For everyone asking about the #hashhole story 😂: Back in 2020 when Clubhouse was POPPIN'. I was in a really large room that was teaching about Instagram and the topic of "hashtags" came up. I shared my thoughts on the topic and this guy interrupted me, calling me a "hashhole" because I said people could use up to 30 hashtags if they wanted to. Apparently to him, anyone who used more than 3 hashtags were considered to be "hashholes". He was rude about it but I found it to be hilarious so turned it into merch 😂😂

Hi Millie! This is how I use hashtags. I have a list of the top 20 business hashtags used in my country (which I developed after weeks of active search and observation). From that list, I work with 4-5 at a time. What I do is that daily I search for those 4-5 hashtags, one by one. For each one, I like EVERY new post in its Recent result page. Because I do this EVERY DAY, I only have to like like 30 posts for each hashtag each day. With this technique, my brand is constantly in those people notifications/brain, because those hashtags are used mostly by the same people (colleagues, as they are business hashtags). So its like “hi! me again”, like a nudge. It has many results, been the main one having new followers daily (10-20 average a day). Also, as I engage with those accounts daily, liking (and sometimes commenting) they engage with me also, making my content relevant for the algorithm. Another result are sales! And collabs. And recognition. As I sell my popcorn balls at popups and events, when they see my business in real life (most of my colleagues also go to fairs and events like me) they became very happy to finally see my products and me in person. All of that because of constantly liking their posts as I find them searching for specific hashtags. Ive been doing this for almost 2 years now and it is a proven twist on the use of hashtags! Hope that helps ✌🏼

LOVE THIS! I've always taught this as an "engagement strategy" as opposed to a "hashtag strategy", but you're right! It's totally part of a successful hashtag strategy! Thank you for sharing that here so other people can see and learn form you 😍😍

Thanks for sharing! This is so helpful. Do you also use those hashtags on your post? Or do you only like and engage with posts from those hashtags? Thank you again~

@@megababy2030 Im wondering about this one too! Please clarify @christina :)
@jackiemorrison27062 жыл бұрын
Yes! I am doing this too over on the blue bird. If I want engagement, I do engagement FIRST by targetting posts with the hashtags/content I'm going to load. Obvs I still have to make my post relevant/interesting but those are the posts that end up getting the engagement because, I believe, my post then appears to those people I have engaged with/recently followed etc. So for me, it is engagement first, then interesting, appropriately hashtagged post. Best wishes.
@jackiemorrison27062 жыл бұрын
@@MeesBorg Hope this helps - in relation to that post, here are my thoughts: The hashtags are a way of finding similar content, so if your post is similar then yes use from the group of hashtags - the best ones that describe your post that day. Engagement, sharing, liking, commenting all helps people go take a look at your own content. I do a bit of that before, or just as, I have posted new content. That way people who see my like/comment will go take a look at my page/thread and see something that's hopefully relevant to them. I have to take note of time-zones too to find out what time of day/night works best. For me it is not a numbers game - it is a "relevance" game. I only want followers who are interested/engaged in shared content. Having said that, my followers (across platforms) grow organically and my views from using Reels was amazing. I am not selling anything. It has led to collaborative creative working and I'm stoked about that. My hashtags are relevant to the community of writers/readers/publishers and I have found wonderful support, free opportunities and a tribe of like-minded writerly friends - I guess in business terms that is kind of a step of building a brand. Good luck with your strategy.
@angrylittledumpling2 жыл бұрын
You read my mind. I used to be obsessive about them, then in the past 2 months I stopped using them altogether because I was just frustrated. Surprisingly didn’t make much of a difference for my reels. I was just thinking this morning that I should look into whether or not I was even using them correctly. 🤣
@MillieAdrian2 жыл бұрын
They don't make too much of a difference for me either 🙈
@jackiemorrison27062 жыл бұрын
For me, I noticed that in choosing music to go with my Reels - I ended up playing a few of those posts to see/hear the content and I am pretty sure the music choice does lead to other people looking at other posts with that same music - so the music has grouped the posts together on Reels in a way that hashtags do in posts? Maybe that's too simplistic a way to think of it but I think that's what led to me getting thousands of views on my first couple of Reels. I had more views across those Reels than I had over all of my Posts put together. So for Reels it is possible that hashtags really don't do it the same - the music and title does?
@angrylittledumpling2 жыл бұрын
@@jackiemorrison2706 I definitely agree. I usually play my fosforiate songs for reels but the past 3-4 I have used music from reels I see repeatedly suggested to me. It made a HUGE difference! (Though I am still going to occasionally use the music I prefer as well lol)

Great stuff! I wouldn't say they're dead however users just have to be more cognizant of not overusing multiple, different AND unrelated hashtags. It's all about proper categorization of your content. Some people are haphazardly throwing off the algorithm with using 30 hashtags and many of which are not appropriate or relative to their content.

Sorry but I have to disagree. You said that quality content will get show more no matter hashtags etc. but this is exactly opposite of what is current IG about. Especially since May. Me and most of people I know who produces great quality content were completely hidden by the algorithm. Our top quality content that was getting 5-10k likes is suddenly getting 150-300 lieks. They literally hiding peoples content. No matter how good it is. Same time many mediocre accounts. Small or new got ridiculous boost around the same time. From their for years 200-400 posts they suddenly have 2-5k posts. And they did absolutely nothing for it.
