No mormons are not christian...they believe in exaltation,they do NOT believe God is eternal,they believe he was a human that became a god. They believe Jesus is not his only son and that mormons who are devout become God's..if you want to believe that that's all well and good,but don't claim it is christianity when it is fundamentally differrent.

The God Head is Jesus Christ, God the Father, and the Holy ghost. Restoration means to return something that was lost. And because we Believe that the true Gospel of Jesus Christ, was lost with the Great apostasy, (when all the apostles of the church where killed over around 2000 years ago) it needed to be resorted to the World. So the information about the God head was restore to human knowledge, with the restoration of the Church and fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

(KJV) Jesus Christ HIMSELF called Elder Holland to be an Apostle in His church. Be careful what you say and whom you accuse of NOT having been "saved", or you might be found even to fight against God (Acts 5:38-39). Elder Holland was the President of a prestigious Christian University for many years before he was called BY GOD to be an Apostle. He studied the scriptures often. We chose his plan and sided with God the Father in coming down here to be tested and prepared for the world to come. I'm sorry to those who hold this religion close to their hearts but Mormonism is not Christian. Mormonism has a different godhead, a different Jesus, a different way of being saved and a different way and plan of salvation (they believe in exaltation) than Christians. Mormons do not use the terms: Saved, Born-Again, Good news or grace. You'll never find a cross in their church or on the outside.. This is why it is NOT christian. It cannot be christian if It teaches different gospel than Jesus did. Mormons are wonderful people. I have no grudges against them, their hearts have good intent.

And yes, you'll NEVER find a cross on our church buildings or temples; we don't worship the cross, which was an instrument of exceeding torture and humiliation that was used to murder the Savior. There's even a song "When I Survey the Wonderous Cross." NO! We worship the risen Christ, the Living God, and the Holy Ghost, not the cross, or Mary, or the early Apostles. And haven't you ever wondered if members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints get tired of the trolls who judge and mock and excoriate the church they don't even know?

@deadpalette Only Jesus Christ Himself can forgive sins. The way we do this, is we either Pray and ask for our sins, but if it is serious enough, such as fornication, we go to our Bishop. An LDS Bishop is much like a Catholic Priest in His ministry. Through the Bishop, we receive instruction, and through the power of discernment, we may receive forgiveness. We are not forgiven BY the Bishop, only through the Bishop.

@smooretogo A Mormon's sins are forgiven through the blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus suffered in their place as a substitute for the Judgement upon them in the Atonement. To access His Atonement, one must repent of their sins and have them washed away through water Baptism. Having been cleansed of sin, they can receive His Spirit through the Gift of the Holy Ghost. Every Sunday they take the Sacrament (communion) to reapply that cleansing process made effective through baptism.
@nintenjo6
@nintenjo6 11 жыл бұрын
@Caleb, we call ourselves Christians because that's what we are. Everything we have is centered around the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His Atonement is how we can get back to our Heavenly Father. What is the gospel? The gospel isn't a book. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John aren't the gospel, they teach the gospel. What is the true gospel of Jesus Christ? The answer is simple: faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism by immersion for the remission of sins, receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end. That is the gospel. I see you don't understand why it had to be restored. After the Apostles were off the earth, true Christianity as Jesus Christ set up ended. This is because people rejected the Apostles, revelation, the true nature of God, and many other truths. Baptism was changed to sprinkling, some teach baptism doesn't matter. Other ordinances were changed as well. When the Apostles weren't on the earth, neither was the presiding Priesthood authority of God. Nobody had the authority to make any changes to doctrine. When one looks at today's version of Christianity found in the Baptists, Lutherans, Methodists, all other Protestants, Catholics, and all other non-LDS churches you will see that this form of Christianity differs from what the Savior set up in His original Church found in the New Testament. Many people use the argument "you're saying Jesus was wrong." That's not it at all. He has always been right. Man, however, does not have the same track record. Again, these changes and false doctrines found in other churches come from men and by creating such things, they distorted the true gospel of Jesus Christ. Yes, Jesus is God. We agree with that. We know that He is the same God with whom the children of Israel had to do with in the Old Testament. He is the Great Jehovah among other many and marvelous great names He has been given. I look forward to the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Caleb, because The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is Jesus Christ's church, the Church IS the bride Jesus will come for. I also notice you left out the name of the Lord in His Church. Why can you not call the Church what He has declared it to be? Ultimately it all goes down to the Book of Mormon. Read it. Ponder its teachings. Pray about it. Follow James' counsel and "ask of God, and it shall be given [you]." Do so with an open heart and an open mind. Ask in faith, nothing wavering. If the Book of Mormon is true, the Gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored in its fullness. If the Book of Mormon is not true, this church would be a fraud. At the same time, if that is the case then there would be no true church upon the face of the earth and the gospel would still be lost.

