When I was in Costa Rica, I received lots of bites that then formed "wheals". I noticed the Ticos (local Costa Ricans) never had any wheals and wondered if they were not receiving bites or were just not reacting to them. Then one day I observed a mosquito sucking the blood from a Tico and my follow-up observation showed No Wheal! Thus, there are whole populations that receive mosquito bites but no suffer no wheals.

One actually landed on me about a month ago! I was so surprised that I pointed it out to my fiancé...... buuut, then it changed its mind and flew away. I have been bitten before, but not for about a decade. At least after watching this video I know it has to do with odor and that it’s not something wrong with me or my blood lol!

Did you guys do a video on why some people can't "get high" or "drunk"?
@silvereagle900006 жыл бұрын
4:05 I guess I'm in that group, probably most people are. I went fishing in a place with clouds of mosquitoes, and after a few months there was no reason to use DEET. I would get bit all night, but as long as I didn't scratch it for 20 mins, it would simply be gone. Funny enough, those that were with me would use everything under to sun, yet still have bumps for a couple days after.

I'm like mosquito heroin. I never get a single bite, I usually get at least a half dozen or so. The last time I got bit was around the same time mosquitos were spotted with West Nile Virus in my area. Those are great odds. :/

Awesome video! I have a strong hunch that mosquito bites also confer some immune advantage to certain people, like lesser chances of being infected by certain viruses and such, just like intestinal worms modulate your immune system to prevent allergies and asthma. It is not all bad.

I'm only "immune" to local mosquitoes. Missouri (where I live) mosquitoes don't bother me. I'm not sure about their attractedness to me necessarily. I mean, they bite me sometimes- no more than average, I'm sure- and I feel it, but I never develop wheals. If anything, they annoy me more by buzzing in my ears and eyes than they do by biting me- which can be exceptionally painful! I guess some species don't have quite the pain killer I need to ignore them (those species get smushed). Fortunately, Missouri mosquitoes don't carry diseases, with the possible exception of West Nile in some areas. That disease is well controlled by cold winters, though. Having said that, when I went to Florida on vacation, the mosquito bites were like getting stung by a bee. Still not much of a wheal, but terrible general itching. Local mosquitoes don't make me itch at all.

That dreaded sound is caused because of air-pressure displacement. When you have the window(s) down, You have air trying to get into your car and out of your car. Because you have two different pressures acting against each other, you hear that helicopter sound. It's just air-pressure outside interfering with the air-pressure inside. Since the two pressures are different, you hear that sound. Also, just FYI, sound waves are carried best by air. Hence why you hear differently underwater and why they say there's no sound in space. (There is some sound, but not much. Very minimal) SOURCE: Just my hypothesis. I took Physics for 2 years in high school (Honors & AP) + another 3 Years in college.

I've never had a mosquito bite in my life. I used to think they just didn't bite me when I was younger, but I've since caught/felt them doing it enough times that I know they do bite me, I just don't react to it at all. But they might also just bite me less than they bite other people, idk, hard to say.

I think if they studied which chemicals my body puts off, I think I might produce a bit more of the geranyl acetone. My evidence for thinking this is that 1) I rarely have a bad smell (I could wear the same pair of pajamas for over a week before their smell starts turning bad) and 2) I rarely get mosquito bites (depending on how much I'm outside, I might get about a dozen over the whole season, but that's one or two every so often compared to my sister's legs who are covered in wheals, and we grew up with a pond in our yard).

I am immune to mosquito bites... I used to be, but I am not anymore. My uncle told me once when I was a kid, that if I let the mosquitoes bite me it wouldn’t affect me anymore... so I spent a weekend where there were a lot... I let them bite me, all weekend.... to this day, I get no reaction at all from mosquitoes.. or bee stings.. I get such a small reaction from bee stings it’s like a mosquito bite... weird... maybe it in the long run, it’s been mind over matter, but it worked for me!

Paula Semeniuk thats very interesting. Idk if im immune to them because they don’t bite me, but Im utterly immune to poison ivy though. ive heard that you can develop an immunity to things by repeated exposure, but It can also be genetic. My fathers side of the family for example has been immune to poison ivy for aslong as anyone can remember. It grows all over the family property but noone except visitors have ever gotten it. The 1st time anyone got it was when an unnamed family member of mine was sneaking out to the woods for sex and the guy she was with got poison ivy BADLY and she was fine lol
