Fabinho was one of the most sought after DMs in Europe. Endo has been a decent squad player for the most of his career. The two is not even close in comparison. I like Endo, but it's like comparing Højbjerg to Kanté.

It's a challenge for the Top 4. We can't challenge for the title with a fragile defence, especially as we didn't strengthen our options in CDM either. Going forward we look phenomenal, but it's almost always countered by the fact that we conceed first. However, a CDM in January could turn it all around.

@@gratefulkm Liverpool have been one of the strongest transitional side in England and Europe under Jurgen Klopp but now Liverpool defensively is struggling. We dropped 7 points so far and we are going to play vs teams tactically are not easy to beat .Could Klopp consider moving to a 3-5-2 formation for protection against the counter attack and to maximise the strength of Liverpool backs.

Why is everybody so pessimistic and resigned not to challenge for the league? Does the squad have weaknesses? Yes, but it's not as if the other contenders are perfect. People here are acting as if the rest of the competition is miles ahead of us, which is far from the truth. Both Arsenal and Man City have had worrying performances and challenges this year. Each squad has it's weaknesses, and each has its strengths, and with just a bit of grit a title win is definitely possible. We need to approach the season as a group of imperfect teams each giving it their all to win and trying to make their strengths overcome their weaknesses. Having the mentality that a lot of people have in the comments, that a Top 4 challenge is good enough and we should not expect to go for the title, will be the one thing that keeps the squad from giving it their all. Despite all the doom and gloom, had it not been for the Tottenham game we'd be tied at the top spot with 20 points today. And I'd say of all the top teams, we're the ones with the most 'tough' fixtures out the way. It's small margins, and we should definitely be challenging for the league. For me the Top Four should be a given.

It’s definitely a possibility after both games yesterday. 2nd in the Super League on goal difference and 4th in the Premier league, just three points off top spot. It’s early days yet but hopefully both first teams can have a really good run. Huge week for Liverpool this week with Leicester in the League Cup Group B on Wednesday and Everton in the Derby at Anfield on Sunday. YNWA

Seems like we have the same problem as last year. The defense. We have stars there, really good players, but it seems to leak in goals. I don't know if zonal marking is the way to go. I would be surprised if we'll reach top 4 this year. I don't understand the talk about us being title contenders. We've been lucky quite a few matches this season, and if we are going to let 1-2 goals in every match, things are going to get rough. It is also going to take a toll on the players in the long run. Endo and Mac Allister haven't really impressed me so far.

Absolutely agree. I believe the new midfielders we have are the best midfielders Klopp has ever had but I dont believe theyre the right mix of midfielders. Mac isnt a 6 for example, nor is Gravenberch of Szob. Endo is, but he so far perfectly matches all of his 16mil price tag where we were crying out for a worldie no6. Typical Liverpool last minute half-arsed purchase. Either Rice/caceido/ Lavia wouldve been an epic combo with Szob & Mac and Gravenberch too (as an alternative.)Way better balance. For me, the midfield is still NOT sorted. Missed the boat as per usual.

The biggest difference I'm seeing is that we appear to have a number of options throughout the team. It seems that Klopp has a masterminded a new brand of total football using the squad and the 5 subs to tactically switch things up at any point of the game

I think Gomez has been doing well lately but his form does go up and down. But I am stoked with how the season is going so far (besides the last two games) makes it worth getting up at 2am on a Monday before work here in New Zealand

Interesting debate. This illustrates how important Jones now is if Mac's in the 6. For me try Endo in the 6 with Mac & Szob as the 8's while Jones is out. Endo allows Mac to play his natural game so we need to give it a go as if we don't play Endo we'll never now & he won't improve.

I imagine Endo will be adjusting because Stuttgart played a very different style and will need time to react instinctively. Mac Allister played in a more similar system at Brighton and has had a full preseason (plus is probably the better footballer). Endo might not work out but it's no surprise hes not played much yet.

Mac lacks recovery pace a few times now players run past him. Chris says give him time that won’t come with time (pace) in this squad at the moment jones is actually our best 6 but then u lose his pressing as a 8. We needed a specialist 6 young, athletic

Someone like Bajčetić? I agree with you. Macca isn't speedy enough to play in that role, neither was Fabinho, but Fabinho had the defensive mindset built in him. Macca doesn't as it's not his preferred role. So in theory, we need someone like Kovačić / Kanté?

I totally disagree with your take on Endo. He is significantly better than Mac Allister in the 6 role, and it's not even close. You saw it against Leicester, you saw it second half against Lask, we even saw it against Union bar ONE ball that got stuck between his feet. He reads the game in that position so much better than Mac Allister, knows how to keep things simple, harries and harasses attackers, is consistently in the right position to at least tip a pass away from danger. He's captain of a solid Japanese side and lauded across the Bundesliga as one of their best DMs. What he needs with us is a run of games, playing so Mac Allister can move further forward. Klopp is making a huge mistake not playing him and our consistently shipping early goals shows that.

Hopefully we're challenging for top4. From what Ive seen so far we're not settled or solid enough in midfield or at the back to be serious title challengers. Yes weve done well so far but there are still one or 2 signs that weve still not shaken off the errors of last season. Whats that? 6 games where weve conceded first? Thats not right at all. I think this season is about getting consistency and hopefully having a stab at the title next season.

Weird takes on Mac by the lad here on the left. He's come straight into a new team, new position and we're sitting a few points off first place. I think he's doing an amazing job. Looked slightly leggy but that's fitness from playing so much in the last few months. He was fed a hospital pass for that goal by vvd meanwhile everyone is obsessed with Gravenberch who missed an open goal. Sometimes lfc fans can be so negative. Boring. Mac's great.

To challenge for the title Liverpool need a strong and physical DM, a good back up rw player who can come on and change a game cos Doak needs a loan. The defence needs to tighten up and keep concentration and work as a unit, conceded too many silly goals.

Top four at a push. We pick up red cards for imaginary contact eg Jota. We have played games with ten and nine men which will take a toll physically. This showed against Brighton who are poor this season but more than matched us. Clearly the international break is another chance to hit us as we were guaranteed an early kick off . You have to be near perfect to win the league and we are far from that this season.

If the coaching team need to analyze how to get the best from VVD, they need to study the Celtic model. I think the frustrating thing is that Man City have lost their last 2 games and in typical Liverpool fashion we have only managed to pick up 1 point in that time😂😂 Ultimately our next 4 games are very winnable and I’d expect us to win them and go into the City game at the Etihad full of confidence!🙌 In the grand scheme of things I think this team is ultimately a top #6 away from really winning a league but I have a sneaky feeling we’re gonna win both the league cup and Europa league

We struggled beating a Brighton that lost a majority of their best players this summer (not downplaying current Brighton btw), so I'm not very positive to that. Leaky defense, injuries are starting to set in again, etc. Tottenham is one of many teams we need to beat to get on top. Man City, Arsenal, Man Utd, Tottenham and Aston Villa is going to be difficult to beat this season, so we will see.
