Yes, he does receive a private income from the Duchy of Cornwall since his father created 'offices' for both sons. That is a multi-billion pound corporation that provides an extravagant annual, private income to the Duke of Cornwall (Prince Charles). To be strictly legal, Harry does have a contractual right to that income. It is entirely separate from any Royal 'work'. My wish is that Prince Charles, when slimming the family down, will offer the properties owned by the Duchy, especially the farmlands, at a fair market value to the generations of families that have paid enormous rents to hi while scratching a living out of the most difficult industry on Earth, farming.

But the royals are paid not by public taxes but by the sovereign grant which is a percentage of 15-25% from the Crown estate revenues, the entire portfolio valued at £14.3 billion and £343.5 million just made last year, with the remaining going to the Treasury. Charles still gets revenue from Cornwall, but that is run like the Crown Estate and most other Royal estates that provide them their wealth with assets that generate wealth by production and investment

The taxpayers don't support the monarchy. That is a very common misconception. The Sovereign Grant is 15% of the income of the private crown estate. Well, I think he can never leave his family in terms of being related to them. I live in Europe and my mother in New York and my son just left Switzerland for Australia. We are all living our lives and will always be related but we do not have to live next door to one another to do this. I think, due to his high profile prior to his marriage etc (he did have the highest popularity rating), creates this massive public awareness of what he is doing where others have stepped away without a whimper. He has long said that he wanted to work outside of the Firm, so it's not a shock. If they were just a regular family, like my own, this would not have ever been such a massive public issue.

Very sad to hear the race and Diana cards raised so quickly. For me the negativity in SA was about hypocrisy, bringing their own Land Rovers over after just taking 3x2 = 6 private jet flights to 3 luxury destinations, to a land that's had armoured vehicles for years. Whingeing about surviving and just existing in the presence of her brutalised (her word sisters) showed no awareness. Their idea of sacking the official royal press personnel is ludicrous. Every single member of this family, established or newcomers have at sometime received negative press. Trying to censor or gag the media is a dangerous concept. It's ironic that he's virtually retired before the age of 40.. while his 93 year old grandmother is out opening factories. I personally think Meghan expected equal billing with Kate and when reality hit her that the firm was under current review, and they were not to be top billing, she has schemed and scene stolen her way to revenge. From my understanding of everything reported in the media these fires are not the normal bush fires that happen every year. I don't think it normal for an estimated 1 Billion wild animals to all of a sudden die. If the entire UK were burning like Australia you know damn well the Royals would push this so called "crisis" to the side and focus on the victims of such a devastating disaster. Goodness gracious its no wonder why once QE II goes to the great beyond, Australia will cut ties with the Westminster Monarch and become a republic.

Sylvia Smith ...living financially independent of the Crown should be lauded and applauded! There is nothing wrong with their request and seeing as the Queen approved seems she so agrees. Prince Harry could never be described as timid in any way. It’s sad that the Prince has found his true love and they get along beautifully but some people can’t get past his beautiful wife’s heritage. When l think of the hoopla given to Prince William’s wife when they became engaged and married, l think those fogeys in opposition to Prince Harry’s marriage are little more than bigots disguising their unfounded bigotry behind false propaganda and outright lies.
