Yes. There should be a common civil code in our country and it is possible. It just needs political willpower.

If that is the case then every community will demand for a different LokAchaar in cases of Marriage.

Manan Mehta, He is saying that there was a mutually agreed upon common civil code in ancient India with some local diversity. He is not arguing to get back the old codes. He is just saying that if Indians were living under a common code for thousands of years then why can't we live under a common civil code today ? we can. So, parliament should enact a common civil code for the people living in this land called Bharat.

The government has civil codes but, many do not follow them or even the laws of Manu that they cherry pick or interpret according to their religious or cultural belief even it disagrees with both. The government requires one to be 18 to marry and the texts state that one should be a student and virginal till 16? This is because in all cultures it is known to be dangerous to bear children before that age. Yes, in the old days a girl could marry young but, consummation would be many years away thanks to her MIL far more interested in developing her domestic skills. Manu states selling ones daughter a capital sin, yet this is common and in some cases criminal. Also, it does not consider marrying off persons who are not suitable for marriage. But, arresting some poor low caste farmer and putting him in prison only make things worst of all. No, the change comes from local religious leaders who need to understand more than chanting.
