV maintenance free which is the impression some folks get. Regular wash/conditioners of roof/sidewalls can accomplish the same thing for drastically less money. Basically, you're paying a large convenience fee for the freedom to be a little lazier about upkeep. That's not nothing, though. If a little less active upkeep is worth it to you, then by all means do it. But, if you can spend 1-2 hours once or twice a year giving your RV a quick bath, then you can save 10fold by passing on it.
