Where can you find old fantasy models? Because I've checked almost all games store and hobby shops/ collectors. I've never found a single one who sells fantasy and Ebay is just a scalpers paradise, 300$ for a single dwarf hammer.... I live in Canada btw, and suggestions?

@@battleshipman56 if eBay isn’t working for you then definitely check out the buy/sell/swap Facebook pages for Warhammer. You can post for stuff you’re looking for and someone might have it, as well as a ton of sales going on all the time. Otherwise do a search for what you want on eBay and save that search to notify you when something pops up in your price range, that way you can get a notification when there’s something you might actually want to look at instead of wading through tons of stuff you definitely won’t buy. I painted a lot of metal D&D models before I started on Citadel miniatures. To this day my favourites from the metal era are my Grey Knights, Inquistitor double blister pack and my Terminator box set. I look at the painting on the models and think, yeah I could do better now, but the fun I had painting them is second to none. Thanks!! I never let my sonic cleaner go above 55*C, and that's pretty hot. Even then, I've never had any issues with melting plastic or resin before. Resin can get a little bendy at higher temps, which is usually a good thing because I can bend pieces and cool them back into their proper shape, but that's about it. It would take some serious heat to melt the polystyrene plastic that GW makes their models out of so I wouldn't worry about it too much in the sonic cleaner. Hope that helps!

I find the modern plastics very lively and characterful personally, but it's a great bonus to be able to have their 'ancestors' lined up alongside them; I recently managed to get an affordable (more or less) deal on ebay for a 1988 daemonette, completing the set of original, 1994 giant claws, Juan Diaz, and the current plastics in my daemonette horde (and being chaos, having all those different designs mingling is a feature, not a bug, they're supposed to be chaotic).

That one ended up pretty cool, with lots of character. :) There is plenty of worth in older Space Marines and other ancient miniatures, even with the scale creep in mind. For instance, old tiny Space Marines could just as well be used for non-enhanced futuristic soldiers in a different game. I also see potential in lengthening the limbs of some old Warhammer Fantasy and 40K figures that are 25mm in size.
@ScooterinAB2 жыл бұрын
I'm actually planning to take a 3d model of a Primaris Marine and scale it down to match classic Marines. The scale creep is just so ridiculous, and I hate Primaris Marines anyways so the sacrilege of it brings me joy. I love metal models. They feel like something important. And they aren't upended the moment they are placed on a texture because they actually have mass. Plastic is nice for converting, but it's making us lazy. Instead of doing everything we could to make unique models, we just take whatever GW is giving us and then complain about how they all look the same or are impossibly difficult to assemble (does a single Battle Sister leg really need to be in three pieces?).

@eBayMiniatureRescues2 жыл бұрын
In terms of painting they are a little more forgiving because of the amount of detail on them. They have defined parts and pieces because they had to be sculpted by hand, so it's easier to tell where to go next. That being said, it can be tough sometimes because that detail is soft and you have to make up for it by painting stuff in to make it look like the thing it's supposed to be. They are great to paint though and I find that I can get a good result faster with metal minis, newer plastic is so clean that if you miss something it's really noticeable.

wow the blasphemy of making a blood angel (it looks like what the OG painter was going for ) into a Ultrasmurf ! lol awesome job . I still have many many of these mini's and their tactical marine counterparts they are some of my fave mini's though I did upgrade most to at least have 3rd ed Marine arms .

lol I know, I almost went with the original Blood Angel thing they had going on, but that blue, yellow, and red color scheme has been calling me for a while! I don't even have an Ultramarine army...

They're basically Ultramarines now anyways. So much blasphemy though. Sanguinius would be rolling in his... oh. :(

Old school Necromunda, you had to kitbash with metal. The way of the Glue-fu had to be strong

hahah, yeah kitbashing metal is an entire hobby all on its own!

Finally I'm glad someone other than myself has issues with the newer Space Marines, they completely lack the charm and style what made them uneique, i'd say now they look even more like Stormtroopers than they do Space Marines.

I do miss the white metal marines.. the weight gave the impression they were really bulky marines..lol

@@eBayMiniatureRescues had the pleasure of seeing them in Melbourne just before we got locked down, was pretty epic! Enjoy man you'll love it 🤘

I mean as long as they have weapons that are used still today I just rebase my old models and they work just fine.
@paulfg52302 жыл бұрын
that depends it they are selling at the original RRP doesn't it
@eBayMiniatureRescues2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, $3 per model wasn't too bad back then

A true shame the got rid of every metal Imperial Guard regiment. Tear stains now fill my 2nd edition codex. eBay has been a friend for finding some metal miniatures, but I have had the most success on reddit miniswap. Good community!

Love the old metal models but im unfortunately allergic to either the metal or something they use in it, the stuff makes me break out in hives when it’s unpainted and unvarnished. Made collecting a little harder when I first started in the hobby but I loved the game too much to let that stand in my way
@eBayMiniatureRescues2 жыл бұрын
Wow, that's super unfortunate man, I'm glad you stuck with it though, the plastic kits are so good these days!

@@eBayMiniatureRescues I mean I did buy metal models ( my first actual model was an old metal squig ) but I had to like glove up dealing with them. I actually have no idea what was causing it but with a nice varnish over the top after everything I was safe. Never met anyone else who has my issue of being literally allergic to classic Warhammer 😅

The older ones will have lead in them. They should really be handled with gloves anyway and washing hands after handling. They changed the formula towards the end of 2nd edition to remove the lead.
