Are the Disney Lorcana D23 Promos a Problem!? (Already $2000+ !?)

Considering Ryan Miller addressed the community last night saying "We'll never do a promo card or collection that you can't also get out of the regular product". Promo cards will literally never be an issue for players of this TCG. It will be an issue for collectors though

I wish all card games would do this. One Piece and Digimon are horrible at that. Mot everyone is fortunate enough to go events or participate in, let alone win tournaments.

Limited promos that you exclusively have to go to an expensive theme park to get,will be a smart buy in the beginning. Even if disney crashes,then it might go up in value.

If this was any other game game that would be a perfectly adequate number of the promotional item. 2500 is a pretty normal sized print run for a board game, something that you're limiting to a single weekend event doesn't need to be anywhere near that large of a run. The only reason this is an issue is that it's got Disney stamped on it. The 2019 Transformers convention packs are basically a non-issue. They were also made available on Hasbro Pulse, and they printed so many that until recently I'm pretty sure you could STILL buy them. Heck, you still CAN buy the convention edition of the Blaster vs Soundwave set.

So you may not know this but all D23 items are scalper central. Scalpers this year were told 1 item per person so they just bought tickets to bring more friends. The real question is how many are actually selling at the 2000 mark. These people spent 50 bucks on the set. They are out to make quick cash. These won't hold value if people don't actually buy them. An item is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. People forget that lol. People that think these will hold value make me laugh cuz we already had a disney card game in the parks and those cards are not holding value and that game was discontinued. So eventually when this game is gone and it will die as disney doesn't do what doesn't make them money. Full collections of the game will be worth more than this set of promo cards no one will remember. You may dupe some disney die hards but tcg players won't be buying it.

the problem is that expo stamp will significantly hurt the value of anything without it in 10-20 years. Plus it's Disney so scalping is already going to be 100 times worse that any other TCG.

The real problem is how many seem to have been damaged in shipping. A lot of the collectors I’ve seen that bought them from ebay are very unhappy with the condition they arrived in because the people reselling them were not collectors and had no idea how to protect them. Which means the price for a good condition version of these promos will skyrocket even more.

Yes definitely. I received my set today and the seller just put one layer of bubblewrap around it and threw it into a parcel with a d23 bag around it. Picking it up I could already hear how it just flys around in the package lol. First negative feedback I ever given in my 15 years of ebay....

Yep I had this problem, first set I got showed up destroyed due to poor packaging for shipment(even though I told them to package in a box)Had to get refund. Purchased a second time and this person knew how to do it. Showed up perfect.

They say that this cards will be available in the first chapter but they never said how difficult is going to be to get them

All of those cards will be in the set though. The only difference is those won't say d23. They will look the same

I don’t think it’s a problem. *anything* that premiers at D23 is going to have the D23 tax. These are not actual game products. They are limited edition cards with a special foil and that “D23” stamp on them. That stamp, on its own, will exponentially increase a products price.

Great start for lorcana just by addressing the fanbase, my card game yugioh is bad for that, I think we were supposed to get a ban list a couple months ago but I forget, I stopped playing yugioh and started selling my yugioh stuff and started playing magic, but I honestly can't wait for lorcana because my daughter wants these cards so when they come out me and her are gonna learn the game together because she wants to play it, and eventually if they ever have lorcana locals we will go together ❤️ thank you Disney for attracting my daughter into a great, harmless hobby like collecting cards and some of you are probably thinking that she will get the cards and not care about them but no, my daughter loves Disney princesses so much, Disney has been making some very smart choices lately

Yes honestly. If they are exclusive. In my opinion every tcg that is guilty of the following needs a fix.: promos should not be unique cards. Alt art, special printing, signed, numbered. All fine. But unique playable cards (especially good ones for competitive play) should never be locked behind exclusivity. It's just a personal opinion of mine but it's what I beleive. It's 100x worse with lorcana because it's disney. And disney fans (like the collectable fans) will destroy game balance and 2ndary market economy for really rare promos and half of them won't even play the game it's just exclusive disney content for them. So yes bad bad bad. If these had been basic cards that were stamped d23 but available in futuree releases fine.

I was so sad - I've gone to D23 Expo every single year save the first year and this was the year I chose to skip. I figured 'eh, it's fine. Disney Infinity is gone so I've not really had any super exciting things I wanted to get.' And then they announced Lorcana right after the last of the tickets sold out. Like seriously? XD Still looking forward to the game but man am I kicking myself.

Before I watch the video I'm just gonna answer the "enticing title", no. It is not a problem. Fear of missing out is always a thing in all card games. I guarantee that if they've learned from other GOOD card games, they will reprint these cards and people will have them for collecting and playing

$2000 is cheap, given the scarcity. Supply shocks hasn’t even hit yet. If you want one, better buy before it hits $20,000.

It's artificial scarcity. This is manipulated value, they aren't worth that. Wait and see if the game is even fun first. It's not surprising though, this is exactly why d wanted in on the ccg market.

This is why you should NEVER invest in anything Disney these days. Scalper's paradise! Imo, while nothing new in the world of tabletop gaming, The Mouse House will likely exploit this. GOOD card games reprint cards and keep a banlist up to date, Disney's Lorcana was always sus. The Brave Little Tailor's effects is no different than other cards that are quite simply, easier to acquire like Sonic Chick in YGO.

I don't know why they make promo first instead of giving a rule for the card game. Like yeah the promo looks cool but you need to wait a hold years to play the game. I kind worry if the game was't target for casual people and more of Diehard Disney fans who collect all Disney merchandise if it's the case yeah i don't give a hope this game will life long enough and just a overhyped.
