Revolver tip, go to the place that puts a Lyft under your vehicle to change the oil or rotate your tires. As they try to lift it the vehicle will go up about 10 inches before the tires leave the ground! All the guys in the shop get freaked out LOL

Coming from a guy that ran them for years and just threw my last pair in the trash. I bought a full set of them when I did a lift on my YJ 10+ years ago. At first I loved them but started wheeling in the mountains and found that the fronts would unload the moment I set my foot on the brake pedal. So naturally once I started really push the limits of the Jeep I felt a improvement when I returned to a stock length shackle. I did run the rear revolvers for another few rears till I went from 35 to 37 inch tire and swapped in a 8.8. I went with a extended shackle to allow for clearance. I will say that the question of danger is over thought. For a mild build that is set up correctly for revolvers could be a great feature especially in the rear. Personally I would spend the money on a front locker or one piece axle shaft to delete the vac-disconnect.

I agree, regular maintenance is the best preventative maintenance that you can do. I always get told I grease everything too much. I've never had anything break from over greasing.

I’ve had Revolvers since the first came on the market on my Jeep CJ-5. I keep them greased and they have never bound or unloaded on me. One of the best and cheapest mods on my rig. 👍👍👍

If you don't want the "unloading" of the shackle, then run a center limiting strap. Completely flex out the rear and take your measurement. You should be able to get all the flex without the unloading. If you are running soft springs you should add a center traction bar. This combo is a night and day difference.

Just to double check Full compress one side, full extend other side, pumpkin center measurement to the mount I make, and abstrap going up vertically? Unsure whether I can make a center antiwrap bar that will also take up this function, unless i make it hit a stop that will bend said center bar and imagined my limiting strap to a tab on center bar

I'm wanting to use them on my 88 yj eventually after I do my axle swap, have they ever unloaded on the road, going down/up hills, or on side inclines like people say they do. I agree with you on the grease deal, people don't realize how much stress and heat steering and suspension parts are put through. Even when crawling it's still alot of stress

Good firm shocks I think is a key I am learning. Keeps all in controlled. I’ve seen pictures of guys with pins or clamps to lock them when on the freeway at high-speed I have pondered doing something like that. Like all things. It’s a 4x4 there so many ways to do things. Try what you think we’ll work for you just be safe.

Just my opinion on those never had them but I'm choosing not to use them. It looks like they are really good at just adding droop which I'm not saying is a bad thing, but as long as that jeep can stuff a tire in the fender well like that and the body remain that level I don't think it would matter much if that other tire can hit the ground. And like you showed how it wants to pull your drive shaft out not good unless you have one of those long travel shafts. So I can see why people say they are just good for RTI, but then again the way it unbinds the spring maybe that helps you stuff that tire. Either way I can't argue with you for using them you have a really nice flexing jeep, and the only way to tell if something works for you is to run it and you do that. Nice video though, I'm just doing a little research on suspension flex for my samurai.
@davidcraft4909
@davidcraft4909 3 жыл бұрын
A year later I'm going to comment on my comment. from what I see having a tire be able to droop a lot will make it easier for the other side to go up and stuff into the fender well. just my un educated opinion from observation and the application of advanced physics lol. and then you talk about how the revolver shackle allows the axle to twist without twisting the leaf spring. I am sold, hopefully they make revolver shackles for suzuki samurais.

So what happens when your flexed on an uneven trail and the vehicle shifts weight to the droop side? It just collapses and the other side dumps over or what? Seems like you'd be rolling over

What kit did you use for your spring over kit and what size springs are they? Also what size tires are you running? I took my YJ with along with a group of buddies in TJs and LJs to the high desert round up in Barstow, CA this weekend and blew the driver side shackle mount off the frame...did the other side a few years ago. Keep the long story short I have extra tension there after doing a Waggy dana 44 front axle swap and having to use Tacoma step over shackles. I am thinking about swapping my 4.5" rubicon extreme duty kit for a spring over kit with rotators, due to catching way too many rocks on u bolts and other low hanging crap like shock mounts.

Have you had any problems with the front driver side revolver shackle messing up the power steering unit? I see from the video the shackle is very close to the unit. I had a shop recently install the revolvers on my 1989 YJ and they have told me it will cause problems being anchored that close to the steering unit but yours looks exactly like mine. They recommend I don't run them but I would really like to try them out, just don't want to cause a bunch of damage. My revolver shackles were taken off a 1993 YJ where they were only used a few months and working very well (according to the owner, who does a good share of off-roading) and he only removed them to install D60's. My jeep has a 4 inch lift (under axle) and runs 37 inch tires. Thanks for your assistance in advance.

+Todd Rubin I am spring over in the video but in the past I had a 4 " spring under and I could not use the revolvers. It would push on the steering pump. I have met people 3" or 2" or stock springs under axle (sua) no problems. I believe the 4" springs are little to arched. There are write ups about this problem. But there is always that one person that has a 4" lift and they don't hit. Sorry not what you want to here. Best of luck. ~Leander

Most hardcore wheelers on the planet still running leaves are soa yots and xj Cherokee people. You won’t find one person using revolver shackles. A slider box maybe but if the geometry is properly setup with proper shackle length at proper angle there is zero reason to even manufacture these lol. Are they dangerous.. yes I’ve seen a many in the trial reverse themselves under extreme conditions. Find one person who is a skilled wheeler and fabricator who uses one.. it’s a dangerous gimmick for mall crawlers or trail riders marketed to rock crawlers. Greasing then has nothing to do with them flipping inside out mid climb on an off camber hill.
@woodendoors1075
@woodendoors1075 6 жыл бұрын
These shackles are dangerous as fuck on steep hill climbs or descents. When the shackle unfolds your jeep will go end over end unless you have a suck down winch front and rear to keep the shackles from unloading. These are very stupid and dangerous and should be taken off the market.
