I was giving a @scriveiner pen as a gift, one similar to the black one you tested for us in the video - but all chrome! And I was pleasantly surprised and I love it. Low and behold at my next birthday, I got a second Scriveiner from the same friend, the same model (similar to the black pen in the video,) only this one is GREEN ! I've got it filled with a great green ink, and I'm loving it. I too hadn't been familiar with Scriveiner pens and now I've got 2 that I really like. Thank you for sharing these with us.

Going to pen shops this week to try the Diplomat Magnum, the TWISBI 580 Iris, the Brass Kaweco, and now these Scriveiners. I have about 20 pens. The most expensive was about $40 CDN. I have 3 Sheaffer, 6 Jinhao, 6 Lamy knock-offs, a Stonego, a Cobee, a Hero, and a Wordsworth & Black. Most of these have small converters. My Jinhao X159 and 9019 have larger converters, which I think I prefer. There are pros and cons, but it's nice not to have to stop to refill during a long writing session. I have about 10 bottles of ink but have started ordering ink samples and want to try pens in pen shops/shows before deciding on a purchase. I live in rural Canada several hours away from the city. I was able to get samples of 3 inks you showcased in your Dark Academic video.(Loved that video!) Four on your list I still need to source samples of from CDN pen shops. I ordered a sample of Writer's Blood also to compare it to Oxblood. Hoping to find out if I like one over the other or both so much I'll want a bottle of each. I've never been to a pen show. What's the best way to find out about upcoming pen shows? Should I just Google or is there a magazine I should subscribe to?

I own two, the older is six months old. The racing green (fine, Herbin Bleu Des Profondeurs ink) and chrome (medium, Waterman Serenity Blue ink). I was disappointed that you did not mention that much the beautiful inlays in the ferrule (mine has abalone shell in the green and mother of pearl in the chrome.) I still enjoy looking at them as much as the first day I got the pen. The chrome is a fingerprint magnet but I turn that into an advantage by pausing and wiping it with my eyeglass microfiber cloth as I ponder what I am going to write. The racing green gives me memories of a high school friend's MGB Midget that we used to take to the Chesapeake Bay when we skipped school. Sciveiner's support was responsive with my question about inks. Schmitt nibs are awesome and the build quality is good. I am considering the bronze EDC model as a third but am thinking I will get another brand only because I want some diversity in the collection, its still on the consideration list and I know based on the my others, it would be a good pen. No affiliations.
@HemingwayJones10 ай бұрын

I have a Scriveiner pen. I bought it on a whim and it looks gorgeous (silver and gold) and writes sooo smoothly. It also has a snap cap not a screw-on. The only thing I would change is that I bought a medium nib and can't work out where to buy a fine one.

@@HemingwayJones Really? How exciting - you've just made my day! I now have a Scriveiner, 2 Lamy Safaris, 2 Kawecos, a TWSBI Eco, a Metropolitan Pilot and a Hongdian and I have to say, the Hongdian is my current favourite. It is sooo smooth and the Lamys feel quite scratchy in comparison. This whole new world of pens is so enjoyable! I'm also currently obsessed with Writer's Blood Diamine ink; I prefer it to the Oxblood. Another suggestion (if you haven't already done this) if I may? The snippets where I've seen you copying famous people's handwriting absolutely fascinate me. You can get a feel for a person by studying the way they move their pen - just as you can by studying a painter's brushstrokes. A video on the different people's writing styles could be interesting as well as the personal feelings and thoughts that have come to you as you've been emulating their style. I've also learned that, as my writing is tall and narrow, I need a fine or extra fine nib whereas, a friend with broad wide writing always uses medium nibs. I didn't know this when I first started out. Thank you again for taking my suggestion onboard. Your channel is one of my favourites and it's such a treat when you release a new video.

Well I think I need to take back what I said about Scriveiner five months ago. I bought one on Amazon Prime Day and it arrived yesterday. British Racing Green, chrome trim, medium nib. It looks beautiful in the hand and it writes absolutely perfect. Smooth as butter. But there was a fault with it - a spot of damage to the coating on the grip section, looks like it's been in contact with something hot, or maybe a drop of some kind of solvent. I reached out to their customer service, sent them a photo of the damaged part, and in less than 24 hours there's a replacement pen on its way out to me. Lovely pen and top-notch customer service as well - I no longer think this is over-priced.

I really did not want a pen made in China, but I got a Scriveiner silver with gold fountain pen from Amazon. I right away registered it for the extended warranty. I am new to fountain pens and right away I concede I need to work on my "penmanship" since I was appalled at my own sloppy writing--probably due to always typing on a computer. I agree with your assessment of the Schmidt nibs. The nib on this one and only fountain pen I own is super smooth. I will probably order some fine and extra fine nibs from Jet Pens since I have decided I will use it for my planner (need fine lines there). I ordered two boxed of ink one black and one blue (cartridges). Later, I will learn to use the converter. Thanks for this video!!

I like this review and hope it means that the company is getting better and better as they go forward. I had one of their "luxury" pens in October of 2021, via Amazon; sadly, although I liked the pen quite a bit, the nib ( M ) was so scratchy that even after trying to smooth it slightly, it was still giving more feedback than an extra fine. I finally gave it away with some other items, to a thrift shop; but I am truly happy to see that your samples have been good!

