Feel bad for these guys, I knew a guy who used to drive an ice cream truck. He was a Vietnam veteran, apparently he saw a lot of really messed up stuff we were doing there and when he got back all he wanted to do was bring joy to people so he bought an ice cream truck and did that all the way up until he died a few years back

As a new york resident, I saw the trucks everywhere. Parked in front of schools, in front of playgrounds, them playing music to get children lining up. I still see them strolling around, however the prices have risen from around 2.49 to 4.15 depending on what you get. Flavors taste very different and the quality has decreased. For instance, the chocolate ice cream was my favorite flavour, however recently just changed to a bitter coco powder taste. Truly heartbreaking, it was part of my childhood.

Getting ice cream from a van was the best thing in the world when I was a kid, but it almost never happened cuz I was always told that it was too overpriced, that we could buy an entire tub of ice cream at the store for almost the same price, etc etc. That being said, I still cherish the few memories I had as a kid sprinting to the truck yelling “ICE CREEEEAM!!!”

As an avid ice cream truck lover, this is probably why we haven't seen ours this summer. My mom gets mad at me bc even at 17 (now 18) I still sprint out the door when I hear the ice cream truck. We even keep money on our front foyer table for when we hear it. Also, I work fast food, and I know we've raised our already high prices. I mean, to the extent of them raising what our limit is for our break food. And it was chain wide.

This is just sad, I remember this ice cream truck that would pull up to my grandparents house almost everyday, and whenever we heard it coming my siblings and I along with the kids of the neighborhood would find any sort of change to get a nice treat. The Ice Cream we usually get was $1.50 growing up which was either a vanilla/chocolate cone covered in sprinkles or a SpongeBob popsicle. Now fast forward to 2022, its been more than 7-9 years since I last ordered from that truck and he was charging $4.50 for that exact order which is ridiculous. I bought it anyways and I personally thought something was off, the soft serve just didn't taste as good or even well made as it has when I was younger. It was nice to see that truck again after so long, but it was also sad to see the once popular and nostalgic truck struggling, still holding on in this day and age by doubling up the prices.
@dra6o0n
@dra6o0n 2 жыл бұрын
These days its actually easier to make your own soft serve. It actually takes a bit of effort, or you can buy a simple ice cream making machine online. The trick is to have the ingredients mixed and kept chilled, so when you toss it into the machine that is cold, it accelerates the freezing process instantly.

The sad part is most of the so called inflation is actually corporate greed. I have noticed in the big name stores the price of things have gone up but I go to stores in my area that sell local items from within a 200 mile radius and make arrangements with farmers and meat packing facilities. I just bought a pound of all natural bacon for $6 but the national brand has gone to $10 and I get a dozen organic omega-3 diet eggs for $2 so don't tell me it's all inflation

Last year I moved to a city that has a weekly soft serve ice cream truck. I had never seen such a thing. My family and I visit it every time we see it. That being said, in the past year, we’ve seen prices increase by 20% and it doesn’t come every week now. This truck brings the neighbors out to socialize and kids running down to catch the truck. It makes me so happy. I hate that this isn’t going to be around much longer.

British dude here. I remember when I was a kid, there was an ice cream van that used to drive up our main road every day of the summer. Frank, his name was. Sometimes, if we didn't have money, he'd give us free ice cream and say; "Don't tell the others haha!". He was always really cool with us, and told jokes all the time. Sadly he had a heart attack, and had to resign - but his son took over and continued the family tradition. I'll never forget that burst of excitement when hearing those chimes... And then begging my parents for 50p to get a Mr whippy Ice cream! Hehe Memories...

The price on the shelf was $2. Went to the register and they were almost 2.50. 20% increase overnight. So I put two of them back. Spent $5 instead of $8. And less poison for my body. Win/win Even with inflation I spend less on groceries than I ever have. I snack a lot less now. If I think something too high I buy less or just stop buying it altogether. One of the things on my list today was ground chicken. It was $3.50 last time I bought it. They wanted $6.50. I just chuckled (inside) a bit and kept moving. They can only price gouge you if you let them. I'll eat today. It just wont be chicken. No skin off my back.

It makes me angry too... If that helps, guy who said that. We had an ice cream truck that frequently came through my neighborhood as a child, and it constantly BLARED "Moonlight Sonata" and one other regular sounding ice cream truck song, but it was so loud you could tell where in the neighborhood it was and if it was getting closer or further away:) Bomb pops and Fudge bars were cheap back then, and I played outside a lot so it was AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE MEMORY FABRIC OF MY GROWING UP. So I pray kids and adults in the future will invest in their inner innocence by making an effort to extend charity and customerage towards the ice cream truck community. "Suffer with them that suffer, rejoice with them that rejoice." Plus, you can't really put a price on ice cream, or baseball, or salvation. Ya know? 💖👍

I hope the ice cream truck doesn't become a thing of the past. I love ice cream trucks. I love watching the joyful faces of children whenever they see and hear the ice cream truck approaching. Hopefully, the costs will go lower, and we'll be able to save this icon so that other generations of children will enjoy them as much as we did.

it was my mom's dream to have an ice cream truck, she even was about to buy one six years ago, but it never happened. probably a good thing in the long run...

also, i've lived in nevada since 2009, but have never seen an ice cream truck here. idk if it's because i've only lived in apartment complexes

I feel bad for all these people. I just make everything at home. It’s the rising prices of gas and food that’s scary. I don’t know how people eat out all the time these days. We stopped last year and only go out to good places once or twice a year.

$5 for that sandwich? I'll take it. We pay about $10 in LA for something like that.

Walk to the store and buy an ice cream. The walk will do you good instead of waiting infront of your house like a king or queen for someone to bring you one. 🙄 probably much cheaper to buy a big box of ice creams at Walmart and walk home and share with your neighbors

I see the problem with the ice-cream truck, he's not selling Mexican candy, illegal fire works, BB guns, Cheetos locos, shave ice, korn, Pokemon cards, Pokemon trading (Gameboy color until Silver), and marijuana. 🤣 good times.

A Mr Softee truck was stopped near the park at my house. My daughter ran up and eagerly ordered a cone, I was right behind her with a fist full of dollars. The person behind the counter told me that the truck is reserved for a birthday party and they couldn’t sell me a cone. My daughter cried, and that was the last time we did an ice cream truck. ( I take her to the ice cream shop down the road instead)
