I first started the series with Skyrim, fell in love with the universe. I then tried Oblivion later and found I enjoyed the questlines more overall, though I don't find myself replaying it as often. I finally tried Morrowind and fell in love with it, and actually laughed when I died to a kwama forager 5 minutes into playing because I had no weapon I knew how to use. It sold me on the game and now I play a modded version of Morrowind just as frequently as I do Skyrim. "Otherwise the Nords would have invaded it by now." They actually did, back in the First Era when the Dunmer were still Chimer. They eventually got driven off when the Chimer and Dwemer united against them, but had occupation for 50 years.

And with Archery over 50, you are already doing 100%+ dmg... aside of that, just take throwing weapons (oh... that is nonexistent in Skyrim, ups), and stagger enemies, which already cannot spot you, infinately. Arena is basically a thing of curiosity. If you want to experience the game for the experience, go for it. If you want it for the story, go for it. If you want the gameplay and world, Daggerfall does the same, but better. And there is a Unity port that is incredibly convenient. Morrowind has a lot of the classic RPG systems. Which can be overwhelming if you don't have experience with old school RPGs, but given enough time, you'll learn the systems and mechanics and get into it. And considering even Morrowind is 20 years old now, I'm sure you can find some old PC for a 5er that will run it just fine. The game was released in 2002, so if you find some old Pentium 4, or Athlon or Core 2 based system with some decent card of the time or something akin to modern integrated graphics, it should run the game without issue.

Morrowind truly is a full fledged RPG with RPG mechanics for basically everything, including combat. Skyrim is more of an action RPG where what you see is what you get. No hidden calculations, no dice rolls. The big disconnect is pretty much that you're playing a game in 1st person, but the mechanics are closer to classic isometric RPGs. So you think that you should damage, because your axe hit the guy on the noggin, but the calculations say that you missed. Not a problem in typical top-down RPGs where you and your character are separate, but in 1st person immersion basically demands that you and your character are the same. It's not "your guy" that fulfills the Nerevarine prophecies, it's you who does it.

Yeah... and thats exactly why TES games get more and more watered down, because the handholding is so massively ingrained in the entire younger gamer community, its really not funny anymore. Skyrim is fun and I like a lot of modern features it has. But omg is it just a gutted TES initself. Especially the 'ballance' argument drives me absolutey frickin crazy. Why the hell do you want to ballance a SINGLE player game?! Beth did away with alchemy utensils so you can only work on stations, also they locked the ability to make better potions behind perks instead of your actuall skill level. They did a way with spell creation WHY? Because it was kinda op in older games? ... Therefor we got stealth archers, which seem to be exclusive to any other possible build, because it gets about 20 different dmg multipliers, thats fun, just throw the other perktrees and skills out already. Instead we got questmarker, so the players can play on autopilot and Beth showed their active anti-care for all those old fans, which actually made them survive through Morrowind, when they just didnt invest 2 workdays to write actual directions, so you could switch off questmarkers. No, now everyone is forced to play on autopilot. The reson for most oldschool fans getting seriously angry with Beth since Oblivion is not because the games got more and more "easier". The reason is Beth forces anyone to play with a powdered butt. There are dozens of videos out there which explain very very objectively why the old Bethesda games before Oblivion have just been better overall - even with the clunky and absolutely outdated mechanics they have.

Playing Morrowind isn't a question of wit, it's a question of patience and persistence. You CAN learn Morrowind, you WILL enjoy Morrowind, the question is, do you have the patience to do so? The learning curve is large but I equate it to learning D&D. Your choices for your character and stats ACTUALLY matter. What you SAY and DO actually matters. There ARE consequences to making choices in Morrowind, much more than Skyrim and Oblivion.

I don't think people who started with Skyrim are dumb. It's more that modern games don't trust players to be creative and figure things out in the name of appealing to everyone and generating more income. The balance between creative challenge and streamlined repetition have been tilting towards the latter for a long time now. Morrowind was actually extremely accessible as an RPG for that time if you consider stuff that came out before it like Arena, Daggerfall, or the Wizardry series. Modern games in general condition people into shallow gameplay while dressing it in the mere illusion of choice.

