I have been in a similar situation in Australia. It's very circumstantial how people react. I was in Brisbane city and saw this guy who was just angry and wanted food. They don't care about the police, police will release them later or the next day. I was told everything in the store is insured so if something like this happens just do as they say and let it be, don't be a hero, it's not a movie and I agree he can have a weapon concealed. Because they think that's how they get it. Drugs have nothing to with it. It's poverty and they think that behavior will be fine and they can get away. Saying that I am sorry you had to face that. My suggestion is to be safe and always keep calm in these situations. I would say welcome to 1st world problems. STAY SAFE.

Actually I think you don't know Security in Canada just means if they notice any disturbance in the surroundings. He will just call 911 he is even not allowed to do anything he can just do is he can call the police nothing else.

this is the problem in western world, people do silly things and walk away without any charges because they were under the influence of drugs or alcohol. you and your friend did right thing by staying away from it and just calling Police. to be honest a person who has to look after his/her career they don't have time for this type of crap in their life.
