As you said: feelers feel less responsible for the logic and vice versa, do you think that our personality type is based on what we thought was lacking in our family in a way? To kind of balance out our family? Say your parents are thinkers, do children then subconciously become feelers because they know someone else already takes care of 'the thinking'?

Same, when I was 10 years old I had to do some IQ tests because the teacher suspected I had dyslexia. Well it turns out that my verbal score was 20 points lower, the scores were verbal IQ=122 , performance IQ=142. Kinda a shame the school didn't really care about that so my education was kinda a bust. So now I'm a 22 year old that is a master procrastinator, and thinks and overanalyses anything and everything, but doesn't have the verbal skills or confidence to do anything with it. (engish is not my first language, so sorry for any errors I made.)

INFP here and I can see why people think we're dumb. I think it's when we get so burnt out on human interaction that we cant focus on talking anymore. But when we get going on topics that are passionate to us - we become livelier and chattier and very knowledgable about our subject. Unfortunately there is no one that is interested in the things we are passionate about lol

My daughter is an INFP and she's very smart, but she's very slow and deliberate in the way she expresses herself so some people may misinterpret. She just doesn't pop off with whatever comes to mind, but thinks it through before opening her mouth. She's very quiet and sometimes it amazes me how much she picks up while the rest of us are yacking away.
@Robidu19733 жыл бұрын
Also keep in mind that if we INFPs don't see the sense in participating in a given activity, you aren't going to elicit a reaction from us any time soon except by forcing us - but in that case you should expect a disastrous outcome.
@Rich-wi7dn2 жыл бұрын
I can completely identify with that. I’m north of 50, and I can’t tell you how many times I heard “Be more assertive!” and “You need to speak up!” after colleagues at work were blathering on in meetings. I have also heard “Wow, still waters DO run deep.” Many times after I would eventually share my thoughts. Just give us some space and time and we can do great things. I wish you and your daughter well.

I feel like I seem dumb because sometimes when I'm with people I just can't focus on what they're saying. It's like they're on a slightly different radio frequency and just keep tuning out. It's like my inner thoughts and feelings are louder than their voices. This happens more often when I'm going through some kind of turmoil. It doesn't even have to be a big thing. Just an unexpected situation or someone acting differently than I expected is enough to completely fuck up my ability to focus. This all leads me to be very aloof and weird sometimes.

As an ENTJ, I do not think INFPs are dumb, but you have to actually listen to them discuss their decisions in order to understand that often they take the short end of the stick because they are self-sacrificial. I feel they are noble, and I respect their resolve as a great inner strength and admire INFPs for never budging on what matters to them. In that way an INFP and an ENTJ are very alike, even as our choices are very different.

My response if a stranger were to insult me would be to take it very personally, be extremely hurt by it & then I will become obviously very angry, then tell them something like "You wana say that again? Were about to have some very serious problems." at that point if they continue to verbally attack me I would likely lose control of my emotions & become physically violent. Fortunately I'm smart enough & socially avoidant enough that I avoid these types of situations all together, but most people tend to change there tune when they see you are obviously angry & not afraid. I think through the matter from all different perspectives, including engaging in a rational analysis, just at the end of the day I do what feels best. For some reason, there is this stereotype that all infp's have unhealthy cognitive behavioral traits. I'm an Infp and I don't. I worked really hard to rewrite the way I think to be as healthy as possible. It makes it kind of hard to relate to all of the infp stereotype videos and comments. Am I still am Infp? Of course. I just worked really hard to become a healthy one. So to anyone reading this, if you are an Infp and you relate to all of the toxic thought patterns some people wrongly believe are integral to the infp pysche, please research healthy cognitive behavioral traits and work to replace the unhealthy ones you tend to default to with the healthy ones. They also have what seems like a near God-like ability to empathize with others, regardless of whether or not they've experienced the same thing themselves. Are these things dumb? Oh we're book smart by default AND have connections to deeper meaning intelligence. that's one of the traits that make us so goddamn unique in the first place. we act & feel like hippies cuz either said ideas are too difficult to express coherently, or that we're so busy marveling in the beauty of it that we don't bother putting them in a coherent, easy to understand manner. btw, being book smart doesn't actually have much to do with being able to appear smart. those who actually appear smart, are the ones who had the communication part sorted out, thus enabling their book smarts to properly link with expression, or that their intelligence is actually just shallow enough for them to appear so.