You forgot a very important step: pick a warrior class with low agility and endurance and instantly usain bolt into the marshes to fight creatures with just the dagger from the census office, notice that you're missing all your shots, die to a mudcrab, ragequit, uninstall, make an angry reddit post about how this game sucks because you can't hit anything

Seeing how I saw an entire comment section agree that they all got stuck on the Bleak Falls Barrow puzzle and had to Google search how to get past the door... I would say yes, Skybabies are too dumb for Morrowind.
@HappyBeezerStudios4 ай бұрын
To be fair, it would help if the game gives hints. Not full on tutorials that you get stuck in and have to complete, but unobtrusive hints. Guess how long it took me to learn that you can "inspect" items in your inventory and that way see the symbols on the claw. The game doesn't explain that you can do that. Nothing hints at that function.

Man, I have literally wondered through the entire Arkhntand exactly like that, trying to find the Dwemer puzzlebox. And it was before my neighboorhood even had Internet, so no online FAQs for me. I was only able to solve this issue much later and totally by accident, when my friend borrowed the game and found the puzzlebox with ease, letting me know. He still trolled me about it afterwards, though.
@spatrk6634 Жыл бұрын
yea its cool design you can literally rush into the ruins and get out in a minute with puzzle box without killing anyone. but everyone on their first playthrough get lost in the ruins and try to jump the lava and stuff that is totally there just to fuck with you assuming the puzzle box will be at the end of the dungeon and not in the beggining

As skyrim player i have to say, morrowind is insanely easy and fun. I dont understand how people have problems with it.
@spatrk6634 Жыл бұрын
its when you dont understand the game you have problems with it. most people get into morrowind, choose a class from a pre existing list of classes, in lots of cases is a class with long blade skill. they leave census office with short blade that they have no skill with. and then they attack first rat or mudcrab they see with that short blade and continue to miss until they die. then they proceed to complain about miss mechanic and delete the game

It ain't that I'm to dumb to play morrowind, it's that I don't play s**t games and morrowind is the most s**t game I've ever played. 1.) Morrowind uses dice roll combat which only works on turn based games and not real time games like Morrowind. 2.) There's no compass and map. They tell you where to go to complete your objective, but a lot of good that does, unless you've played the game before, you're not going to know where the f**k Gnisis is, so the whole game just becomes a walking/running simulator. I don't buy the argument "You don't have a map and compass IRL" as a valid argument. When I was a kid, EVERY car has a thing called an "Atlas" in it and a dashboard mounted compass, today it's all in your cellphone. 3.) the graphics are soooooooo f**king bad that I literally can only play it for like 10 minutes at a time before it gives me a headache. People s**t on oblivion for it's NPC's looking bad, well if Oblivion's NPCS are potatoes, Morrowind's NPC's are mashed potatoes with no personalities that just stand around doing nothing all day. 4.) The game's system is easily broken. In all, in my opinion it's a s**t game that was poorly thought out. Maybe if they remastered it and got rid of the dice roll combat, improved the graphics, upgraded the way NPC's work in the game, added in voice acting for every NPC, and put a compass and a map in the game and got rid of the ways to break the games system, then maybe I'd reconsider it.

I had Morrowind for a few months because someone gifted it to me shortly after it came out. They said they thought I'd like it because it was "just like D&D", and eventually I installed it and gave it a shot. I had absolutely zero context for Elder Scrolls anything, so my first reaction is... why the hell are there dark elves on the surface? And why are they like...not all evil? Because of course "just like D&D" I was expecting the Drow, not the Elder Scrolls version of dark elves. Then of course the lack of any and all direction, which again was not at all like D&D which is typically guided by a DM to keep the story on track. I ended up hating the game, and deleted it without getting more than a few hours into it. It wasn't until years later when I was looking for VR games to try, I noticed Skyrim had a VR port. That was the first time I truly played an Elder Scrolls game, and about halfway through it hit me: This is in the same series as Morrowind lol
