Are the Detroit Red Wings ACTUALLY going to FIRE HC Derek Lalonde?

Lifelong Wings fan here.... I don't know that any of us are really looking for this team to suddenly be a top contender... I think most of us are just looking for them to be competitive. This team lacks fire and needs someone to bring that, considering that the players they have are talented, but not of that nature. I, personally, would like to see them bring in Gallant or Quenneville.

Steve doesn't usually make such decisions until the end of the season. Blashill, for example. I think Kane made a good point, that the team should work on a puck-possession game.

Derek has had success everywhere he has been. Getting rid of him would be a big mistake. If you don't think he has the will and passion to turn things around, you are sadly mistaken. Make no mistake about it, he wants that stanley cup!!!

The blame is Yzerman's. I was hyped about Yzerman's return as GM, but I have been thoroughly unimpressed with this rebuild. He did a good job in the beginning gutting this team of a bad salary cap situation, and building draft capital, but only to dig himself into another salary cap hole with multiple bad contracts. The fact that Lalonde wasn't fired last season and still is the HC is just another stain on Yzerman's resume. I feel bad for Dylan Larkin because his career is being wasted on the failed Yzerplan.

You nailed it, when is Yzerman held accountable/ He's been given a pass on everything. Granted Chris Illitch is ruining the Red Wings & Tigers but the 15 year Yzerplan and his passes because he played here and was GM in Tampa are meaningless now. Broom them all out!!!

Get rid of petry and Chiarot, Rasmussen,Copp, Tarasenko, Fischer and bring in the young guys. Sink or swim. Cant be any worse than what they are now. At least with younger guys they’ll have fire and legs to move

It’s not the roster or the wins/losses… The team plays with zero passion . The system employed is not working-defensively we have been awful for the three years he has been the coach. I believe he has lost the locker room-which means he needs to go

The Red Wings currently are not very exciting to watch. They appear somewhat timid in shooting the puck and get mixed up on defense. This comment comes from someone who never played organized hockey in his life but has been a dedicated fan since the early 60's and a season ticket holder at the Red Barn and Joe Louis. I like the character of the players and how they never seem to make excuses. I am just confused why they haven't yet been able to step it up from the end of last year.

They need to make a move now before Boston snatches him up! Quenneville would be my choice since he has gone all the way and won the Stanley Cup with Chicago. He is no nonsense and has coached Kane and Debrincat together. I think he has what it takes to get these guys believing again.

Derek Lalonde has failed coming into his 3rd year. I think he will be let go by January if there is no turnaround.

steve wont be letting anyone go in January . hell be selling off the team come trade deadline if they are still strugling and outside of any PO spot. steve woild have fired Lalonde already if he were going to. hell finish out the season but will not be returning if they miss POs by a large margin

He has to go..... his system is great for a team trying to rebuild from the foundation but for a team that's looking to take the next step it doesn't work. Too docile in their own end,too picky in the O-Zone. The team also looks sloppy as all hell and unprepared at times Either Lalonde needs to rethink his strategy or he needs to be canned. NO COACH Q at any rate.

Resigning Kane was a mistake. He's not a 200 foot player. Petry was a bad signing. I'm not impressed with DeBrincat either. Yeah he can score but another weak defender. Time to start trading off some players, and bringing up some young guys. I thought that was the plan. Draft talent and build the team with them.