Going by a study on which type have on average more "gifted" people, it shows that INTP, INFP, ENTP and ENFP are in fact the most common. Simply put, it showed that Intuitive preferring and Percieving preferring people have a higher level of giftedness. Judging types, and especially Sensing types, are however usually far more diligent students and score higher on tests due to that. Oddly, the preconcepted idea that Introversion and Thinking plays a big role in this was also found to be (possibly) untrue. On Introversion versus Extraversion, it was almost 50/50, and likewise on Thinking versus Feeling, there was more Feelers though by a small margin. It's not a direct study on intelligence compared to MBTI, but it gives a fine picture. xNxP have the highest number of gifted students. That said, you could be an INTP or INFP or whatever and be a complete dumbfuck as well, so take it as you will.

I think I’m an INFP and I had high anxiety most of my life which made me appear to be really stupid then I fixed it and I outperform every one I worked with. I grew up thinking that I wasn’t that smart even though I knew I had a good imagination and was also creative until a psychologist that I saw for a while would remind me on occasion that I had an above average IQ. I don’t think people realise how much anxiety holds them back.
@rashmikotian58023 жыл бұрын
How did u get over ur anxiety, coz m suffering from the same
@Cooliemasteroz3 жыл бұрын
@@rashmikotian5802 I rectified it twice in my life, the first time I was really unwell with symptoms other than just anxiety and no Doctor could help me so I took my self into the bush and ate well and sun baked. It only took a week and on the way home I couldn’t understand why I had been so depressed for so many years. While I stopped at a tourist lookout was when I noticed that my social anxiety had completely gone and I found myself talking to strangers which for most of my life I just wouldn’t do at all, then back home on the way to work I couldn’t believe how easily I could talk to a nice looking young woman on the train. Looking back I’m quiet sure that I rectified two things, gut health and my zinc levels as I had some foods that were high in zinc and my bowel movements had improved. The second time I was in a new job and was really struggling with anxiety. I saw a naturopath who did some tests and determined that I was low in zinc and high in copper, she gave me a supplement which again turned me into a completely different person though it took about two weeks this time. It turns out that if your zinc levels drop your copper levels can creep up and visa versa and it’s the copper that causes the anxiety and even paranoia if it gets to high which is what happened to my mother. If start taking a zinc supplement be careful not to take too much for any length of time because if you bring your copper levels down two much you can cause damage too your spinal cord over time and end up with the same damage that you get from MS. After 19 years I discovered that I had Lyme disease which is probably why my zinc levels dropped because your body uses up zinc to fight all kinds of bugs including COVID-19 and it seems likely that your body will also use up your vitamin D reserves as well this why you have to make sure you have good levels of both of these to protect yourself from COVID. I always used to get tonsillitis as a kid and it was treated with antibiotics so this may be why my gut health wasn’t too good as it’s well known that antibiotics harms the gut health. I also suspect that pesticides might be part of the problem as well. So the answer is eat well go organic if you can, have some pumpkin seeds every day for zinc, don’t drink alcohol or too much caffeine and get some sunshine on your back for 10 minutes every day. UPDATE: It's been 7 months since I wrote this but and I still believe it's all true except I've learnt more about personality types and now I'm fairly sure that I'm actually an INTJ.

