Hybrid vigour is a silly term to me, it's just disguising the fact that the seeds have lost their vigour due to constant inbreeding. You have to be careful about saving some commercial hybrid seeds as they have been tampered with and the offspring seeds will self terminate. Brassicas are one family to be careful of in that regard

that is a really good point about hybrid vigor, what it is really saying is we bred weakness into it by removing diversity. Good to know about brassicas. My cabbage seeds from kings that I am trying to grow at the moment are PATHETIC! It is so frustrating. And that is fresh seed from them, the home saved brassicas already have their 2nd set of true leaves and are ready to plant out, the cabbages are only just germinated and look terrible.

@@FantailValleyHomestead I have definitely noticed a decline in the commercial seeds. Red cabbages performed particularly bad for me. I wonder if the seed companies were stretched from 2020 and the grades were downgraded even more. Lucky we have a wonderful community of seed savers!!