I respect the conversion story of this man from Catholicism to Mormonism. The question of whether LDS are Christians was settled in the statement that every priest traces his priesthood to Jesus Christ (in the order of Mechelsidek). However, Christians do not consider themselves priests. The New Testament declares Jesus Christ our High Priest, the sacrifice, etc... Christians share the good news of salvation through Christ. Alma 7:10 says Jesus shall be born in “Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers." This verse is proof of the divinity of the Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith knew Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Yet Alma, the author of this verse, lived 80 yrs before Jesus’ birth and may not have known the exact city. In the Old Testament, only Micah prophesied Jesus would be born in Bethlehem. There is no indication Alma knew of Micah’s prophecy. For Alma, "the land of his forefathers" was known as Jerusalem.

The priesthood is not so much an honor as it is a responsibility. As an LDS woman, I have no desire to hold the priesthood. I have enough responsibilities without it. Also, it has always been my opinion that the men of the church need this responsibility in order to remain faithful, because without it their focus would be on other aspects of life. The priesthood makes them accountable to do good things to bless the lives of others. Most women do this without needing it to be an official duty

Ask your Christian friends for 2 things--a definition of what they think a Christian is, and (2) a list of which churches fit the definition. Then look up Filioque and see if it's in their definition or not. Doing those 2 tasks is more difficult than they imagine, but it's crucial to their point to rescue their argument from fatal inconsistency. If you can't take someone's word for it at face value, it's best to just let God decide who is a Christian (Bishop Edgely).

As a "Christian" I say it is to solely follow the Bible's teachings and to accept Jesus Christ as our one and only savior (meaning that believing that Jesus died for our sins is the only way to heaven and there is nothing more for us to do). Definitions don't necessarily matter if the teachings in the Bible itself conflict with the Book of Mormon directly. Even dispensationalist teachings do not allow the Book Of Mormon to be added as a holy text on top of the Bible

I don't understand how you can call yourselves Christians. First off the idea behind the "restored gospel" is not correct. What is the gospel? Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John. These four books wrote down what Jesus did and said. So the idea of a restored gospel is saying Jesus is imperfect in his teachings and had to revise them. Jesus is God, and God is Perfect and Just. When Christ comes to receive his bride, it will not include the Church of Latter Day Saints.

Politely disagree. You can have your own opinions though! :) There are actually many scientific evidences on the proof of the Book of Mormon, a simple google search can help with that. Movies and other media can make you feel inspired and maybe even spiritual, (I have definitely felt this before) but scripture is the best place to feel inspired in a spiritual way.

The above quote is from that version of the Bible. Probably all of the New Testament Apostles had wives and children.

This is just a testimony... him saying that “we are Christian” doesn’t mean you’re actually a Christian. What Christians and Jesus taught was that he was God come down in flesh. That’s what Christians believe. Mormons believe that Jesus and God are separate HUMANS exalted to God. This is not Christianity. The belief of a heavenly Mother, Father, and Son is simply old pagan beliefs brought up time and time again in different religions. Joseph Smith was an evil man. It’s sad to see him deceiving people years and years later.