(INFP) I use these depending on what I'm actually doing. When I'm intentionally being more objective, I tend to use "I think" (and ultimately using [Si]), but when I know I'm using my gut, I use "I feel", especially when I know the interpretation can be more subjective, or when I'm trying to validate the other person's feelings too. I used to "feel" more, but as I've learned the differences in sentiment, I've grown to use both in very intentional ways... Was that alright? --> "I think it's okay" "The next step we need to do is... hmm, I'm thinking..." "I think we should try (this solution)" "I feel like you're really good at knowing when people are down" "I'm feeling Taco Bell for lunch" It's been a rough day --> "I'm sorry, I feel that"

As a fellow INFP, I tend to use "I feel" more because it sounds more neutral therefore I can't offend others. No they're the smartest next to INTPs because they have the ability to be deep thinkers but also emotionally and metaphysically philosophical which makes them rare people. They're the only type I've ever been able to have deep existential and philosophical conversations with that incorporate everything from anime to particle physics and religion. They're willing to participate in just shooting the breeze on heavy topics that other types can't really handle that well because it's too much information. In my opinion they're the only type that can really keep up with INTPs...I've had INTJ friends who can have existential conversations and debates but they shut down because they can't handle new information they deem inappropriate. Not INFPs they'll come up with the most interesting perspective on things. They're amazing. I love them more than any other type. I wish I could marry an INFP man. Their sense of humor is also most keenly in line with the INTP self deprecating "Eff my life" dead pan humor. I love that INTP over INFPs: "the precious....give me the precious" INFP: "Why is it always the creepers..." In my personal opinion I think mature INTPs actually try to be more like INFPs in their attempts to value and listen other people. I love you guys just so damn much. INFP's usually think too much!! Anyway, a person's type never indicates whether they are "dumb" or not. There are dumb people of all types and intelligent people of all types :) And really smart people do and say dumb things too sometimes... it is really hard for me as an infp to just have day to day conversations. i’m constantly hyper aware of my tone, my facial expressions, body language, and the words i’m using because all of those matter in how i am coming across while talking. the last thing i ever want to do is hurt somebody on accident by saying something i didn’t realize was hurtful. this probably comes from my own experiences, because i’m pretty sensitive and i often hear things that hurt even if they were not intended to. i don’t say anything to the person because i don’t want them to react like i would (if someone explained to me that i hurt their feelings, i would feel absolutely awful and so guilty and of course would apologize) but because of that it makes it really hard to confront people because i’m not sure if by telling them i will hurt them too.

Omg I can relate to this a lot in my friends group I can't talk to anybody cause I don't like small talk I do have lot of good things to say In certain topics I love astronomy and science and love mystery a lot.I believe in deep conversation rather than small talk but because of this I fell so left out from my group they often say that I am so quite. And same as you I am also very aware of my facial expression and my body language and I can feel and see if I am gonna do this or say this they gonna see me as that and then I am trying to convey myself that what others think about me is none of my business but still because I can go so deep in overthinking it make me so uncomfortable when it comes to talking I always have something to say something which is best then everyone but I can't say it because of my self-made anxiety. And the fact is I know I am smart but other don't know anything about me and then think and see me as dumb person and whenever I talk about something or give my opinion they often get shocked of my thoughts cause they think I am dumb and shy but the truth is they are so dumb that's the reason why I am not able to fit in that group this is so long I fell so good after writing this. And ye I am totally aware of my strength and weakness 😉so I can fix them and I will to all my infp friends if you are aware of your weakness and strength you can do anything you want to do and believe we all gonna have a successful life. I'm an INFP and I am in the final year of a high-level science degree. I took out first place in second year biology, first place in first year earth sciences and second place in first year biology in a university that specialises in science (among other things). It really annoys me when people say that INFPs are stupid or irrational. The cognitive functions of the INFP are actually really useful for science. You've got that strong auxiliary Ne which is great for understanding abstract concepts and quickly picking up links between various processes and functions. My Si is actually really strong too. Once I learn a fact it's seared into my brain in a structured manner. Now that I'm in my 30s I've developed my Te to the point where I can study in a disciplined manner and get stuff done quickly. Fi provides motivation (I love nature and am passionate about environmental issues) and helps with writing skills, I think. A lot of people don't realise that you need good reading and writing skills to excel in science. In short, I don't believe intelligence is determined by personality type. I think any type has the potential to be smart (assuming we can even define "smart"). Besides, training beats temperament any day. Studying science trains you to look for evidence and to properly evaluate that evidence. It teaches critical thinking and how to structure hypotheses and arguments in a logical manner.

