Pro Mountain Bike racers & riders across all disciplines have top-end bikes, we all know that! However, nowadays you can buy some pretty incredible bikes just off the shelf, so whilst Rich Payne was out at the first round of the EWS in Tweed Valley Scotland, He got to thinking - Are Pro bikes any different to yours or his?

"Necessity is the mother of all inventions," the adage states. In my view, it's always of question of satisfying specific needs of one user (pro or not) so that he/she can make the most use out of the bike. If it necessitates to put this or that on a bike so to increase the potential of a biker, say, on winning a race, then it's a necessity to put it on the bike. Lots'a love, cheers, & Mabuhay, from tropical Philippines! #KeepBiking

Interesting to see some diversity in the setups. 29 vs. mullet and coil vs. air. Seems like the actual enduro racing requires quite much more nimble bike than what most manufacturers try to sell as a enduro bike.

Yep a good suspension tune can make a value bike into a great bike and bad one can make a top of the line dream machine ride like crap on a cracker. Buying the correct coil for your shock or setting the correct air pressure is critical but don't forget to adjust your compression and remound damping too. If you race making adjustments for the tracks will be real advantage.

I might be wrong but i tend to think the biggest differences in standard bikes vs pro bikes would be seen in UCI Downhill, & freeride comps like DarkFest or Rampage, or in Crankworx Slopestyle.. Still cool to see all the details though..

@TheNotoriousMIC
@TheNotoriousMIC 2 жыл бұрын
@@mrvwbug4423 doesn’t make any difference. You have more control and better feel with smaller rotors. It’s better for braking over rough loose ground and you’re never really braking hard or coming to a full stop at this level just scrubbing speed so power isn’t a massive requirement so bigger rotors are unnecessary for quite a lot of people. All personal preference though.

I think one key difference in terms of an off the shelf, top end enduro bike, and one run by a race team, is suspension tuning. They have every aspect of the suspension optimized for them more so than adjusting a few dials, changing the amount or weight of oil in the lowers, and adding or removing volume reducers could do.

I see mtb’s as dirt bikes baby brother. They pretty much dirt bikes without engines. I ride and follow MX, stock dirt bikes are more than enough for the majority of people so what’s the difference between a stock dirt bike & a factory one? The engines will be tuned to the riders style, parts that are unavailable to the general public. Same with the suspension, brakes & even the handlebars & foot pegs will be tailor made. A lot of the stuff will be handmade like foot begs & triple clamps. These bikes are a work of art. It’s no different in the mtb world, component’s are tailor made for the rider & some stuff isn’t available to the public (yet).
