As a new york resident, I saw the trucks everywhere. Parked in front of schools, in front of playgrounds, them playing music to get children lining up. I still see them strolling around, however the prices have risen from around 2.49 to 4.15 depending on what you get. Flavors taste very different and the quality has decreased. For instance, the chocolate ice cream was my favorite flavour, however recently just changed to a bitter coco powder taste. Truly heartbreaking, it was part of my childhood.

This is just sad, I remember this ice cream truck that would pull up to my grandparents house almost everyday, and whenever we heard it coming my siblings and I along with the kids of the neighborhood would find any sort of change to get a nice treat. The Ice Cream we usually get was $1.50 growing up which was either a vanilla/chocolate cone covered in sprinkles or a SpongeBob popsicle. Now fast forward to 2022, its been more than 7-9 years since I last ordered from that truck and he was charging $4.50 for that exact order which is ridiculous. I bought it anyways and I personally thought something was off, the soft serve just didn't taste as good or even well made as it has when I was younger. It was nice to see that truck again after so long, but it was also sad to see the once popular and nostalgic truck struggling, still holding on in this day and age by doubling up the prices.
@dra6o0n2 жыл бұрын
These days its actually easier to make your own soft serve. It actually takes a bit of effort, or you can buy a simple ice cream making machine online. The trick is to have the ingredients mixed and kept chilled, so when you toss it into the machine that is cold, it accelerates the freezing process instantly.

@Kirsten A What's worse is that a lot of times is they aren't even changing the price on the shelf. I tried to stock up on Reese's today. Picked up four of the Fun Size 12 packs. The price on the shelf was $2. Went to the register and they were almost 2.50. 20% increase overnight. So I put two of them back. Spent $5 instead of $8. And less poison for my body. Win/win Even with inflation I spend less on groceries than I ever have. I snack a lot less now. If I think something too high I buy less or just stop buying it altogether. One of the things on my list today was ground chicken. It was $3.50 last time I bought it. They wanted $6.50. I just chuckled (inside) a bit and kept moving. They can only price gouge you if you let them. I'll eat today. It just wont be chicken. No skin off my back.

It makes me angry too... If that helps, guy who said that. We had an ice cream truck that frequently came through my neighborhood as a child, and it constantly BLARED "Moonlight Sonata" and one other regular sounding ice cream truck song, but it was so loud you could tell where in the neighborhood it was and if it was getting closer or further away:) Bomb pops and Fudge bars were cheap back then, and I played outside a lot so it was AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE MEMORY FABRIC OF MY GROWING UP. So I pray kids and adults in the future will invest in their inner innocence by making an effort to extend charity and customerage towards the ice cream truck community. "Suffer with them that suffer, rejoice with them that rejoice." Plus, you can't really put a price on ice cream, or baseball, or salvation. Ya know? 💖👍
