From Sri Lankan point of view, yes there was one ruling party favored China over India for some obvious reasons but right now with developments and projects Sri Lanka practicing more non-align policy. Even Russia is invited to invest in Sri Lanka while USA is handling big investments as well. Both Sri Lankans and the government here always treated New Delhi as a close friend and neighbor and sure will continue to do so.

Foreign policies are tricky and complicated. Most countries in the region are economically weak and have huge foreign debt. They are desperate to get money from anyone and willing to bend. China is only willing to bail these for a price. The politicians in these countries are desperate and want a quick fix and going after Chinese bailouts. There is nothing wrong with Indian foreign policy, India should let them choose who they want and let them bear the consequences. In the mean time, India to continue to push her development at an even aggressive pace and compete with China.

As a Nepalese - u have not clearly reported the other side of story here. - India should not push too hard on its neighbors (its same feel as USA and EU pushing hard on India). There are many examples of such push to Nepal (eg. In the case of Sri Lanka it is true that India has helped alot and Sri Lankans do consider India as a big brother. I have lived in India for couple of years as a student and I love India and its wonderful people. However it should be kept in mind that many Sri Lankans also see India as a bully as it was the Indian government who trained the LTTE and armed them thus paving the road to 30 years of brutal war and bloodshed. This war drained the country of alot of lives and resources. Many of our loved ones have lost their lives in the war and have been living in fear. As a Sri Lankan, I personally like to see India as the closest friend of my country. But there have been occasions where the other super powers interfered due to the absence or lack of Indian presence. For an example the Chinese interference during the War in SL, has created many consequences and cornered the country later in many ways including the economy. India could have interfered actively to stop the violence at the beginning and could have stopped the war which ran for decades. Also if India can take more control in shaping up the economies of allies, like the recent support given to Sri Lanka. The presence of external super powers will be hindered. SL🤝IN

India will benefit from immediately switching to principals of reciprocity. India once committed to "one china policy" and has respected it since. China doesn't feel the need to do the same, and we are too friendly to remind them of the same. Indian foreign affairs ministry is wildly under-resourced. India needs at least 4 times more personnel. Apart from a head EAM, we need "junior ministers" looking at specific geos. These "ministers" need to be bureaucrats not politicians. One dedicated person for Pakistan-Afghainista-Iran. Another for Bangladesh-Nepal-Bhutan-Sri Lanka-Maldives. Another for ASEAN. Another for Southern African states. Another for Latin America. Another for UK-Australia-Canada-NZ. This will provide our chief of external affairs to have the bandwidth required for managing the overall direction of our international relations. We need to switch from "passive bhaichara" foreign policy to "active reciprocal carrot and stick" diplomacy. In today's world, you need to hammer your point home at times. Darr hona chahiye. We cannot raise even our own kids without disciplinary provisions. Sovereign states are by nature rebel in nature. When there is a lack of maturity in a relationsship we must be able to assert our right to demand equilibrium. Most importantly, no personal touch in diplomacy. Only written agreements.

I have just one very simple point to highlight as a Bangladeshi. When it comes to maintaining good neighborly relationships with the neighbors , it involves everything starting from the trade, culture, education, health,....etc. etc. In case of India-Bangladesh relationship it's always the matter of rationality, and fair practice which is always being questioned by everybody in Bangladesh, even by an illiterate person. The question is "is India fair in its trade with Bangladesh " ? Everybody will answer "No" ! Why ? Leaving behind all the disproportional trading between the two countries , starting from common international river water sharing, disparity in import-export, connectivity, use of port facilities, etc, I would like to cite one simple example here for the sake of information to everybody who is in this clip. Today If an Indian passenger takes a train from Howrah in Kolkata to travel to Agartala , the capital of the state of Tripura, he will have to board the train and stay in the train for at least 38 hours to reach Agartala , which is more than one and half a day (24 hours + 12 hours +2 hours) of travel . The same passenger can now travel in a different route from Kolkata to Darshana, Bangladesh then onward to Bhanga , Faridpur through Poradaha junction then cross the newly constructed Padma bridge and straight away travel to Comilla, Bangladesh which is just next door to Agartala.The entire journey will take only 12 hours at the maximum ! So an Indian passenger will save 26 hours and cut his duration of journey to 12 hours only ! This has not yet started , but is very much in the agenda between the leaders of the two countries to reduce the railway transit time from Kolkata to Agartala to an unprecedented short. So when one weighs the benefit of this railway transit deal between the two countries , who is going to be the most beneficiary of it ? Its definitely India. But, this is a common question in every Bangladeshis mind , will Bangladesh get the fair price of this communication facility from India ? sadly, everybody will say "No" , because they have seen India's unfair practices in sharing the water of the river Ganges, river Teesta and other rivers with river water sharing, disproportional import-exports, etc. and other deals . Unfortunately India does not know what is a fair-deal in business. This is probably one of the main reasons of India's growing strained relationship with its neighbors.

Bangladesh would be an independent country in the long run anyway, Indian last minute help intervening on the 3rd Dec, 1971 militarily just expedite the independence. Vietnam became independent with help from China, but China never talks so much that help although it helped Vietnam for 27 years. Right at the moment there are at least 2 million indians working in Bangladesh of which 50% are illegal remitting 10 billion $ yearly to India. India is always unfair in trading which is a fact globallly recognized. India is always imposing antidumping rule on any product from Bangladesh which the indian manufacturers feel will challenge the quality of their product. Bangladesh is still buying all underrated transportation products from india which are of no comparison to the similar products from other countries, but this has come to a limit now and will decline very rapidly in the coming days, it has already started. Other disparities are skipped willingly because those will take hours, one is almost zero fee transit facilities to the eastern end india but refusing access to Nepal and Bhutan through the narrow strip in the north. India has to change drastically its attitude and business policy with the neighbors, sooner the better.

Palki forgets to mention how much india has pushed its influence in all independent countries in the neighbourhood in the disguise of big brother and helping neighbours first.. note example - Sri Lanka was given loans not charity, but forced a independent country to change its constitution, by force taking over colombo port terminal for ADANI, mannar solar power plant Adani, Trincomalee 99 oil tanks and natural harbour, now targeting Profit making Electricity distribution Adani, National Milk farm Amul, historical Post office in country for india and many more, all these are forced on Sri Lanka even when there are other countries bidding at a higher rate, in the disguise of investments :) trying to colonize Sri Lanka with a new agreement to come where Indians can work freely in Sri Lanka too and not forgetting giving money to Sri Lanka and getting all the national Identity cards of Sri Lankan national to be done only through an Indian company.. ( what other country in the world do this to another country ? ) .. is this the Indian fairness ?? .. so naturally the people of the neighbouring countries are not happy with Indian government and not the Indian people... Please don't misunderstand, Sri Lanka's are happy and not jealous of India's fast development, and all neighbours will be benefited in some small way too.. This message was written only to show the general public in india don't be one sided in looking at a point like palki does..

Please, handle with care. As the largest economy in the region, show generosity. We can’t imagine our prosperity without India.As a Nepali, I feel naturally inclined to India both culturally and politically. Let every country benefit . Don’t only think of self interest. When India progresses, Nepal does not want to be left behind. There are multiple fields of cooperation but while doing things, don’t get involved in micro management. And most importantly, complete the announced projects in time. Don’t keep them in limbo. These are my personal thoughts. Definitely we can keep a healthy and warm relationship.
