Do you use OpenCL or Metal option when using hardware encoding?

Wait. The upport document says regarding AMD, only the Vega Pro models work, but yours is not a pro model.

Hello, I have a 16” MacBook Pro 5500M 4GB, 16gb ram / 1Tb running premiere pro 14.3.2. I can only export VBR 1 pass with hardware encoding acceleration turned on. No CBR and no VBR 2-pass. Is this a bug? I really need hardware CBR encoding enabled
@DanielRodriguez-fg5ll4 жыл бұрын
wait, what you mean you had hardware encoding in the previous version? the whole point of the 14.2 is that it allowed hardware encoding of H264 and H265, so I think your first hardware encoding test were bound to have null effect. but the second part of the video is useful. I think that part of what you are identifying for eGPU gains is due to thermals, as the internal GPU is not working, the CPU has more thermal room. Also it is a bit important to note, you did the test with an external monitor (correct?), an eGPU with the laptop screen is not as useful.
@AustinNewman4 жыл бұрын
Yes, hardware encoding was an option for Mac Users in the previous version of Premiere - only through a VBR 1 Pass as well. The eGPU gains could be due to thermals. And yes, the eGPU is always used when connected through an external monitor.

Hi Austin, how about H.265 files from your XT-3. Does the update have an effect on those files too? also, is the AMD card you are using included in the list from Adobe? Thanks
@AustinNewman4 жыл бұрын
The h.265 files actually impressed me witH even the last version of Premiere! Smooth playback at full resolution in timeline on my macbook and the files were filmed at 400mb!

Hi Austin, Great comparaison I don't know too much in Egpu but I'm might considering getting one. Do you think using Nvidia graphic card in the egpu could be a better solution?

Rafał Gelzok I m a Mac user. Does it work with nvidia graphic card?
@AustinNewman4 жыл бұрын
@@robinryck2384 Hi Robin! I did a ton of research when I initially started working with my eGPU and my Macbook and from I heard, Nvidia and Apple do not work well together as Apple uses AMD graphics in their machines. If you are looking to go the eGPU route, I would recommend and AMD card with a Mac (as long as your mac has the ability to work with an eGPU as some older models do not work if you don't have USB-C connections. Here is my video I made when I first built my eGPU as well as some things to consider before going that route: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJyZdKhofs58jrc

This video confirmed my theory of how would the AMD GPU's work with the 14.2 update. Great Video! Thanks.
