to make board feet even simpler, a board foot is 144 cubic inches... so a 2"x4"x24'(288inches) = 2,304 cubic inches / 144 cubic inches = 16 board feet

Explanation for #1 could not be any less clear. Which one is correct *on the ARE*? That is literally the only reason we are here.

An 8’-0” board is typically 1/4” longer than 8’

#4. The air gap is the zone between the back of the brick and the vapor barrier, per your detail. The rigid insulation is its own layer, and I would suggest not included in the air gap.

It's an oddly worded question, it should be worded as "what can you find in the cavity of a brick veneer wall?" The space between the brick veneer and backup structure is considered the entire cavity. Thus, the rigid insulation is part of the cavity (in this case the "air gap")
