For a small business, when costs you have no control of - like skilled labor (wages), space (rent), and utilities (electric, water, sewer) go up the products price must go up too. And commercial rent and utilities are much more expensive (per unit) than their residential equivalents. Now if the politicians could just lower those small business costs.... Oh, and I don't blame workers for rising wages either. Some housing costs have clearly doubled from pre-pandemic prices - workers don't have to work for free either.

You also must love your family, your employees and their families! I have a small business and I only do a small amount of work on purpose. The customers know me personally. I also have to have a full time job to take care of my family!

A lot of responsibility on business owners for sure. I understand the regular job part for benefits etc....

Well said Jay. I always try to by US made, When I can. With that said, it is impossible to do that with certain things. I will NOT put a Speedmaster part in or on my car or transmission.
@BroaderPerformance3 ай бұрын
I appreciate your comments. Your also right sometimes there is just not a US made option these days unfortunately. We just do the best we can.

Most times when I’ve tried to save a few bucks be it a used part or a knock off I am disappointed. Buy once cry once.

as a fellow small business owner, yeah our electric bill rate has gone up a TON along with everything else. We were designing different versions of products to be able to make them with whatever parts we could get, but we are at least still busy even if it is more work to make less profit in the end. I think there is a big difference in small businesses where the designer is the owner so there is an emotion factor to being proud of your design and trying to manufacture it for a fair price so other enthusiasts can afford it. Some of the bigger companies can lose that link if the people doing the different jobs don't share the same dream.

Good points. Many business owners take a lot of pride in their craft. I think some consumers just see business owners as only caring about money.

No they are not! They don't get the bulk discount on materials that the big businesses get! That's why Walmart puts Mom and Pop businesses out of business!

aftermarket copied parts at a cheaper price with poor quality is a huge problem. wasting labor time and $$. keeping parts inventory is a burden when people buy from online suppliers with knockoff parts. the metallurgy is very poor. looks like what you need but will not do the job.

That s why the government has to regulate big corporations because all they care about is the profits for their stockholders. Competition is the only thing that will lower prices.

I dont think giving the government control over how much a business can charge is a good thing. Competition keeps price in order.

Technology is slowly changing the world, just like cars and planes did in the early 1900s and electric cars will be way in 50 years or so.
@russellridge86234 ай бұрын
Electric is crap. Hydrogen is going to wipe them out in future. Toyota and others are well ahead on this technology. Cleaner. Cheaper than all the battery sheite being pushed. Those are all kickback schemes to politicians buddies.
@BroaderPerformance3 ай бұрын
If the battery technology reaches a new level it will be a game changer for electric cars.

She was not talking about small businesses just big corporations, if you researched more you would here she wants to help small businesses and small business are the backbone of this country. He wants more tariffs which will raise prices because the importers have to pay it.

I see your point but I think I have more knowledge of these issues than I may be conveying. I would suggest you look further into these issues yourself. Take your own advice.