Recently discovered your channel and am quite enjoying it. As for the Scriveiners, the black enamel would be my favorite as it does resemble a coupe of Watermans I own, and that's a look I certainly go for. I have a question: I've often wondered to what extent I should judge a pen largely by nib and feed, as essentially, if those don't work well, then it really doesn't matter what the rest of the pen is like. In that context, it would be valuable to learn more about a pen's nib and feed, whether those are generic Schmidt as an example (as in Scriveneir) , or in house feeds and nibs from a MontBlanc, Cartier, or Lamy. I'm looking forward to following you.
@HemingwayJones10 ай бұрын
Hello Perry! Thanks very much! I think you are looking at it the right way. Although I am not completely sure that Cartier nibs and feeds are in house. They are still extraordinary. I think each pen has its own value proposition. If it has a generic nib, then you may not need it unless something else about it inspires you. I did a video about this. “Do You Really Need Another Jowo Nib.” Thanks so much.

NIce review (as usual) on a potentially interesting pen. I'm going to be a bit contrarian on the price. I don't doubt it's a solid, well functioning pen -- like a lot of Chinese pens: HongDian/Lemon, Asvine, Jin Hao, etc that you can get (depending on the model) for just under $30 US cartridge/converter); a few more bucks get you a piston fill and for less than $10 (!), the 9019. I think the extra 20-30$ for this pen is going towards UK branding, marketing costs and profit- kinda like Mercedes Benz in the US (a good car, yes, but a taxi in places outside the US).
@HemingwayJones10 ай бұрын
I think this is a valuable perspective and definitely well said for the conversation. Thank you. The fit and finishing are tight on these and they nailed 3 out of 3 nibs, which I appreciate. I have had my eye on the gold pen for about 6 months….the price is the only reason I didn’t risk it. I wasn’t sure how functional it is. It will never leave the desk…so maybe it won’t scratch up. I was going to use it for writing goal charts at the house. To remind me of abundance, p the difference between wealth and greed. Every time I see this pen I think of immortality, greed, wealth, abundance, and ask myself “what’s the difference?”. I don’t like to overthink it, but it reminds me that it’s ok to have things without being a greedy dick. 😄

They have bad customer service. I’ve emailed them because their pen would no longer screw because the plastic inside basically cracked. It’s been two month no email yet.

That is not a good sign at all. So sorry.

My experience with customer service was the opposite of your experience. Email esponse was quick and they sent out the replacement I needed very quickly.

How do they make a 24 K pen for $65 even if it is gold plated, what ever that means.
@arguchik10 ай бұрын
Well...they spelled "scrivener" incorrectly.
@HemingwayJones10 ай бұрын
That bothers me.

@@HemingwayJones Something about this reminds me of the Ellington Pens kerfuffle from a year or so ago. If the pens work well, and seem worth the price, though...not sure there's much to criticize. Re: the spelling of "scrivener," maybe it's to avoid trademark issues with the Scrivener writing software?
@HemingwayJones10 ай бұрын
Maybe. That sounds reasonable. But why not call it something else? There are so many possibilities!

Good morning! Here's a couple of additional descriptors for the gold Scrivener: ostentatious and pretentious.

No such thing as affordable luxury. Self-defined, luxury is not easily financed, and attainable. I stick to using affordably formal.

Chateau Frontenac offers you 3 nights in a suite for $300 with full perks; that’s affordable luxury. My Cartier Diabolo pen was $200, marked down from $1,000. That’s affordable luxury. There are limitless examples of this. “Formal” means something else entirely.

The golden one fits perfect to a fake Rolex … and: The designer definitely had a window seat in art class.

Not to be overly fussy, but shouldn't it be pronounced Scri-VINE-er - not Scriv'ner - because the name seems to be German (despite the company being British)? 🧐 Best wishes from Vermont 🍁

They look very generic, which isn't that surprising for a white label brand. You can get practically the same pens cheaper or at this price point you can get a TWSBI Eco or a Nahvalur Original Plus.

You have been crowing about Scriveiner pens on several of your videos. Anybody listening got the message a while back. I've had enough of Scriveiner commercials. It's a $50 Chinese pen.
@HemingwayJones10 ай бұрын
I don’t crow. This Channel has always been about my opinions and I quite like these pens. I appreciate you watching, but I don’t understand your anger. These are pens. Deep breath. You are probably surrounded by 50 Chinese products right now. You probably typed this comment on a Chinese product. Take it easy. Go journal something, maybe use a Pelikan.
@McAmeron089III10 ай бұрын
I took your thoughtful and sage advice. Took some deep breaths, journaled a bit with my HERO 565 (my Mac&cheese pen) and some soothing Diamine Garland. It really did help with everything. Thank you. Please forgive me. @@HemingwayJones

Your review was going well until you said that dreaded word....CHINA. What good is a pen that is designed in the UK, but produced in China?? I might just have to bin my British Racing Green ballpoint and rollerball now. I hate Chinese crap. The buyer is always naive to where these 'great' pens actually come from.
