Looking at a few older 1/2” drive sockets from SK. Can/should I warranty or restore them?

That cracked socket was used with an impact gun, look at the 1/2 inch drive side of it.

I just saw the Wranglerstar video right before seeing yours and I really look forward to seeing you refurbish these sockets. I hope that there is still USA made SK tools to replace our warranted tools. Man I really used to love SK tools.

I have several entire sets of vintage Snap-On and Mac sockets that I've restored. And I really like the older sockets with flat, heavy bases and no chamfer - I have a set like that of 3/8" Britool (formerly a top UK brand, now sadly declined), and they fit really firmly onto a ratchet, no sideways play at all.

I found put some flitz on a rag and put the socket on a drill with adapter and clean it up husky was a rebrand a sub brand from New Britain tool company

When I go to garage sales I often look for USA made sockets especially estate sales you can come across them and get them for cheap since estate sales don't really know how much USA made tools cost.
@dickjohnson78452 жыл бұрын
Same here. Look for any old USA made tools. The steel is far better quality in the older tools.

Those Husky USA tools are well-built. If you come across any sockets, wrenches, or ratchets that say "USA" I'd suggest buying them up!!

On sk website it says it will not warranty regular sockets that show use in impact guns ( the rounded corners). If there is a Grainger near you, they used to be able to exchange sk, don't know about now

The nicest socket I own was made by Owatonna Tool Company (OTC). I bought it for one job in the early 1960s. I never hear anout OTC on these tool channels. I don’t think they have made sockets in a long time. Now they are owned by Bosch and only make specialty tools.

I have an old 1/2” drive 1 5/16” SK chrome socket with those same type of cracks but mine has about 5 of them and i still use it because the cracks aren’t all the way through also

Used to love SK. Decent tools. Few years back I sent in some sockets with chipping chrome and were replaced no questions. Now I recently purchased off their website, received wrong item and they won’t even reply to my email for correcting their error…they did reply when my second order of correct item shipped weeks late requesting tracking…But never offered a refund on the first or even price difference correction. Pretty disappointed when the same email could have corrected both requests.

That is a damn shame. I completely agree with you. SK used to be very special and now it’s just a long list of American companies that sold to China. This is what happens when you have a government that does everything to incentivize the making of products in China instead of in the good old USA. I don’t mean to be political but the truth is the truth. Keep up the great work brother!

I have a pending warranty request (via online form) thru SK's website. I submitted it about three (3) weeks. No contact received what so ever, not even a confirmation email, so I don't know if they are didn't get it/ignoring it/holding it/etc... I would try to see if Grainger would warranty them out. I have done SK warranty thru them for company tools in the past, but our company also has an account with them (the tools were not necessarily purchase from Grainger).

There is a note on the top of the web-site home page: in short they are not shipping until sometime in March! So, I would guess warranty claims would not even be looked at until then ????

@Midwest Tool Review. Just subscribed having found you from Robert's @Tools with SoAlz livestream last Sunday. Quick question: Are those sockets from your everyday use or are they from estate sales you found them at? Hope you and your family stay safe and well.
@MidwestToolReview2 жыл бұрын
I bought these along with a bunch of other tools. Not an estate sale, but certainly second-hand
@ccadama2 жыл бұрын
@@MidwestToolReview Thanks for replying. I'd like yo see how you will restore and your experience exchanging those sockets. I saw someone commenting on the #Wranglerstar short that he was removing the chrome from his Snap On socket thus reducing their value. I think Cody was more interested in keeping his tools cleaner and possibly as a heirloom like you. Hope you and your family stay safe and well.

Sk isn’t really that bad, there’s a lot of stuff on back order, sadly they dropped their 3/4 line and I have a bunch of 3/4 drive stuff that needs to be warranted but sadly I can’t

Old husky brand USA made sockets were first new Britain made and before they became Taiwan and China made i believe it was Armstrong made some of their tools it may have been their wrenches,, not sure and honestly sir that would be great idea for a video maybe since you have so many newer subscribers showing some of the tool boxes like your two favorite krl series snap on boxes you restored or talking about them, they were great videos back then even

Looks like it was used on an impact. LOL I have the same SAE Wright impact set on the same Hansen tray in the *same spot* in the same drawer of the same toolbox!

I wouldn't trust that sk socket on a gun maybe by hand, I dropped a fair on sk last before the sale out so sad, I'm gonna switch over to Wright for my snap on alternate brand especially on impacts

Going to start restoring old American tools and vises. At the moment I'm getting my work area set up for it. Until its complete, I've been buying up American made tools as I run across them, especially bargain deals from people who just want it out of their garage, shed, barn. Screw that China made garbage