Because the thing is... who is not dumb in this world? When I try to answer the question my mind gets to a lot of different answers, because everyone is stupid in at least one thing. So if you stop to think, I am dumb, and the real question should be: "Why these persons don't accept that they are dumb?" The thing is that some people use "dumb" as an offense. Why should I get offended to be a dumb person? If I am dumb doing something I just need to practice more about that thing (for example, ESTJs should practice dealing with their emotions because some of them are really stupid about that lol). And then you get to the point, that people don't like to be called dumb because they are not ready to face their lackings. And INFPs are really good at facing themselves, they know their good points (even if their words don't show that) and also their bad points. Personally, I am intelligent and know a lot of things because I like reading and I am really curious about everything, but I am clumsy in a lot of things, and that makes me dumb too. So basically I translated how INFP minds answer this question. Words can lie, mental process can't.
@mika4moon3 жыл бұрын
I think its the grasp of abstract what makes INFPs feel or seem dumb. Its hard to express abstract and sometimes you gape like a fish, trying to find words in a way thats would make sense to people with less abstract perception abilities. And ovethinking and overanalysing makes Infps burn out easily, which leaves them with a potato brain. -Infp

Same here, but I've let it define me for years. Now my closest friend thinks I am 1) logical (when I'm really not) and 2) book-smart but not very emotionally in tune with others. This second part particularly hurts, because I think I really connect with people's feelings but I'm unable to give practical advice or articulate the right words to comfort them. I'm scared of using the wrong words and causing an argument so I use very few, very safe words that must come across as generic and heartless e.g. "that must be hard" or "... I get you-- that sounds really tough" :(

I'm an INFP who keeps his feelings extremely to himself, feels them intensely but shares them deeply only with the MOST trusted friend. At the same time most people in my circles would say that I'm very open with my feelings, very expressive and emotive. What they don't know about is the filter continually operative as to what kind or dimension of openness I'm going to present. The filter is constantly and consciously operative no matter how spontaneous or "unguarded" I let myself seem. It's...ALWAYS a kind of calculated option, never truly unguarded. That trusted friend, who has seen deeper, knows the difference. I'm an "F" who's recognized in my immediate circles as a serious thinker, an intellectual, an "egghead," even though I never strove to make that happen and that kind of reputation does utterly zero for my ego. People actually seem intimidated by my "brains"...and I find this perpetually startling, "Wait, that can't be ME they're looking at like that...that's not who I am...and, well, I'm not really that smart...." Yet "doing the logic" has sort of fallen into my life's "to-do" bin, because it seems I can do it and, most importantly, it HELPS people. Being "The Logician" (though, significantly, NOT the final decision-maker!!) has proven a valuable contribution to the team effort, so it has been gratifying to do that. Yet there's a constant, somehow gnawing consciousness that..."this isn't REALLY...'me,' though, but alright I'll do this."

I really related to this, man. I have so many secret thoughts and feelings, almost a secret side of myself, that only the closest most trusted people know. For that, some people outside of that world think they have me figured out, but I know for fact that they do not, because I have not let them see my true face. It's not so bad, it's my choice. I am selective of who I let in, and those I let in have earned their place. Everyone else makes their own judgements and assumptions on the fly and make up who they think I am.

I've seen somewhere in the ranking that INFP is the 3rd highest, after INTP and INTJ. It makes sense because the axillary Ne means coming up with ideas and live in the abstract world, which feeds into the dominant Fi, dealing with their deep feelings. The fact that dominant introverts take more time with decisions especially via using intuition is why INxx, in general, is intelligent.

That’s called intuition and it’s part of INFP (the N). It’s actually a lot more powerful than most people think! If you practice using your intuition enough, you can practically become psychic because you’ll just know stuff without knowing how to explain you know, you just will, and then you’ll have to wait until you’re proven right. It’s happened to me too many times to keep track now. Keep trusting your gut! Us INFPs are natural intuitives/psychics! :D
