We (Tradetraks) just attended Collision 2022 as an early-stage startup... and those are all valid thoughts and I feel mostly the same, however one benefit it did have for us over and above the potential for making partnerships, in fine-tuning our 30 second pitch through talking to so many people. It was very good practice to get to talk to so many people and get direct feedback and interaction which is helping out communication skills.

Thank you for the review. This helps me determine whether I really want to take 2 of my vacation days to volunteer for this event.

I attended Collision Conf in Toronto last May. I agree with you. I attended as a Volunteer for 2 days and I get a free ticket for the last one. It was for me a worth experience together with the opportunity to be in the volunteers team and attend the conference. It was a good mix. Anyway I appreciate a lot your content. My kudo!

For some conferences, maybe some value can be found in press coverage?, For early startups the best you can do is focus on your product

Exactly. I didn't touch on press- but it's normally very scarce as well.

Some corporation cover the expense for their employees. It's also a tax write off if you own your company. back in the days we passed out our businesses cards. Good Exposure's.

Two years later, just one video that I needed. This is Charles Kishi, Founder of ZaNiheza. I see your point however any exposure is good for an Early Stage Startup. I received an invitation to attend this one. I am conflicted.

Good stuff here. We got our first investor for Sixpence from Web Summit. He put in a solid $110k too. But I think that was more of a fluke than a reliable result. Thanks for this video! My team and I were also at Collision, showcasing our company! You might have seen us there!

This was great. I definitely don't have the capital to invest in something like this, so I appreciate your review here.

I´ve been to quite a few conferences (working for a VC fund) and I think you have the point of them wrong. I think the answer lies more in what Alfi told you towards the end of the video. Partnerships, collaborations, investments and others are actually the important part ! And many small start ups get to go for free, though invites, big discounts or contests done at hackatons and others.

I take any person who's in any way involved in the VC sphere advice with a huge grain of salt.

I've attended two conferences wherein we were invited for free and I didn't even feel like those events were a good use of my time, let alone money.