@Jason, thanks for your thoughtful question. We believe that when Jesus was on the earth, He called twelve Apostles and gave them the priesthood, God's authority. After the Savior's death and resurrection, Peter and other Church leaders were rejected and killed, and key teachings and this priesthood authority were lost from the earth. Then, in 1820, God and Jesus called a new prophet named Joseph Smith to restore the Church, its true teachings and the priesthood that had been lost. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Jesus Christ's restored Church. We believe God has called living prophets to guide us today. I am a Mormon for many reasons. One I always felt that the god head was three different people but one in purpose because Jesus in the bible said his father, meaning other than himself. And he prayed to god and god answers him. And the Holy Ghost comes to him in a shape of a dove. I do not believe Jesus the only begotten was and or is a liar or a crazy man that could summon animals and do really good ventriloquism. I believe in him and I believe him.

Tina Klein I know that this is an extremely old comment but I would like to inform you about something. From all of my interactions with Mormons, this is basically the same thing that y’all all say about the doctrine of the Holy Trinity. Let me explain. The Holy Trinity is this, One God in the Divine Nature of three coequal, coeternal persons. Which is best defined in the word Godhead. The word Godhead is defined as, 1. God and 2. Divine Nature. So the definition of the Godhead is the Holy Trinity. One God in the Divine Nature of three coequal, coeternal persons. And something else. They are not the same person. They are one in being and three in personage. They are one in every way except for their personages. If you don’t understand, then I would encourage you to look up the differences between person and being. If you ever see this comment have a great day, and happy New Year 2020!

My question is how exactly did Jesus apostles pass down their holy priesthood to Joseph Smith in the 1800's? I have never found any proof of this kind of power anywhere in the Holy Bible. Even people like Timothy who worked with Paul closely never was given this kind of position. I am asking not as someone bashing the Mormon faith, but as a fellow follower of Jesus; which is what matters. The recognition of the work of the cross is the most important thing for being saved. God will not discard you because of a few man made beliefs. I just would like an answer on how the true apostles of our Lord and Savior Yeshua Messiah Christ Jesus passes on this authority.

NO they are NOT CHRISTIANS!! A Christian is not merely a person who believes in Christ. It's much more than just that. If Christianity was actually defined as the beliefin Christ, then that would make seitan the question because he knows that Christ is real and he believes in him. A Christian is a person who believes that; God created the heavens and the Earth. God sent his one and only son, Jesus Christ, to earth. He was born Virgin Mary and is the messiah. God, and Jesus, and the holy spirit are the Holy Trinity, the Father, the son, and the holy Spirit. This means that they believe that Jesus is God and God is Jesus and that they are the holy Ghost. The Holy three in one. Jesus died in the cross for our eternal salvation and forgiveness. He then descended into hell, was Brought back from the dead, and ascended to heaven. Christ will return on the the Day of Judgement. This is the day of salvation of the faithful, who will have eternal life in heaven. Christians must believe all of these things if they are truly a Christian or otherwise they are not Christians.

Hi Valerie, thanks for tuning in to the video. We respect you and what you believe, and we ask for that same respect in return, even if we don't agree. To clarify, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints unequivocally affirm themselves to be Christians. We worship God the Eternal Father in the name of Jesus Christ. When asked what the Latter-day Saints believe, Joseph Smith put Christ at the center: “The fundamental principles of our religion is the testimony of the apostles and prophets concerning Jesus Christ, ‘that he died, was buried, and rose again the third day, and ascended up into heaven;’ and all other things are only appendages to these, which pertain to our religion.” Many of the arguments you list above are examined at the link below. We invite you and others to review the link and become more educated about what we believe. www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics/are-mormons-christian?lang=eng Have a good day!

Men are highly encouraged to be missionaries. With women, it is mainly their decision on whether or not they want to go, but recently more and more women are deciding to serve. Women must be 19 to be a missionary. Like with men, women start prayerfully, asking their Heavenly Father for guidance on what they should do, when they should go, if they should go. The only requirements is the money to get by without a job for 2 years (18 months for women mostly) and a will to serve. There is a conduct you have to follow or you will be sent home. You can choose to go home at any time for health or family reasons. Thank you for your question about our beliefs!
